ITNES I - An Epoch of Change

As am I. As I hope andis and Imago are too.

Though I'll try to make sure that Imago in particular doesn't enjoy the upcoming update. Or at least that the Israfanids don't like the next update.

Yeah you all quiters can go to hell after screaming ITNES every tenth post. We could have been playing an industrial NES nao.

And I was never one of them. I supported ITNES, but I was never screaming for it. So you can stop your generalizations. This is not ITNES' fault, I just don't have much NESing time these days, and very little time generally whittles down one's interests.

Das is a great mod (perhaps the best), and this is still a great NES.

That said, I expect Erez and Sheep will be in for a suprise in their attempts to surpise me ;)

Everyone hates me, despite the fact that I'm one of the most loyal allies there is.

Azale attacked, didn't he?

...Heh.

I will do nothing that will danger the security of the Ayarvartan Empire...

surprise? ohh sounds interesting :), can't wait to see what you made that can break my navy...

:) wee first story in a long time for me...

The winds were blowing west, the same direction which Zurad and his caravan has been traveling for the last three moons in the sky. They had braved through bandits and treacherous mountain passes during their passage to and fro the mystical Far East. What has started out as a mighty caravan of close to thousand people has dwindled down to less than 2 hundred. This was to be expected, however. Everyone knew of how profitable the trade with the east along the Silk Road is, but few know about the risks involved. Danger lie around in every corner, be it in the form of bandits, corrupt officials, wild animals and worse of all the earth herself. The great central desert was truly a test of faith by (insert God of religion which the people believe in :p ). Zurad had heard stories about the cold and snow storms of the north, yet nothing he heard could be compared to the cruelty of the desert. Even with the strongest and most obedient camels available, his caravan still suffered losses. How can he not, when even one moment of distraction can separate you from the rest of your caravan, and seal your fate in the desert? When the sands tear into any crevices in your apparel an d burn your skin? Worse yet, there are those who tried to make off with the goods themselves. Zurad doubt any of them survived the desert, and often wondered why they’re willing to risk their life over several items of trade goods. “There are times when men don’t think rationally, Zurad. Gold, Woman and Fame, any by itself is a danger, and together they’re sure to be a recipe for disaster!” Zurad’s father often quotes that to him in the rare days which he is actually home. Zurad never took the words seriously; especially when they come from an old, lonely man whose wife ran away and took his fortune with her. Perhaps the old man did have some sense in his words after all…

As Zurad led his men to the border of the great Bulgar Empire with Turan, he noticed an abnormally large number of people on the road. Had something happened during his time spent in the Far East and the desert? Cautious and wary of the traffic, he ordered his men to hide the goods they carried with them for hundreds of days, and ordered his brother in law (whom he promised to his sister that he’ll bring back safely, a promise that he was surprised he actually kept) to pick up the latest gossips in the empire. As he waited, his mind wandered back to the memories he picked up of the Far East. The difference in the population, the size of the cities, the complexity of their farms and irrigation canals, the list goes on and on. He was sure that if the Empire would adopt some of the measures/policies he came to learn of in the Far East, they would benefit and their neighbours would suffer. Perhaps that’s one possible career for him after he retire from trading, be the emperor’s own advisor!

As Zurad chuckled at his own joke, he saw several men heading his way. His hand reached toward his sword hilt until he saw that they were the men whom he sent in the first place. That is, all of them were present save one man, his brother in law. Zurad had mixed emotions when he heard of what happened. On one hand he failed to keep his promise to his sister after the fool was too eager in asking the guards question and earned himself a trip to the local jail, but the news brought to him by the other men were more rewarding. A great war is being fought in the south, at the junction of the other main Silk Road. This can only mean good news for merchants like him! Zurad shook his head. He was looking forward to being the emperor’s advisor after finishing this trip too. Naturally, that will have to be delayed after hearing this news.

WTH is this? We are playing perhaps the best and most legendary NES ever on the face of the NESing Earth, and people are actually quitting? Its not just sad, its a sacrilege!

That said.. am waiting eagerly for the update :)

*HUGE EYE ROLL*

Ally. ALLY. Not one of two nations sitting next to each other, with no other PCs in the area. And in the end, if you note, my plans ended with you getting half my nation's territory, without a single casulity. :)

But this I will not speak of anymore.

Saraxeres stepped up in front of the crowd. He knew this was a critical event. He had never been fond of public speaking, let alone doing so in wartime. But he knew that now, it was a necessity.

He paused for a moment. The Shah's royal garments lay heavily at his sides. The crown of Parhae glinted in a ray of sun. His wavy brown hair, growing just past his ears, rustled slightly in the breeze. His pale blue eyes radiated a look of sincerity and resolve.

Drawing in a calm (or calming), the Shah began to speak.

"I come to you in a time of direst threat to our ancient empire. The hordes of Luca, already tens of thousands strong, are struggling to break through our defensive lines. The situation of our great army entrenched in the northwest then grew worse, as Dacia stated its intentions to send another fifty thousand troops against us.

