ISIS's Plan for World Domination: Use Victoria II

If only there was some kind of strong state presence in Iraq to fend off Islamic terrorism.

Sorry but i have to ask which of the two following statements seems more likely to be true...:

1) An islamic fundamentalist supergroup is called by the acronym tied to an ancient egyptian goddess.

2) A nicely soundbyte-friendly acronym is made up for an equally made-up 'group'.

"They all deserve to die" is the sort of thing Islamic fundamentalists say, isn't it? And I'm not sure that "yes, but I'm right" is sufficient distinction. I mean, I'm sure that Islamic fundamentalists would say that, too.

I dunno, Traitorfish. I think they'd be rather yelling very loudly certain things about Allah while taking down phallic towers with explosives strapped to their bodies.

Considering they murder innocent civilians, I think death is the deserved penalty for what they are doing.

So does your your government, and so does my government, and yet Cuddly Bear doesn't call for any of those heads. He's willing to accept that blood as a grim necessity. In general, if not in particular; even if he might agree that any given killing was unnecessary, even unjust, he doesn't raise any objection to the general assumption that killing civilians is something that states do, something that is part of the business of statehood. He finds killing civilian s unacceptable when carried out by Islamist militants not because the killings are actually different, not because he actually objects to killing people, but because he doesn't recognise their right to kill.

If we're going to be outrage, we should at least be honest about the nature of that outrage.

Which makes you wonder if maybe, just maybe, CuddlyBear is no different from the very ones he despises?

Or something, I guess.

Does this look made-up to you?

They also go by the name "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant", or ISIL, which is somewhat less pagan-sounding, I guess.

Although I grant that it is disputable that they are currently a "supergroup" except in the fevered minds of themselves and their supporters.

Isn't it strange that these puritans use distinctly phallic methods of expressing their outrage about degenerate Western ways?

I don't know how far this analogy would go (probably not far at all). It's just something that occurred to me this moment.

Their flag looks like it was made with MS Paint.

No, actually, it's worse. The white circle is nowhere near circular.
Dear god, I never realized how bad their flag is. That, if anything, is a good reason to oppose them. I don't want that monstrosity hanging from a flagpole anywhere a person with eyesight might happen upon it.

^It is indeed a very strangely shaped emblem. Appears to be random or created by someone who used a paint program for the first time, cause most of it is curves, and some is parallel lines, and the sum of distinct vertex points also looks to be non-sensical (they have no apparent symmetry either).

Which rather makes it even more likely that the actual rebels are some other group, or have other ties, or at best are a collection of loosely-tied groups with no common flag.

Butcher those who insult democracy!

Would you have also shown Churchill and FDR to the gallows?

I know you know but for trivia:

Funny you mentioned it; that flag is also used by Al-Shebaab.
