IOT Organisational and Discussion Thread

Ok, I've decided that I too am leaving IOT. I have my reasons, but mostly, I can't see any reason to continue.
Recently I've been noticing a trend in games that people no longer care about diplomacy or actual playing - just controlling as much ad-hoc territory on Earth (or space, or what have you) as possible. A lot of IOT nations at the moment exist of things beyond the ridiculous, and I'm not naming any examples.
So yeah. Good luck with your merger debate guys. I won't be around to see the effects.

This makes me think I should play some IOTs again to inform myself, but this is just horrifying enough to make me swing against a merger.

Tis' a shame. I was going to enjoy the Egyptian Eyalet. Take care.

I'm up for the merger if it brings in new players. I can launch a game right now but I dont want to if I get 10 players max.

Or you can start a game with seventeen players and by turn three already suffer from having eight of those formed countries either not sending in orders or leaving the game. You know something has gone wrong when the majority of IOT Chatters (and I say IOT Chatters and not IOTers for a reason) don't actually play IOT anymore, contribute to IOT anymore, or can be ass'd to even pretend they're trying to get in orders on time anymore.

IOT is a sad case of needing both new players and a purge of the existing base that isn't actually even the base anymore.

All things considered, I can remove about 80% of the countries that didn't get in orders or simply left the game and nothing would have been lost in terms of world setting or quality. It is that 20% I loathe to lose and not get in orders, such as Civ'ed. The only consolation is that all of the players that do get in orders, even the ones that skirt the deadline, are ones I genuinely enjoy having in the game and that 20% I also enjoy and would miss.

On that note, sorry that I had to drop but the haste in the update locks does not fit my schedule. The only time I can seriously look at Cfc for this kinda stuff and not just writing replies such as this one is pretty much limited to weekends. I've only used my computer for over an hour about twice in the past two weeks. Even now, I'm using my phone.

When I complete my dual entitlement psychology course in a few months I should have a lot more free time but as it stands the only two things I'm going to invest in on CFc is my IOT and I&B provided it even starts.

I would join more games but friggin college. I'm not even on chat as much as I used to be.

I completely agree with you on that. And the biggest fear of launching an IOT now is the large dropouts and nonresponds after so much work put into it. I must say Im also to blame for that, I dont always continue playing an IOT I join. Maybe this is just a winter and spring is around the corner, or a purge and influx is needed.

It will start, but the pace will be quite casual due to everyone including myself being more busy.

For those interested, I'm running two lighthearted games right now. The first one, "SilliNES2", is a world building game currently focused on short snippets and world building events. The second one, "The Fortress", is a settlement building game in an cursed region of the Mountains. The second one will pick it's founding region in only 6 hours! Please join. :)

Reporting that it seems my prediction my time will be eaten away by other duties shall be true. Boom West was a success despite its 15 or so attendees, and we're planning a medium-sized Sonic convention for next year, Sonic Revolution.

As can be expected I will probably be devoting more of my non-classwork time to this event, both for PR and as a staff member... I will also be spending more time with PR for smaller events as that's more or less become my role within the community.

Ergo, it is safe to presume that my IOT duties shall cease within the coming year.

Sad to see you gone, Tani.

If anyone is looking for a historical IOT, look at Rise and Fall of Empires. The link is in my sig. Join and prove that IOT is not dead.

Totally forgot we use this thread to advertise games.

Anyway, hey, RIOT. Three updates a week. Somewhat quick pace (relatively speaking). Egypt!
