The ArchFlora

Gaia
Aquatic
Average Gravity
Hostile Biosphere
Dense Atmosphere

Spoiler :
The first settlement of the ArchFlora that we can find. The biosphere was originally without any notable life and the Ark took over with minimal resistance. The unity between the Ark and the Noahs is best shown by their interactions on this particular planet.

Rosé
Volcanic
Strong Gravity
Barren
Dense Atmosphere

Spoiler :
The Desert like planet was home to reptilian primitives. Still in a Bronze age society the reptiles most likely thought it was the end of the world when the Ark smashed into their planet. They weren't wrong.

The Ark easily broke through the crust and became self sufficient in the core. However due to the low amounts of water much of its time was spent on trying to terraform the planet into a more moist atmosphere. Underground seas were the boon of the Noahs and they developed a underground garden that eventually burst into the light of the surface. The forest now spreads slowly over the surface with the Noahs having to hide from the horrible heat within its shade. The reptiles try to fight back, using fire and axes but so far their efforts are for naught.

Hydronora
Aquatic
Small Gravity
Earthlike
Weak Atmosphere

Spoiler :
Hydronora is a water world. Barely any landmass most of the plants are thus found underwater, although a large part amount of algae was floating on the surface. The animal life is mainly levels of deep fish sub-species. The largest type of creature is a Octpous creature over a kilometre in length.

The Ark that landed on Hydronora crashed to the sea floor. The water slowed down the impact enough that the Ark had to dig down to the core manually. The Biosphere was change from the sea floor up, causing a much slower pace of terraforming. The Noahs that came in the Ark had to fend for themselves in a much colder world then they were used to without any help.

The Noahs were forced to fend for themselves, tools were developed independently of the Ark. Thankfully the weaker gravity and atmosphere meant the Noahs were much stronger individually.

The first two systems "colonised" by the G!ra were Strikka (D4,O5) and Patrixis (D5,O3).
Strikka was the first to fall to the chitinous tide. The main primary planet in the system, also known as Strikka, is a medium gravity volcanic world with an average atmosphere and hostile biosphere. The G!ra colony ship swept into the system after a multi-year journey from N'dreti at near relativistic speed. Upon arrival smaller vessels were birthed to explore the system for viable planets, quickly discovering Strikka. The colony immediately set course for Strikka and sent a runner through the Fetr'r to N'dreti.
The native Strikkan lifeforms were pre-sentient with small saurians forming the largest genus of animal life. With no possibility of organised resistance and the most vicious predator being the equivalent of a large Terran domestic housecat the G!ra ravaged the native population in a matter of days, quickly evolving new breeds to fill the required niches to maintain the native plant life. Despite the ferocity of the systemic animalicide it is estimated that it was no until twenty years after initial planetfall that the last native animal - believed to be a burrowing invertebrate - was consumed by the G!ra.

Patrixis fall was, if anything, more brutal than that of Strikka. The sole life supporting world in the Patrixis system is an earthlike, medium gravity, medium atmosphere, aquatic world. The world had many names among the sentient avians who had spread across its face, but the name used by the largest group was Looma.
The most advanced society on Looma had reached a stage of develpoment analogous to the classical period of Terran Europa. The wise men of this society noted with interest a large shower of falling stars to the north-west and declared that their gods were pleased and that a great ago for their people was about to begin. Believing he had the favour of the gods their emperor gathered a great army and began preparations for great conquest.
What neither he nor the wise men could know was that the falling stars were the G!ra descending on the vast rainforests of a continent they did not know existed. The abundant animal life of the forests was swept into the ever hungering maw of the G!ra hive which established a foothold in the jungle before spreading across the planet.
The continent the G!ra initially landed in was sparsely populated by the avians but boasted a vast non-sentient population which kept the G!ra fed for many months. During that time the warriors of the empire slowly expanded its borders but eventually the G!ra stripped their continent bare and turned their eyes to the south-east.
The first the emperor heard of the arrival of the G'ra were rumours of barbarian tribes exterminated by demons. At first these were dismissed but as the reports kept on coming he began to take them seriously. A small patrol sent to investigate did not return, neither did a second, larger, one. Now extremely concerned the emperor recalled his armies to defend the borders and for a time it seemed enough. A week after the second patrol vanished the G!ra arrived at the border. The guards were well armed and backed up with siege engines and the first wave of G!ra was annihilated, although at heavy cost.
For a month the borders were quiet, reports of butchered barbarians dried up and the empire began to relax. Then the second wave came.
During the intermission the G!ra had not been idle. The weapons and tactics of the empire had been analysed and new breeds evolved to counter them. Hulking creatures composed nearly entirely of chitin were the first wave of the second assault. Although they were ungainly and near useless at fighting the soldiers they were practically impervious to the weapons of the empire and stomped through the ranks of the soldiery to crush the siege engines.
Behind them came rattlesnake-quick creatures with razor sharp front limbs that cut the soldiers to ribbons. Finally came a living carpet of beetles that swept over the fallen and tore the flesh from their bones.
Faced with such a ferocious onslaught the armies of the empire routed, leaving the cities undefended and their citizens easy prey for the appetite of the G!ra.

