Hunting ought to remain apart of our culture so that we do not forget how to do it.
I assume you mean a part, not apart. Hunting isn't quite seperate from our culture yet, not as a whole anyway.
Morally OK, straight from the word of God.
The bible does say that God said it is ok to eat meat, but it does not say it there.
In Genesis 1 God only gives Man (and other animals) permission to eat plants. Permission to eat meat is given later, to Noah and his family after leaving the ark, accompanied by restrictions on eating the blood and on causing the animal unnecessary suffering.
The bible does not specifically say that no one ate meat before the flood (in fact Abel's sacrifice may seem to imply that they did), but the Talmud and Rabbinic tradition say it was forbidden. Rashi explicitly declared "God did not permit Adam and his wife to kill a creature to eat its flesh. Only every green herb were they to all eat together." The most the word "dominion" entails is the right to use animals like slave labor, but I know of no form of (legal) slavery that ever allowed the master to slay an innocent slave (capital punishment was of course fine). Slaves still have a right to life.
