K8: MONSTER MAP - 362x362 map with 24 civs

1725 - Toledo builds warrior,
1700 - Nothing much
1675 - Warrior Built in Murcia, set to build worker
1650 - Valencia builds warrior, set to build worker, couple of other cities changed from warrior to workers
1625 - settler built, moved south and east
1600 - Settler built, moved south...
1575 - Warrior moving west from North Germany spots two more German cities to the west. Also the two cows to the sw quickly resolves itself into 4 cows, 1 wheat and a game... Sheesh these resources are CrAzY
1550 - Murcia builds worker, as does Toledo. Uh oh, spot a German settler, spearman combo near my cows...
1525 - Valencia builds worker, Madrid builds Granary and goes straight for settlers.
Strangely the German Settler moves further north? 4 cows not good enough for ya?
Zaragoza founded to the southwest of Barcelona, brings another cow and wheat under our power...
1500 - Ah true to its nature, Pamplona is founded with an amazing 3 cows in range, a wheat and a game, as well as two bonus grassland. We now have a shared border with Germany.
Santiago completed a settler and sends him south by the river to scoop up another cow.

OK, so my first big decision...
I trade Warrior Code, Bronze Working and 10 gold from the Germans for Alphabet, Pottery and Ceremonial Burial, I want troops and we cant get decent horsemen or spears without these, and Writing completes in 10 turns and I obviously cant switch this to something more warlike :(
Germany are now Cautious instead of Annoyed, their city list puts them at 8 cities compared to our ten and they have Masonry and Iron Working!

Eeek...

Get some troops out guys!
Lets kill these German scum!
(present company excepted, of course, ;) Killer)

Melifluous

And thats my go...
With the super abundance of Wheat, Cows and Bonus Grassland, this should be a walk in the park. We have expanded at phenomenal speed, and now maybe we should concentrate on getting the horse attached and start pumping troops...

Anyway you're up Swiftsure

I didn't want to make the trade Melifluous did (I wanted to wait until further contact to lower the price), but I understand the reason. Great that we managed to get Pamplona there before the Germans!

I suggest to keep on expanding until the maximum number of cities is reached (512). We HAVE the room to expand to the west, north and east. I believe Madrid alone is capable to do a lot there as a settler factory. Connecting horses and facing Germany with a large force isn't a bad idea though.

Looks like a fun game guys.
Killer, could you post the 4000BC save file? I may want to play this myself at a later time. Sure would appreciate it. BTW is there any mods that need to be downloaded??

Matt

So, what? Do you want to redo this? Or continue?

Thanks Killer.

very brief notes i'm afraid, RL being a pain.

We have 15gp and horseriding will be in 10turns
Tax at 10%,sci at 80% and lux at 10%
We have 11 cities but germany have now got 13.

Are we sure about the location of Zaragoza, with all the space it seems to have lots of overlap.

And Meli, no we dont really want the germans as neighbours

WTH!

Building archers...?
Our UU is eventually a horsemen...
Horsemen initially beat the snot outta swordsmen and spears if you have enough...

They attack!

They Retreat!

And heal up ready for another day...

Give me 2 horsemen to every 1 swordsman and I will give you the world....

Also upgrade to Knights, Cav oh yeah...

Just a theory o' mine...

Any thoughts?

Melifluous

Melifluous, I absolutely agree. We have horses and should make use of that resource.

Also Madrid should have another warrior to keep citizens happy... The warrior from Murcia should go to Madrid IMHO. Then lux can go back to 0%.

And considering the fact that we are only 5th in size (see histograph), we must be aware that expansion with settlers can only be done in the early game. After that only with war.

We seem to be on an island with only Germany as neighbours. If we really stay isolated like it seems, we could end up to be very backward people - no trade! We could face huge oceans to cross to other continents, only possible at the end of the middle ages.

I guess most civs will be confimned to one or two neighbours, so do NOT fear becoming backwards too much.

We just must get Great Library....

Lurker delurks -

Melifluous - I too like horses but I must comment on: "Give me 2 horsemen to every 1 swordsman and I will give you the world....". Given that the two units cost the same amount this is not really relevant. You may as well say: Give me 2 swordmen to every 1 horseman and I will give you the world. Or even: Give me 2 gold for every 1 gold...

Just my 2 cents.

In an early GOTM I played (where Japan was on a huge island-continent), my army of 30 swords were DECIMATED by endless streams of horsemen.

OK,

I will clarify, you give me 1v1 horse against swords and I will give you most of their territory...

Better?

Also Killer?

I think we should get the GreatLib but maybe we should rush it with a GL rather than build it?

Invade, we need the extra expansion from conquest whilst they are still small enough to engulf!

Schnell, Schnell, Kartopelkopf... (ish)

Melifluous

PS. Retired builder, active WARMONGER!

i agree with meli, the rest of our island is jungle we must take the german territory by force.
