The term "Mitteleuropa" (Central Europe) was coined by the Germans in the 19th century and was supposed to denote Germany as well as areas over which the German Empire wanted to extend its sphere of influence (including Congress Poland, Ukraine, Baltic states and other areas which Germany wanted to use as a buffer zone separating it from Russia), as well as territories into which it planned to expand. 19th century Germans used this concept to portray themselves in opposition to both "the West" (France, Britain, etc.) and "the East" (Russia). Later during the 20th century the concept played an important role in German plans of expansion during WW1. But does Central Europe exist, if so then what characterizes it, where is it located, and is modern Germany still Central European?

Germany is whatever allows me to stick Poland in Eastern Europe.

You missed that option.

Wow, what an intriguing question, one that can only be answered through a nauseating display of charts, maps, and graphs of demographic info from the late 1800s.

So Poland is no longer in North Africa? Hmmm... Maybe this is why today was so snowy and frosty.

Please, bring it back to North Africa - I don't like Winter.

And also don't get too much Off-Topic. This thread is about Germany.

Germany can do some Drang nach Süden for Lebensraum in North Africa too, if Europe is too cold.

Could this be a troll thread? Or is it just a necro of a beat to death discussion from the past?

This is a zombie troll thread, reborn from the 19th century, brought to you by the 19th century!

Oh, I get it.

I'd say Central Europe. Everything east of Germany is Eastern Europe and everything west is Western Europe, of course.

Nanana :nono:, that's wrong.
Germany is in the west of Poland.
Poland is in Northern Africa.
Therefore Germany is in Western Africa.

That would mean that Russia is Saudi Arabia.

And they say there's no truth in television.

Who cares ?

That would mean that Russia is Saudi Arabia.

And they say there's no truth in television.

Homophobia, autocracy and oil. And a bad influence on the balkans.
Sounds about right.

Well, it might appear that Domen is interested into the exact location of Germany, for reasons of his own.

I'll reply with a tangent that actually Crimea belongs to Bulgaria, because it's all lost at this point and maybe I might have fun while I'm at it.
