Let's be real

There is no Intelligence in governance, Artificial or otherwise.
Unless Trump is really skynet and is trying to start WWIII to wipe us all out.....

The corporate and governance directives are the AI scripts and we execute their programs for reward. Not everyone is a subject but everyone is subject.
We've been executing scripts created by government and corporate bureaucracies since before the advent of AI. In some sense we've been liberated since we've managed to offload that execution to the machines. I do not calculate my taxes by hand following a prescribed algorithm any more, but enter some numbers into TurboTax.

There's no AI dude. There won't be AI for decades.
The fact that AI is in certain ways stupider than humans does not make it not AI.

It's time to go outside dude.

It's not AI. Tax software doesn't qualify as intelligent anymore than a microwave oven or a roomba. Was my calculator in grade school in the 80's "intelligent"?

Machines are tools as they have been tools since the dawn of man.

Suggesting "they" are using us is silly anthropomorphizing probably stemming for some sort of strange repressed spiritual impulse. There is no "they" anymore than my car or dishwasher can be called they.

You aren't qualified to say what is and isn't AI. I'm probably not either, but as someone with a Computer Information Systems degree + tech industry experience I'm closer to being qualified than you are.

Tax software is AI, yo. That's the way it is, deal with it.

What would happen if your tax software went skynet?

Considering that's apparently not a real thing (I googled it) and we didn't learn fictional things at my university, that isn't something I'm qualified to answer.

edit: but based off wikipedia, that would definitely count as AI.

How long until a Smart Toaster becomes self aware and tries to wipe out humanity? After all a toaster is just a death ray with a smaller power source....

Glad you have a nice job, doesn't make you less wrong.

That really doesn't help explain what this is supposed to be about.
The desire to be smart combined with the desire to be mysterious and 'in the know'. Not saying Hygro isn't smart nor do I want to insult him, I've met him irl and he's a likable chap, but he can do better than this.

Ceri, Alexa, garmins, Stockfish, they aren't AI, they don't think, they are combinations of dictionaries and calculators, they aren't anywhere close to AI. Sorry Kurziwelians, daddy ain't coming yet, perhaps not in your lifetimes.

Glad you have a nice job, doesn't make you less wrong.
Zelig is even more qualified than I am, and he would also agree. You don't get to define what "AI" means. Sorry.

Dude "AI" is not intelligent, roaches are intelligent, pigeons are intelligent. Computer programs cannot think, they process what we give them like a toaster processes bread. Like I said I'm glad you and Zelig have nice jobs and degrees but you're not creating gods, sorry.

Some programs can 'learn' (to use the term loosely) a little, but only within the parameters we give them, still not fundamentally different enough to call intelligent even on the level of a plant or fungi.

AI doesn't control the world, that's some conspiracy gobbledegook. Yes most stock training is computer driven, computers are analyzing us and trying to make predictions, if a genius created an algoryhthm to guess who you'd be best off marrying that made you happy ever after the genius would be smart, his software however sophiscated would be software.

Actual AI does not exist. Maybe some bs 'weak AI' but calling it a rose doesn't make it one.

The rosy smell is all in your mind, call it virtual reality if you will... you may be getting off but your mate is not really there.

Even an outdated computer can process information far faster than the smartest human, let alone a cockroach. But we don't even have to go there, as the definition of AI is not 'living thing'.

I never said they 'control the world'. Where did I say this?

Okcupid, among others, already does stuff like this, and it's only getting better. I'm not even sure where you're going with this.

What exactly are you doing here? Tilting at windmills? You seem to be saying 'there is no such thing as AI because none of our AI are advanced enough to think just like a human'. Nobody is arguing with you. You just don't understand what 'AI' means, to begin with.

The rosy smell is all in your mind, call it virtual reality if you will... you may be getting off but your mate is not really there.

Again, who are you arguing with?

What the heck makes you so confident on your knowledge of where the cutting edges of AI research lies? Are you tinkering with the google machine learning programs that they use to perform complex tasks like city driving? Narz Warz was kinda fun but it it ain't exactly on the cutting edge of software development.

I took a 4000-level machine learning class. I know just enough to realize that it's a really deep field with very heavy theory. I don't know what the latest and greatest advances in the field are doing but it ain't the same thing as Tax-Prep software.

Yeah. Not only does he not know what 'AI' means, to begin with, but he isn't aware of how far we've come.
