KA01 - A Simple Deity Space Race

@Mistfit, you probably won't read this for quite a while, but I'm very sorry to hear about your father. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

All the best,
nikof
(from Latvia, land of my ancestors)

Good luck Tomoyo

@ Karasu have one  on the team. Just tell the bartender that a guy in England, one in Canada and 3 in America want to pay for your drink. He should be able to find us from that description.

Update –

As you have heard my Dad passed away this last Saturday Evening. On Sunday I flew out to Portland, Ore to arrange his funeral. I am staying at my brother’s home and he has an Internet connection (albeit a slow dial-up). I will pop in now and again when I have the chance. Thanks for your condolences and warm thoughts. I plan on being back to Michigan sometime between Friday and Sunday. Please put me on auto skip until that time.

I have finished my turns. (During the game!) I will type the report after the game, and at the rate it's going, it will be tommorow.

EDIT: The game lasted 5 hours, and there's this little thing called "sleep" that I have to catch up on, seeing how the game last night lasted until 1:20 AM, I will post the turns and save tommorrow.

Sorry, but the Sox game took five and a half hours setting two records (the length record, and the number of length records set in one day ) so I wasn't able to type my turn log.

Anyhow... I didn't do anything major anyway.

Pre-Flight: All's good. Actually, probably not, but I was too lazy to go through all the cities to make sure.

Notes to the next better player:
Hoover city is Entremont. Continue optimizing it's production.
Don't trade Electronics for obvious reasons.
More workers.

Screenies to come if requested. Not much changed though.

Nice turn Tomoyo.

Should we rush the factory in Barcelona and get it started on Uni Suff?

Also, I know there is generally a lot of debate regarding hospitals vrs factories, which to build first. Since we are going for space wouldn't the hospitals be better first builds here? Especially when we consider that the Hoover Dam will complete about the same time most of our factory builds will thus giving us the same production bonus to our empire.

EDIT: BTW I love the makeup of Canterbury, ENG, SPN & ZUL citizens.

Is that as a prebuild or for it's own sake?

Most of our Barcelona core can't get above pop 12 unless we thin it out. Also, we'd have to divert research to Sanitation for 4 turns. Should we wait for the AI to research it?

BTW Good work, Tomoyo

I would guess that, since there is nothing to prebuild for, it is for it's for its only sake.

Next player can also choose to rush a coal plant in Entremont and then continue Hoover Dam.

 Oops, my bad on the hospital question - I thought we already had Sanitation. So I would say lets stay with the factories :). Some food increase will come from RR, overall not much more growth in that core area.

However, we do have Industrialization and can build Universal Suffrage right now. OTTO have already started on it. The Barcelona factory has 4 turns to complete or can be rushed for 480 gold. Trying to take into account the +9spt from the GA bonus. If we rushed the factory and then switched to US we should be able to complete it in about 22-23 turns.

My Math for Barcelona: Rush factory now, have about 2 turns at 45spt before end of GA, then drop to about 31 spt (21 of 22 shields w/o GA + 50% bonus for factory = 31) should complete in about 23 turns. Actually sooner because the Hoover Dam will complete during the build and there are additional shields to be picked up from RR all worked tiles.

Alternatively if we want to try for both Wonders we could rush a factory in Entremont (after 1 turn) then we should be able to build US in Entremont in about 11 turns. Since we have a monopoly on Electronics no one else would be able to switch to Hoover Dam (no cascade after US completes). We can build Hoover in Barcelona at the same time. Same math as above since both Wonders cost 800 shields.

My Math for Entremont: Build factory for a turn, then rush it. Entremont would get 1 turn of GA and factory bonus (about 103 shields) then it would have only the factory bonus giving it 84 spt. (697/84= 8.3 turns => 9 turns).

I think we can get both of them by building US first which will cause a Wonder cascade but the OTTOs have nothing to switch too.

I took it, but I won't be able to play before tomorrow evening at least (no, it's not the hangover! ;) ).

Quick roster update

Karasu - Up with his faded look
Nikof - planning never to go back home
AlanH
Gator
Mistfit
Tomoyo - exhausted after playing two games at the same time

Keep an eye on some of our gpt trades I believe a bunch of them will be up in about 4 turns. Also the Otto's seem to have a surplus of $ we could sell them lux or wait until they start to research somthing new. I think we need to gift them up to par as soon as our prebuild is certain

Edit: One of the nice things about being in Ore. is that the Baseball game is on 3 hours earlier because of time zone so I'm enjoing seeing the games during relativley normal hours. Go Sox!