Our situation became untenable. To prevent the utter destruction of Parhae, I relinquished our conquests in the Caucasus and Northern Mesopotamia."

The crowd was silent. Then, an angry sound began to rise.

"However," said Saraxeres in a rising voice "I will not surrender 1/3 of our country away for mere peace. What we lose in the Northwest, I swear to you, we will regain in the south!

For the cause of this war, what gave Luca the opportunity to attack us, was the Israfanids. It is they who shall suffer our wrath.

Prior to this war, I had been willing to let them exist in peace, perhaps even friendship. In their times of troubles, I didn't take advantage, as I believed they would do the same for us. I had, I will now admit, gravely misjudged them.

They call us treacherous! They call us liars! Snakes! Heretics! Everything that they are and we are not.

With our full might, we shall crush them. Their leaders shall have their heads on the pikes before this war is over! Perhaps their people can be saved from the vile lies and deception that are fed to them. I am not yet sure what they will do. Yet I can make one guarantee to you! Parhae shall cut down every Israfanid that would dare fight us!

Glory to Parhae!" he shouted, clenching his fist in front of him!"

"Glory to Parhae!" roared the crowd.

"Death to the Betrayer Israfanids!"

Proclamation Against Heresy

The Invincible Sun has blessed our island. He shines His Light upon the nations of Alba, and makes the people enlightened. There are men who still stand in the shadows, but they too will see the Light with time; such is the power of Sol, who vanquishes the darkness and is not vanquished. But far more dangerous than the men who sit in ignorance of the Light are those who profess enlightenment but conspire to corrupt and pervert Sol's holy Church, and turn their brothers away from the true path of Light. They do not hide in the shadows, but in plain sight, wearing the vestments of the Church and Sol's life-giving rays as a cloak to deceive the righteous. They are a perfidious, insidious threat to the purity of the Church and to the souls of every righteous believer. They are blasphemers and heretics, and they reside in the temples and palaces of Icenia. With their blasphemous words, they rend Sol's holy and universal Church in two: they claim that the earthly King of the Iceni is equal in dignity to the Lord Pontiff of the Church, and the most brazen and proud equate the tyrant of Caer Bechet to the Invincible Sun himself; and because they stand behind their heretic King, they drive a wedge into the heart of the universal Church, and the result can only be schism. This is what the blackheart deceivers want: to drive the righteous away from the orthodox worship of the Almighty Sun, and to convert them to the unholy worship of their King, who is merely a man like any other. The High King of Caledonia sees this treachery for what it is, and stands behind the Lord Pontiff and the divine orthodoxy of the universal Church of Sol. Therefore, let it be known in all the countries of Alba that Mael Coluim, High King of Caledonia, and loyal servant of Sol Invictus and his holy and united Church, condemns the royalty and clergy of Icenia as heretics, and as such declares the government of the Kingdom of the Iceni and the Church of the Iceni to be false and illegitimate. In the name of Sol, the blasphemers of Icenia are a black mark upon the holy Church of Light, and the righteous armies of Caledonia shall wash them away.

Proclamation in Support of Legitimacy and Restoration

The Kingdom of Cymru, a natural and sovereign state, the oldest of the three on this great island, and much beloved of Sol, has been denied its natural sovereignty, and is not a free and independent state. The government of "brenin" Llywelyn is not the legitimate government of Cymru; it is a puppet of the Iceni heretics, a government of occupation sent from Caer Bechet to Caerllion to administer the Iceni conquest of Cymru. The legitimate government of Cymru stands strong in exile in Caledonia, and prepares for the day when the true brenin, Owain the Great, will return to liberate his country and drive out the heretics and pretenders. Caledonia will not suffer the people of Cymru to live under the thumb of blasphemous conquerors. In the name of Sol, High King Mael Coluim affirms the legitimacy of the government of brenin Owain, and declares his support for the liberation of Cymru from Iceni occupation. May the forces of Light vanquish the darkness that envelopes Cymru, as the Invincible Sun vanquishes all darkness in the world.

Statement of Brenin Owain to the Cymrese People

Take heart, brave men of Cymru! The time of occupation is coming to an end. The time of your liberation draws near! Soon your true King shall return from exile, and deliver the country from tyrrany. My army is strong, and my will is stronger, and the might of our allies is also behind us. If any among you still loves liberty and despises the heavy hand of a foreign King and his tellers of lies, make ready your best arms, and assemble your regiments, and prepare for the war of liberation which will soon be upon us, when the blood of traitors and hateful foreign conquerors will refresh the soil of our ancient country, and make the heart of our nation stout. Rise, men of Cymru! Stand and fight for your ancient freedoms! Rail against the heresies of those unholy men who pervert the worship of our Lord the Sun as a means to draw men's eyes away from His glory and to secure for their Iceni King the praise fit only for Sol Invictus. Rise, stand, fight, rail! Victory is assured, if Cymrese hearts are brave and Cymrese arms are strong.

Suspected that would happen, but you did a good job in making me believe you thought Nortugal was a bigger threat.

hey! I AM a bigger threat! :p
