KhaNESII: S.P.Q.R

If the issue is timing due to the holiday period I can give an extension. I don't want to screw you guys over based on RL.

Also bringing your disagreement to the Senate won't do anything. The voting is over, the time for execution is now.

Shouldn't we be able to bring the senate to voting any time we want?

Pachomius there is no need to involve the Senate in the writing of the Bill. That's what we are for. I really advise you not to make a big deal out of this, if you are seriously willing to threaten political crisis (on the first turn), over such a minor and insignificant issue then all you will do is seriously embarrass yourself in front of the Senate, and the people of Rome. Both of us need to make concessions in order to write a Bill we can both agree on. I have made several already, I think now you need to compromise.

that was actually mostly OOC :p but hey, I am a populist ;) in any case i'll be back in an hour so we could discuss this latest stuff.
IC:

Bruscius I did not threaten to bring out latest disagreement to the senate, I only spoken to the head of the senate (khan) to make sure we have enough time to write the bill of Rome for this year. It was Aulus (popcornlord) who may have overheard me and suggested to bring it to the Senate, an idea I brought to you.

You of all should know the choosing of generals for the Pannonian front is not a 'minor and insignificant' issue. Are you not a warrior yourself that you should know that? Please do not embarrass your self by claiming I am doing something silly without thinking.

I do not recall any compromises you have made, in fact that is the first time we have come to disagreement, you have spoken of no problem you had before in what we did agree upon.

ooc: oh and i'll delete mine if you yours ;) it was in ooc up until now...

OOC: why would you want to bring this to the Senate anyhow? Senate majority favors Bruscius.

However Pachomius I must say that if you truly thought it was such an important issue, you would not object to, and in fact perhaps you would insist upon, a Consul overseeing the Pannonia situation directly and in person. As I am the only one of the two of us with any meaningful experience of war, clearly that should be me. I have volunteered for the role, but I firmly believe that if I am to do so effectively I should be free to choose my own co-General, rather then be forced to accept a less compatible choice that you insist upon. As I have already said, you are being extremely stubborn, and threatening a political crisis over an issue which really doesn't warrant such a level of controversy. There are two Consuls of this Republic, and you are going to need to learn how to work with me if we are to act as an effective leadership. You can't have everything your own way.

Bruscius friend, I have threatened no crisis. Our discussion was not over yet, and I did not think it was to be brought to the idea of a "political crisis".

I have agreed that Pannonia is important and should receive a consul's care, but while I disagree completely that making Viator as a secondary general would be "less compatible", he is a well renowned warrior with much knowledge as a military leader. Your reasoning to not agree with me, that will remain private, are the true silliness. We need the best of our military men for Pannonia, and that is you and Viator.

Indeed there are two consuls to the republic, and that is the way it should be. So no single consul could ever gain enough power to decide how Rome behaves on his own, and may I remind you that it is me who believes no man should receive more than a single office in Rome. All for the separation of power, and making sure no other Sulla rises anytime soon.

In any case, going "your way" is against our earlier agreement that each of us will decide on one of two generals for the Pannonian Campaign, and, unless you disagree, we should take this back to privacy.

OOC: Seon. No he doesn't.

Marcus Cornelius Scipio (Stats still do not reflect my changed name)

Apologies Esteemed Senators, business has taken me away from Rome, military friends invited me to Macedonia so they could show me the situation up front. I have returned with new understanding and fully support Bruscius in commanding the Armies against Pannonia, but I believe he alone should command both Legions as I feel he is the only qualified commander.

I am confused that my vote for Bruscius did not count, I would have thought my esteemed friends would realize my disappearance and accepted my early vote. It appears I was gravely mistaken and will take care to send a slave to inform the Head of the Senate of my wishes.

Even though I missed the first Senate vote I am glad that my inactivity did not see bills that go against my beliefs go through.

OOC: I was extremely busy in the last 2 weeks that I had very little time to get involved, but now that the new year has come and gone, I will have more time.

OOC: Welcome aboard, Germanicus.

Re: Taking disagreements to the Senate. You can call for a vote or a show of support whenever you want. However, legally it has no effect. From an OOC perspective, the other Consul is under no OOC legal obligation to bend to the Senate's wishes.

IC he isn't either, because only a formal Law has the official IC backing of the Senate and has a formal legal obligation. Votes called outside the period for Laws have no legal jurisdiction IC or OOC, and no Consul is obligated to follow them. So I'm not sure what taking a disagreement to the Senate would achieve.

Well, it doesn't need to have any legal effect. Just an agreement between the consuls to follow the senate, whatever they choose. That way they have a last resort if a compromise cannot be reach.

Okay guys, I've been pretty lenient because its been Christmas and gridlock on day one is ridiculous, but I've got to get this moving again. So I am giving the Consuls 48 hours from now to publish a bill.

ooc: I say that we elect a dictator for the first turn, in order to stop the collapse of the State.

OOC: The bill has been mostly written, now I'm waiting for Ekolite to be online and change what he wants, show me, and we will probably be done as soon as that happens.

lol christos, and who would that be?

OOC: I'll let you fix yourself - Pannonian raiders into Dalmatia (that is part of Helenia - the province which Macedonia is part of).

Seems Macedonia is in Hellenia as from the map in the first page.
Dalmatia is Illyaria .

Yep. Macedonia, Greece, and Roman Illyria have been conflated into one big Hellenia province. Dalmatia is part of Hellenia.

I vote for Christos for Dictator for the first turn. Caesar is competent enough.