Pre-turn
Switch research to Corporation (due one turn earlier).

Talking about research, I think I would have skipped replaceable parts as that's the only tech that the AI would have almost certainly researched for us, even though that meant postponing the benefit of extra worker efficiency. But it's ok anyway.

Hurry factory in Barcelona plus several Libraries and Unversities worldwide.
Switch Entremont to Universal Suffrage, Barcelona will start Hoover next turn.

Give Medicine, Communism, Industrialization to everyone. We are going to have Corporation in four turns, and I plan on selling that one for the deals that will expire.

Turn 1 - 850 AD
Nothing happens

IT
Suleyman is annoyed because a unit of ours has trespassed into his borders (where?). I give him furs, and of course we are leaving :D

Turn 4 - 890 AD
We discover The Corporation and our Golden Age ends.
Sell Corporation to Ottomans for 260 gp and 180 gpt, to Japan for 100 gpt, to Aztecs for 50 gpt, to Zulus for 27 gpt

Start researching Refining, due in 5 even at 100% science (we are making 91 gpt thanks to all the donations).
I am thinking whether it is the case to expand a little more in order to reach the 4-turns research level... :hmm:

Turn 8 - 920 AD
The AI seem to be researching Electricity. I trade it around hoping they start doing something useful.

Turn 10 - 940 AD
We discover Refining. Start Steel. Still 5 turns.

Notes
I had to rush these turns a little bit -I have no extraordinary events to report anyway.
I built a few workers and rushed things here and there.
There is a lonely settler heading to the small lake in former India, just to claim a few free tiles not too far from our capital.
Everyone is building the Suffrage, but we should be able to complete it.
There are several factory builds that can be freely switched to anything else (I just couldn't find anything more useful at the moment).
Hopefully Sanitation should come relatively soon, but after that we are on our own -we can try to bring the AI to Combustion and Rep Parts hoping they research Mass Production, but I wouldn't bet anything on that at this point.

The Save

With nikof out for another week, (28th October was his ETA) I guess I'm in the hot seat again.

If we feel the AI are not going to contribute much more to our research program, I think you may be right. Maybe we need a few Zulu (ex Indian/Keltoi) towns to add to our multicultural society? There are oneor two jungly ones, but Delhi and a few others look useful. We could run a lot of specialists there.

BTW. You're continuing to demonstrate your mathematical prowess and your aversion to the number 10. Shall I play 11 to get us back to 1050 AD?

Yeah grab 11 turns.

On the science issue, the cost of modern age techs range between 6500 (computers) to 9000 (soace flight & superconductors). To maintain the 4 turn research rate we need to be generating nearly 2000 beakers per turn when we enter the modern age and then quickly expand that to 2250 bpt for the more expensive techs.

We're producing 1392 bpt from cities plus 2 bpt from scientists. If I retrain 6 taxmen as scientists then the ETA for steel comes down from 5 turns to 4. :)

However, I think we'll need a lot more in 4 turns time as Combustion is our next project and I think it's at least 10% more expensive. Does anyone have a reference giving the tech costs? My Mac editor has the 1.21f costs, and I'm pretty sure they don't tie up with 1.29f - they certainly don't match the numbers in Gator's last post.

We have a few universities in build, but nothing that will generate the sort of increases we're looking for. So I think Karasu's right ... we need some more cities. Are we going for the Internet? It would give us a big increase in beakers if it's available, but we would need Miniaturisation. But we'd need that anyway of Robotics is a requirement for the Spaceship. Anyone know?

My tech cost numbers are wrong because I had the incorrect level of the game. I'll update them.

Welcome back Mistfit. I don't mind letting you jump in front of me.

Here are the correct initial research cost for diety level. (I used CivAssist for the costs).

KA01_08.jpg

Our goal for beakers should be 3000 bpt in the Modern Era. This gets all the techs except the ones costing 12800 in 4 turns.

How are you figuring how many beakers per turn we are accumulating? Is this somthing civassist does? I could play tonight if it's Ok with the team.

Edit: Oops Alan has it now. let me know when to take it. I'd love to do some pounding of the Zulu if needed.

Edit2: Lyons is going to riot if not taken care of IBT.