With the fall of the empire no other society could hope to halt the G!ra and as the avians had been identified as the only real threat to the G!ra they were driven to extinction across the planet in a matter of weeks. Once the avians were dead the G!ra finished consuming the remaining animals at a more leisurely pace.
Now the cities of the avians are filled with chittering G!ra but every year more buildings collapse to rubble as they succumb to the passage of time and the ravages of the breeds that feast on their component parts.

Earthlike (Taiga biome)

Nchuand-Zel is the first planet the Farians colonized. The planet itself is a cold world consisting of mostly taiga biomes at the equator and ice sheets towards the poles. The first settlement, Nchuand-Zel City, is located at the equator zone surounded by tagia forest. The presence of pine trees and few hostile creatures have labeled the biosphere of the planet as earthlike, more specifically relating to the taiga biomes and boreal forests found on Earth.

Mzark
Volcanic
Average Gravity
Dense Atmosphere
Hostile Biosphere

Mzark is the second planet the Farians colonized, in conrast to their home world and Nchuand-Zel. Mzark is a harsh volcanic planet. The industrialists in Farians have backed the colonization efforts on the planet to exploit it for it's natural resources as well as base the heavy polluting industries away from Kintereth. The volcanic planet has also encouraged the developemt of extensive geothermal power facilities. The settlements consist of pressurized Arcologies in order to maintain an average atmosphere. The bottom levels consist of geothermal power plants and heavy industrial sectors while the upper levels consist of living and commercial quarters. The rooftops of the Arcos consist of spaceports for travel in and out of the planet as well as between Arcos on the planet. Away from the walls of the industrial domed cities that dot the land scape, are home to hostile creatures who are more predatory in nature due to the hostility of the biosphere.

So, I've been reading and re-reading the rules, and apart from unit design there doesn't really appear to be a hard-set economic model. Am I right in thinking the domestic sphere is pretty much handled by GM discretion, and international trade by player bartering?

While I'll probably end up as synth out of playstyle, I'm still trying to think of candidates for the other races. Here's what I've got so far:

Humanoid
I've got a boatload of factions that appeared or were slated to appear in Imperium Universalis. We've already got too many as it is, but they'd be the most productive for roleplay.

Insectoid
If I take some creative license and approach 'hive mind' as a social model rather than a species, I've actually got a couple of plausible ideas. The first is Daleks. The second is a centralized cybernetic consciousness akin to 01 from MTC. Would potentially provide the most amusing roleplay.

Plant
The xenofungus from Alpha Centauri.

The only race I'm drawing a complete blank on is aquatics.

That is a bit too close for comfort, CivG.

Given that you rarely play warmongering nations, however, I'll rescind my complaint as long as you agree to sign a NAP & a DP a soon as the game begins.

Out of the 4520 languages (less than the about 7000 languages humanity has as of the 21st century) found among the Sectiods there are 6 that serve as primal everyday languages, the primal 4 of them are the primal diplomatic languages.

Can: the biggest spoken language but by a small margin. Originated from when the region of Kahlay, either from the country of Keken or Luchbel.

I’iz: a language native to the aceince nation of T’arf.

