That's venison, not vermin. Works with either one though :)
Deer might be delicious, but they're still vermin that need to be destroyed.

Hunting for sport is not good. It is unnecessary bloodlust. But hunting can be necessary for food, or to protect the environment and agricultural lands.

That is a completely vacuous statement. What exactly do you mean by that? Live and let the hunters shoot? Ban hunting and let animal populations go wild? What?
You could argue the human population has 'gone wild'.
And I don't think it's a humans place to decide wether another species population levels are correct or not. I'm just not arrogant enough to assume that because I'm of a higher intellegence that gives me the right to dictate the world to other species.
I wouldn't bad hunting for food. I just discourage it. I would ban hunting for sport.

Deer are vermin; they must be destroyed.
I disagree.

.

So....you're not arrogant enough to dictate to those who are less intelligent than you, but you're arrogant enough to tell other humans what to do? How does that work?

Hunting, when done correctly, is part of essential wildlife management and conservation. We need to rebalance the ecosystem our modern civilization has unbalanced.

Of course, everything, including hunting, can be done wrongly. But it is not necessarily "evil", no.

EDIT: While I support not wasting what has been killed, "food" aspect is not really determining here.

Man look at all you hippy environmentalists encouraging a rebalance of the ecosystem! Girly men the lot of you :p

I haven't read all, but...people who have voted "I approve of hunting for food" and especially "I DO NOT approve of hunting for sport"(or anyone else for that matter), what do you think about "catch and release". You now, catching fish with a fishing pole, weigh it and then throw it out in the river again?
Personally, I don't like it. Fishing for sport, is not something I like. Either you catch the fish and eat it, or you don't catch the fish at all. Is there a risk of overfishing, then don't fish.

Did I mention my preferred way of doing this is catching elk barehanded, breaking its neck, ripping out liver with my teeth and eating it raw?

I think this is incredibly stupid. This has no effect whatsoever besides needlessly tormenting the fish.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think talking to an animal doesn't necessarily result in something productive.

How is voicing your opinion 'telling other humans what to do?'

Obviously you don't believe in democracy.

Eitehr that or you didn't really think it through before you posted.

But there are some sick puppies who run so called hunting lodges, the deer are so tame that you can walk or drive right up to them.

Most hunting lodges are nothing more than a membership club that owns a lot of land so you don't have to worry about random trigger happy hunters crowding you.

I think that allowing hunting is a good idea, because it encourages people to maintain near-wild areas for their sporting. Some of the best environmentalists are hunters, since they're protecting their sport.

As well, if you're eating your food, then it's quite okay. A wild area can be harvested sustainably if enough people care to keep it sustainable.
