Description: The Mongol Empire, formed by Temujin (Genghis) Borjigin, was a short-lived affair, collapsing after little over a hundred years of rampaging across the world. Forced into oppression once again by the Chin, it took a man with the spirit of Genghis himself to once again unite the peoples of Mongolia. Sukhy Naranbataar (Naranbataar translates to 'Sun Hero'*) of the Borjigin or Blue Wolves, who claimed descent from Genghis himself through his youngest son Tolui and Tolui's second son Kublai, accomplished the task in 1827. Since then, he has been preparing his people to once again become the world leaders... in becoming the world.
Mongol government remains in the form of a khanate. One gurkhan rules over the people, with an inner council of war leaders to support him (or rarely, her). It is their task to make the laws of the land. While leadership is hereditary, the named heir may not in fact rule, and in reality it is the strongest claimant with the most military support who ultimately resides in the palace at New Karakorum.
The Mongol people, for the most part, also remain nomadic. The one major city, New Karakorum (on the site of the old city built by Ogedai Khan), is populated by around fifty thousand people. The most well-known feature of the city is a tree cast from solid silver, excavated from the ruins of the old city and placed in its proper location in the entrance hall of the palace in the new city.
*Naranbataar is the personal name. Sukhy refers to the name of the father - in this case,
Sukh (axe).