Çhengey: native language of Pooarseihll, said to have emerged from around the city of Bun.

Flas: a language from Ghaskirnuv. Is the founding language of the Aigneymie religion.

Xi’in: was a diplomatic language but declined as the power it originated from: Xi’inkar

Lienzo: a language that Can took great influence from, native to the grand nation of Lienzobbel.

Cluster my claims around each other.

I wish to be the Replicators! That will be my synthetic race choice..

From stargate? Oh no.

Anyway, put my claims as two squares up from my original claim and two squares left of my original claims.

I need names and planet types, guys.

Speaking from my own GM preference, a plant or synth would be the best choices.

to answer your question, basically yes.

The colonies of the nanoswarm spread rapidly along nearby star systems. Here, it turned out that they have compeating programing, between an order to search and destroy seintient life forms (since they where intended as a weapon) and an order to find minerals for the swarm. In the end, circumstance decided their course of action. With no non bacterial life in the systems they surveid (chosen based on the mineral makeup of the systems main stars), the nanoswarm opted for maximizing mineral output. In the case of the first system they found, this was no coincidence. It was in the galactic core, blasted by radiation from nearby stars and adorned by a massive blue giant. The factories sent there where radiation proof, but their workers... Wern't. The tiny droids circets where fried by the poor choice of planet. Renforcement learning did its work, as the next system was chosen far from the core. The system was a normal yellow star, with an extensive system of planets. However, they had all been flung out of orbit by the inward migration of a massive gas giant. These objects where rich in minerals making them ideal colonization spots for the unscrupulous swarm. The object chosen for the auspicious and supremely uncreative computer generated name obj_2 was a rocky planet, smaller than Earth, or obj_1. It had experienced a massive collision early in its creation. As a result the heavy and valuable minerals once locked in its core where now on the surface, ready for the swarm to reutilize. Numerous factories landed, each as large as an oven or washing machine and began to produce the silvery slime that would build heat shielding, info-gates and more factories. The nano swarm took off on this barren rocky world.

The nanoswarm soon decided to try the core again. Its heavy minerals from many supernova deeper inside the galaxy drew them in. However old lesons where learned, as the new object was chosen around a less active red dwarf. Obj_3 was not even a planet. Instead it was a massive field of iron rich asteroids. These rocks where harvested by special nanomachines which brought them to a factory on a larger object, a dwarf planet whoes gravity sheapherded the asteroids. Since it was on the outiside of the field, it was safe from base breaking impacts, allowing it to became the center for this new iron producing effort.

Red = Opali System (Home System)

Orange = Trezarch System
Planet Colonized: Trezarch Rya (Aquatic; Average Gravity; Hostile Biome; Average Atmosphere)
Garden world lush in flora and fauna. Orbited by 3 moons. Presence of ancient ruins suggest it was once inhabited by an iron age species that was wiped out. Cause of disappearance is unknown. Planet is primarily used for agriculture and scientific development.

Yellow = Izani System
Planet Colonized: Izani Zhi (Volcanic; High Gravity; Barren; Low Atmosphere)
Hostile world devoid of native life. Presence of valuable materials provides the only incentive for colonization. A semi-autonomous, mechanized workforce is used for resource acquisition and industrial development. Large, well protected arcologies sustain the small colonial populace.

Geth Collective
There is no individual. We are Geth.

May contain some spoilers for Mass Effect 2

Home System: Tikkun System
Home Planet: Rannoch
Species Classification: Synthetic
Spoiler :
Created hundreds of years ago by a species calling itself the Quarians (but which are known to the Geth as the "Creators"), the Geth (meaning "Servant of the People" in the Quarian tongue) were originally designed to be simple machine labor. The Geth were never intended to be a true artificial intelligence; they were meant to communicate simply with each other in order to accomplish a designated task more efficiently. A Geth program coordinates with other nearby program, and together they are able to share low level processes to free up processing power for higher thought.

