Karl Rove calls it quits...

Anyone looking forward to MC Rove's book?

YEA!!! another victory for the liberals
No, it's another victory for uniting the Americans insted of Rove like a parasite sucking up the radical right's emotions and using it against the Moderates and Liberals thus causing a sharp divide between Liberals and Conservatives, and Democrats and Republicans.

To use as a lining of a bird cage? Sure ;)

I would comment but i know how sensitive you are

Partisan hackery sucks. It's always good news to see someone who is essentially the quintessence of it retire.

And in other news....Bush's approval rating goes up 10 points due to Rove leaving......

That I highly doubt. Bush's approval ratings will still remain in the bottom of the barrel.

His approval rating hasnt been in the bottom of the barrel for some time. I think you are thinking of congress.

He hit new lows (for him) as late as July of this year.

And even at that, he is still doing better than the democrat controlled congress.

Most Presidents have higher approval ratings than Congress (people tend to like their Congressman, but dislike Congress in general). Nevertheless, a July poll that measured the President and Congress by party showed that he is only outpolling a certain segment of Congress:

Democrats in Congress: 31%
Bush: 26%
Republicans in Congress: 21%

Glad to see passed your online course of 'how to cherry pick data 101'....aka 'Poll du jour'. :goodjob:

"Rove was dragging Bush down"

"But Bush's poll numbers are still on the floor"

"No, they've been rising lately"

"That isn't true"

"Okay, well he's still doing better than Congress"

"That isn't true either"

"You cherrypicked a poll!"

*sigh*

Anyway, offhand I can think of a few reasons Mr Rove might submit his resignation now:

- He knows Congress is about to turn him into a walking Executive Privilege constitutional issue, so better to resign now rather than have it appear (correctly) later that Bush Rummy'ed him.
- His home number is on the DC Madam's speed dial.
- His departure is a sop to Congressional Republicans.
- He really does want to spend more time with his family.
- There are no more major battles to fight in the White House for this administration.
- He wants to start helping one of the Republicans campaigning for '08 (discreetly, of course).

I don't think I will ever understand this man's view on the world. I keep coming back to this quote (posted earlier):

Karl Rove said:
As people do better, they start voting like Republicans - unless they have too much education and vote Democratic, which proves there can be too much of a good thing.

Does anyone know the actual context of this quote, or is he really saying that republicans rely mostly on the well-off and the uneducated for support....?

It would seem that his (and everybody elses if he would have his way) World starts with The Repuplican Party and ends with The Repuplican Party.

No regard or regret for the people he has crushed (or attempted to) or the Law and Constitution, the lies, the botched up politics or the overall sorry state he's leaving the nation in. A great powerful man, but an insignificant, cold human being. Well, don't worry - after the next Presidential election someone else will inherit the burden of cleaning up after Bush's + Rove's terms in office.

If there's anything positive to say about the last 8 years in US politics, it is that one can hope that the American voters (democrats, republicans, everyone) will never ever elect a President backed by the ultra neo-conservatives again.

...and I find myself answering my own question :)

the full quote, mentioned in post 47, in context....

"Take a look at our agenda. Education. This year, we picked up seven points in the suburbs over '96. Our education plan allows us to make further gains in the suburbs. It will also allow us to make gains with Hispanics and African-Americans. The tax cuts will make the economy grow. As people do better, they start voting like Republicans -- unless they have too much education and vote Democratic, which proves there can be too much of a good thing. Look at the course of the campaign. There's a lot of data. If you give people the choice between a tax cut and more government services, they'll choose the tax cut. The more Bush talked about an across-the-board cut, the more support for it grew. People do have a desire for basic services--schools, helping the less fortunate -- but not for unrestricted government."

Guess its sounds a little better in context, but it still makes me feel a bit uneasy...

Or he's gearing up for a new Dancing With the Stars, together with Tucker Carlson:

With his family watching, of course.

He has a family? Moreover, they'd be glad if he came home?

Well, I must say I dislike the guy, but his resignation is pointless. The damage has been done, and America has been split down the middle over frivolous issues.
