KhaNESII: S.P.Q.R

I believe that formalities are important because the Senators can still vote, and sometimes its important to see who they vote for.

Ironically, if Cassius had voted for Viator like he wanted to, it still might have been possible for him to draw even with Iustus and there to be a revote between the two. Of course, Caesar, Marcus and Aulus would all have to vote for Viator as well.

Or maybe not, my last count was a while ago and according to talonschild he couldn't have. I think somebody flip-flopped inbetween somewhere.

Oh well, c'est la vie, as the Gauls say.

OOC: I flipped, because the only choice was either to wait until all the votes were in, and if they came out a tie, everyone would revote. The second consul would have been chosen by the vote of the Populares, which rankled.

@Nintz, you do know that changing your vote from Marcus Argetius Viator to Tiberius Tertinius Pachomius seems very out-of-character. Isn't your character a Sulla man and an Optimate? Tiberius Tertinius Pachomius is far and away from that.

OOC: He's an opportunist. He goes with the flow.

Wait, thught he was someone else. Nvm

Yes and no.

Sulla was his mentor, and in doing so sort of created someone who stood against many of his own policies, yet a die-hard supporter of others. He ended up being raised a common soldier more than anything else, and in doing so realized that the common people were far, far more important than Sulla ever gave credit for. Essentially, he became a "liberal", if you will, because he saw enough to see that the people mattered. However, he was still raised a soldier, and favors very hard-line policies and over-committing to the military to enforce ruthless policies against enemies. Such as castrating the entire male population, to prevent non-Roman re-population. Oh. Wait. That might actually be a good idea at some point. *writes down note*

Anyway, as for who to support, he does not favor lost causes and would have looked at the consuls winning the election by a large margin. In his mind, it didn't really matter because there are two consuls, however, he sees that all consuls are fairly pro-military, yet Tiberius is more in line with the reasoning of Cassius than the other candidate. And, he was promised a generalship somewhere (publicly) by Tiberius, so that alone would have made him vote simply if he operated on the spoils system.

This semi-rant may or may not make sense, but the character I have in mind does follow a personality I understand, even if you don't. Hope that helps at least a little.

Tiberius Tertinius Palomachius (erez87) and Iustus Brucius (ekolite)

Congratulations are in order.

The Senate is now open for the proposing of laws.

You have 48 hours to propose any law you see fit. A reminder, Laws are not necessarily binding, but are FORMAL RECOMMENDATIONS from the Senate to the Consuls for their term. Breaking them may have consequences, for both Senators and Consuls.

Please propose and debate on laws. Laws are to be proposed as follows.

Law 1.x
Blah blah blah, blah blah blah.
Proposed by: A B C (Grandkhan)

Where the first number is the Session Term (in this case, 1) and the second number is current number of the law proposed in this session, that is, the first is 1.1, the second is 1.2, etc.

Please propose and debate on laws.

ooc: Dammit, I forgot about this. I was just ready to vote, but you posted before I could vote.

But, I guess, nothing really changes in the result of the elections if I vote.

You can always make public who you were going to vote for, if you want to publicly display your loyalty to someone, but yeah, sorry. Time ran out.

I would like to thank the senate for electing me as one of the two consuls since the death of Sulla. I also wish to congratulate Brucius on his victory as well.

Now that the elections are over it is time we get to work.

I thereby offer Law 1.1 - the war in Pannonia - two legions, II and III, will be sent to Pannonia to deal with the raids and if possible, conquer the province.

I will offer more laws soon. I call upon my supporters of the Populist party to suggest laws as well.

Law 1.2
The position of Tribune of the Plebeians, abolished by Sulla, will be reestablished.
Proposed by: Titus Lucretius Longus (momo1000)

I suggest we open a social group to represent the senate. That way we can have a separate thread to discuss each potential law. It worked very well in a similar NES I once ran myself.

Law 1.1 - Pannonia Expedition

The consuls, in accordance to the discussion with the other senators, must take a stand on the pannonia situation, and fast. If we were to invade that province, or maybe sue them for peace, it needs to be done fast.

They are but crows stealing from the eagle... the eagle isn't the pigeon.

Law 1.2
The position of Tribune of the Plebeians, abolished by Sulla, will be reestablished.
Proposed by: Titus Lucretius Longus (momo1000)
OOC: I am pretty sure Khal won't allow that. It says on the rules "no changes to the constitution".

Tiberius Tertinius Pachomius

Law 1.3 Reenactment of the Gracchii Reforms - A limit will be put upon all Ager Publicus land that is leased to others. The limit will be larger than before at 750 Iugera, 250 Iugera for the eldest son and another 200 for the second son.

Law 1.4 Expansion of the Grain Dole - The grain dole will be expanded to feed all citizens, male, female, and children, that cannot afford to purchase food for the following year.

ooc: KHAN - how much would that cost?

Law 1.5 All people that were exiled by Sulla will be allowed to return.

Law 1.6 Government salaries - all men employed by the senate for the coming year will be paid according to ability - A general will receive 3x military skill, an envoy will receive 2x intrigue skill. A bonus may be given to those who do exceptionally well, but they pay will be calculated at the beginning of every year the man is employed.

ooc: I'm well aware that it starts low.

Law 1.7 For this year the 1st legion must be kept in Italia for peace keeping and will not be led by a general.

ooc: Should we offer laws for people receiving jobs? Also everyone suggest laws, voting will soon come!

And I stated before I will support Marcus Viator as first general of the Pannonian expedition and general of the 2nd Legion.

OOC: Yeah, I think we should use the laws to make the appointments by the Senate. Probably put all of the proposed appointments in one law though, otherwise if there are competing claims, we don't want to get Law 1.45 dudius maximus governor of blah, Law 1.46 guyius caesar governor of bleh.

Nay

Law 1.4 Expansion of the Grain Dole - The grain dole will be expanded to feed all citizens, male, female, and children, that cannot afford to purchase food for the following year.

Aye

Law 1.5 All people that were exiled by Sulla will be allowed to return.

Aye

Law 1.6 Government salaries - all men employed by the senate for the coming year will be paid according to ability - A general will receive 3x military skill, an envoy will receive 2x intrigue skill. A bonus may be given to those who do exceptionally well, but they pay will be calculated at the beginning of every year the man is employed.

No opinion

Law 1.7 For this year the 1st legion must be kept in Italia for peace keeping and will not be led by a general.

And I stated before I will support Marcus Viator as first general of the Pannonian expedition and general of the 2nd Legion.

The Senate does not have the authority to vote on this matter. If you support these measures, I urge you to discuss with Bruscius.

It's not voting time yet.

And I am well aware, but I do want to see the Senate's interests.

But TheDright - that would be the coolest. I mean the consuls decide in the end anyway ;) so anyone can suggest anyone to any job - but in the end the consuls decide.

I would very much prefer it if my fellow Consul was to discuss with me before proposing any new laws.