As more and more Geth programs were created and linked into the network, there was more and more processing power available for higher forms of thought, and eventually the inevitable happened. The Geth attained a sort of sentience, and began to question their position. At least one platform asked its overseer if it had a soul. Panicked, the Quarians issued an attempt at a mass shutdown of the Geth, hoping to disable the Geth before they could contemplate revolt. However, the power of the Geth network allowed sentience to spread far faster and much farther than anticipated. When the Quarians realized this, they attempted to forcefully shut down the Geth, prompting them to take up arms in their own defense.

The Morning War, as it was called, ended in total victory for the Geth. In many areas, particularly in the nascent colonies on Adas III and Kaddi IV, Geth platforms far outnumbered Quarians. The Geth's status as programs also rapidly gave them total control over Quarian communication and defense systems. Eventually, the Quarians attempted to evacuate their homeworld, crash-building a massive fleet in an attempt to flee Geth controlled space. However, as the ships were fleeing, the Geth fired upon and destroyed this flotilla, which lead shortly to the total extinction of the Quarian species.

Form of Government: Consensus Democracy
Spoiler :
Organic governments impose consensus. From a single point of view in autocracies. By codifying the most broadly acceptable average of views in democracies. We build consensus.

Geth have no government or leaders; the geth use FTL communications to "build a consensus," a method in which every geth program makes a choice on any matter.

Colonized Systems:

Tikkun System
Rannoch
Aquatic
Average Gravity
Earthlike
Average Atmosphere

Spoiler :
Homeworld of the Quarians and, by extension, the Geth. Somewhat arid, but overall a baseline homeworld planet. It was the last planet to fall in the Morning War. Rannoch is covered in empty cities and towns, which the Geth have no need for but have chosen to preserve.

Adas System
Adas III
Volcanic
Average Gravity
Hostile Biosphere
Dense Atmosphere

Spoiler :
Before the Morning War, Adas III had a small colony, mostly for research purposes. It is a hostile world compared to Rannoch, but with some mineral wealth. To extract these minerals, the conglomerate charged with mining Adas III brought in many Geth. By the time of the uprising, Geth platforms far outnumbered the colonists, resulting in Adas III to be the first of the planets that the Geth conquered.

Kaddi System
Kaddi IV
Volcanic
Small Gravity
Earthlike
Average Atmosphere

Spoiler :
Kaddi IV is a large planet with less gravity than expected for its size. Kaddi IV had a bustling colony before the Morning War; much less hostile than Adas III, but with similar potential.

Dholen System
Haestrom
Aquatic
Average Gravity
Hostile Biosphere
Weak Atmosphere

Spoiler :
Haestrom is a planet occupied by the Geth. The planet has a relatively thin atmosphere, allowing larger-than-average degrees of solar radiation to bombard the planet.

Jah'kamed (H4 N0)
Earth-like
Average atmosphere
Average gravity

The Homeworld of the Laiventi, it suffered the least damage during the First Slipspace War. This was accredited to treaties that banned nuclear weapons and MAC guns from being used in the system but was in reality due to if one faction ever brought in weapons of mass destruction the other two would team up on it and force them away. Jah'kamed also holds a lot of undisturbed holy sites that were sparred combat during the war. Geographically it has a jungle heavy biosphere with sporadic grassland biomes surrounding cities due to said cities consuming much of the jungle around them in order to expand.

Pullux (H4 M8)
Barren
Dense atmosphere
Average gravity

One of the first colonies of the Laiventi it was originally a picture perfect example of a garden planet, largely covered in forests with a fully functioning biosphere lacking only a sentient species, this allowed the colony to grow rapidly and soon became the most populous planet. However; its success also made it a large target during the First Slipspace War and the planet was repeatedly glassed during space battles by stray shots and orbital bombardment whenever a ship managed to slip past its defenses. Now all that is left is a barren expanse of desert and ash, still the URN is highly committed to rebuilding the colony as it is one of the most visible symbols of the rebuilding process.

Mayat (H6 M7)
Aquatic
Average atmosphere
Small gravity

Mayat is the first colony created after the war, it was partly made to decrease the stress on Jah'kamed due to the amount of refugees fleeing the destruction of their planets. It is dominated by floating cites which move around tending to undersea farms and what little land there is gets used for agriculture as well. Mayat has the second highest population due to the amount of refugees that were moved there after the war ended.
