Modern Indo-European I'd trust Bill with my language any-day!

Yes Portuguese and Spanish aren't the same, if you tell this word (embaraçado) to both, they will react differently.
But to the forum, the language should be 0's and 1's. YES BINARIAL CODE!

Well, the rabidly nationalistic speakers of Croatian-Serbian (-Bosnian-Montenegran ) call these different languages, but they are identical. Portuguese and Castilian are very similar, but not identical.

I know what you mean, I love looking at random packages of various commercial products and seeing "Croatian", "Serbian" and "Bosnian" as different languages, where in 3 paragraphs of text, only 2 letters are different, at most.

Then again, rabidly nationalistic Moldovans also like to claim that they speak the "Moldovan" language, and even made a dictionary "translating" it into Romanian. I would REALLY like to get my hands on a copy, after seeing it at a friend's house. It would make for some amazing laughs. Imagine a dictionary with almost every word being identical to its "translated" form...

The world is a strange place! :D

I think English, German and French are the option i'd choose for 'official' languages.

Ok choose your masters - would you prefer the Americans, Chinese or Russians?
Personally i'll stick with Europe.

Main Languages should be English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Polish.

That reflects all the countries with large amounts of population.

Everyone else should imo teach their kids one of those languages in school, or spend money translating it themselves.

keep dreaming, bro

Let's see... 42 M in Poland. 5 M speakers in UK, Ireland and Germany, another 1 M from the rest of the EU and another 2 M from Belarus and Ukraine. Not to mention that quite a bit of slovaks also speak Polish.

That is roughly the same as Italian and Spanish.

your statement falsely implies that people would care to learn a language just to speak to eastern europeans.

italian's way better; they don't put mark on their l's and c's like easteuros.

Good choices I'd choose self-determination :D
European 'self determination'? Because British 'self determination' ended with the empire.

Cold War is over, Davo.

So it would be between the US and the Chinese.
Nah your forgetting that Russia can still excert alot of pressure onto it's neighbours, and the E.U is a great counter balance to it's ability to do that in Europe.

huh? the UK and Ireland? Or are you implying that they are not "in Europe"?

Sadly, my friend, in Ireland the majority speak English, but a lot also speak:*

Irish
Polish
Korean
Cantonese**
and German.
This is only first languages, though. :p

*respectively, of course
**Don't know why, they just do

2 M from Belarus and Ukraine.

If you are counting speakers not in the European Union, you should choose Russian. It is the largest Slavic language.

I have sympathy with TheLastOne36. This is the 21st century, and the EU includes much of eastern Europe now, and aims to include all of Europe. Extra veneration of regional languages just because they are western has to stop. French in Europe is just a regional language now, as is German, not to mention Spanish and Italian. If French, Italian and Spanish are considered, there is no reason why Polish shouldn't be.

The inhabitants of western continental Europe need to get over themselves. They are just one bit. This is the same arrogant ideology that has the two capitals between France and Germany, and awards the "Charlemagne prize" for the person who does most to promote "European" unity.

Well here's some news for you deluded ones, the Tsar of Russia's European dominions were nearly three times larger than Charlemagne's. Charlemagne's were about the same size as the Ottoman European dominions and the lands governed by the ruler of the Rzeczpospolita. So let's make the Charlemagne prize third tier, along with the new Suleiman the Magnificent, Nero and Jogaila prizes. We can give Adolf Hitler, Napoleon and Tsar Peter prizes to second tier winners, and finally a Joseph Stalin prize to the man who does most, since Stalin controlled more of Europe than anyone in history.

I voted Esperanto.

Seriously, I have no idea why it never caught on, it's easy to learn, easier than any other language and would make traveling a hell of a lot easier if countries began to make it a part of their school curriculum.

you look like a eurotraitor with your cute little damnyankee avatar.

Yeah "Liberty or Death" really cute. Euro Trator? I'm British I'm more American/Canadian/Australian/NZ than I'll ever be European.
