JFD's The World According to Modders

I wonder what my design should be . . .

That's one way of seeing it. It could also be JFD not waking up at the right time :p

This table thing could be really useful, actually, as long as no random (thinks of a family-friendly way of saying ba-) person decides to vandalise it.
(JFD's edits don't count as vandalism :p)

That's why I said to distribute the document URL through PMs, although I guess we'd still have to trust each other.

I've also thought of an idea for notifying if a change has been made: all table entries are written in bold, and then JFD unbolds them when he has noted the entry. That way, he would know that all bold entries are new since he last checked.

[Edit] Are modding religions like SQLism going to be added?

Well, Gazebo and Whoward got religions...

Checked the file and XMLism and SQLism are legit. And here I am with no sway either way. I mean, I've done mods in both XML (e.g. Vietnam) and SQL (e.g. Malaysia). Sometimes I even use both in the same solution :P

I use SQL for most of the mod, and then XML for text and as a backup if something doesn't work :/

Also, would the table work better with a column for every flavour/leader bias? While this would be helpful, it would also take up a lot of space - excel anyone?

I mean, I'll have like Civilization.xml and Units.sql, which isn't exactly orthodox.

It'd probably be better for each flavour to have its own column, to avoid confusion.
Also if the table could explain how flavours worked for Sovereignty that'd be much appreciated.

Might be easiest to knock together a spreadsheet of those.

I'd love a table that explained all the vanilla flavours - what does I_TRADE_ROUTE_DESTINATION mean? That the leader wants to be the destination, or that it wants a foreign destination? Doesn't help that Firaxis used 5 for all the flavours...

There's no rush for anyone. I've only released two, and there's no set plan for how long it'll be between releases - there's also no structure to what the next releases will be. Take your time.

Ah sorry, I forgot I already asked you about the date before. I am just excited at the possibility of being included

Anyway, Scapegrace...
My happy LS is obviously =oD
Vicevirtuoso's dynamic leader screens also allow for different screens for Guarded, Hostile, Denouncing, War and Defeat. Any face preferences for those? :p

Well, the answer is obviously 5, isn't it? :p

Well, that's one answer to the religion issue that I was discussing with Typhlomence last night. I'd probably go with XMLism, as I'll use SQL periodically, but I still find it easier to parse XML rather than SQL code.

SQL is the One True Code, vile heathens!

Can those of XML and those of SQL not just live in peace? Or will I have to put on another record?

SQL is the One True Code, vile heathens!
Thou perfidious follower of an unclean faith, I denounce thee! Furthermore, the ArchAngel Database.log shall visit seven scourges upon all your Empires!:
  1. A Barbarian Spawn Increase shall be unleashed upon all your cities, and all your improvements shall be pillaged, and all your cities attacked and captured, and verily, your treasury shall be stolen away to be used by Barbarian Leaders to buy crass blue jeans and to download Triumph CD's from the iTunes store!
  2. All your Great Generals and Great Admirals shall be named "Humpty-Dumpty" in-game.
  3. Your technologies shall become unresearchable
  4. All the buildings in all your cities shall become obsolete as soon as you build them
  5. All your units shall be instantly downgraded to the next less-valuable unit.
  6. All your units shall require both Iron and Oil in order to build them
  7. All your social policies shall be dynamically and randomly re-assigned at Sid's Whim

Spoiler Colonialist Legacies DoM :
May the ball you habitually curl into deflect all the arrows of your enemies, TPangolin, great chieftain of Colonialist Legacies. Your rise to power was as swift as the bounce of the kangaroo that forms that first mod's icon, and all about have born witness to the dynamism and diversity of your mods. Not for you the eleven millionth Russia split; your legacy has stretched across the globe, from the deserts of Australia to the polar wastes of the Inuit territories.

O mightiest and most habitually drunk Pangolin, that legacy demands you rise once more! Will you sate the fickle hearts of all the world's walruses? Will your empire ever expand into Zimbabwe? Can you mod a Civilization that will stand the test of time?

@Natan How do you have spare time if you spent your break doing homework?

Don't post things to an excel sheet. That'll become a nightmare to look at and, for me, to extract your info from it. Use this word doc I've set up.

@Scapegrace You'll need a new UU, I think. TPangolin doesn't want to share his Nigerian UU :p

@Senshi What I meant was there wasn't a pattern by which I determine the next releases - although mostly they follow some order of priority privileging civ modders, modders, and then the rest. However, you get to tag along with Jan's and my release.

Okay... er, hm. New UU!

UU: Thing Scape Just Googled (replaces Knight)
Unlike the Knight it replaces, this is something Scape found in an article on JSTOR from several decades ago while operating on precisely eight and a half minutes of sleep and enough caffeine to kill a bull walrus. It starts with Charge and the unique promotion "Can Units Actually Do This?", which grants a permanent +5% Combat Bonus every time the unit captures a Worker (to a maximum of +50%). Requires Horses. Upgrades as normal.

---

This is, for reference, the Abdallab from DMS's Sultanate of Sennar mod. And yes, units can do that - and more importantly, the AI knows how to use it properly! =]
