Dutch, german, spanish are also ugly and its used in the european union, whats the prob of esperanto?
There was a little mistake in your sentence, I corrected it for you.

French, german, spanish are also ugly and its used in the european union, whats the prob of esperanto? I think its a matter of being used with it, just like english, we are used to it because of the music and movies, but its not fair that english dont have to learn others languages, so Esperanto would be a new language for everyone without exceptions, my grandfather said years ago that Esperanto is a Universal language, more than english, but noone use it.

there's your problem.

So the English are ignorant about other languages - their problem.

Esperanto is pretty ugly and it fails as an universal language easy for everyone to learn.

As I said - English for now since is the most widely spoken 2nd language and later perhaps some sort of simplified Latin. If for no other reason than to convince the American fundies that the EU really is a resurrected Roman Empire, the Beast from Revelation :crazyeye:

I wouldn't want to learn Esperanto. It has no history no nation or tribe behind it. It is an artificially constructed langauge from some fussy old proffessor. I'd rather learn German or French (But i'll never do because I'm ENGLISH) - because they are rooted in an ancient culture.

Esperanto is ugly and the resurrected proto-indo-european sounds like a tribal muttering of some savages.

Savages! Savages! Barely even human!

English should be used for the time being, but gradually we should develop some reasonable form of Latin to be reintroduced as the official language in the empire Union.

Latin has nowhere near the vocabulary necessary in this time and age. The new words that would have to be introduced would pretty much make it just another conlang, and a lame one at that.

there's your problem.

? well I would like to know how the people started to learn languages when nobody was using it, and I'm refering to any language.
You confuse between the most spoken language to the most logical one and equal for all.

This is a rather pointless argument, I feel- being mechanically equal does not make something better. Simply because there are some native speakers of English does not make it insuperior as a candidate for an international language, simply because it would give them an advantage. This isn't a contest, after all, it's about establishing a useful tool for communication.

Edit: It's also worth noting that Esparanto is only "equal" in the context of Europe; internationally, it favours speakers of European languages over those of non-European languages.

Ugh, that dark-blue font is almost unreadable with black forum skin. I have to highlight it to make anything out. Not a good way to communicate, mang.

...kinda like this language debate! Use whatever works. :3

You gotta be kidding me. :p

Anyway, Classical Latin IS in fact a constructed language. Only a much older one than most (all?) of the others we're familiar with today.

How about all the languages that are used by 10% or more of the population?

English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish.
We already played the "fix the percentage of the population so that your language gets in just above the threshold" game.

Hmm...
"All the languages that are learned as a second language by 10% of more of the population" makes quite a lot more sense to me...

Oh, and what Dachs said. :p
