Let's be real

Machines have agency in that they are causal agents. They don't have sentience, they aren't scheming, and "the AI" is not the kind of AI we already have maintaining processes as that does not exist.

Hygro, stop getting stoned and finish your degree.

I just acquired a busted microwave oven. If I can't fix it I'm thinking I might see about weaponizing the magnetron tube...but I will make sure no AI gets control of it.
Not espionizing it?

The interwebs has changed the world and it's very exciting, so was the printing press and radio. 'They' arent agent, they're tools
Well very strictly speaking "agency" is a fictional concept and there is just cause and effect. So there may be reason to give objects agency for the purpose of illustration or better understanding of a specific angle.
And it is not like anyone decided "This is how the modern world looks like, feels like and works." It pretty much just happened to us.

Finish your degree.

'They' arent agent, they're tools

You should really look at that Marx quote I posted. In any case, though, what makes you think tools cannot be causal agents?

Man you wish I needed to be stoned to write this. I'm just that lit.
It's not you, its the machines, this thread is the product of artifical intelligence, such a masterpiece could not have been the product of a mere human brain.

A human brain is a machine.

I've missed my past few firmware updates.

Are you sure it's just a few? If you aren't diligent about that the next thing you know you can be a whole revision behind and start having compatibility issues.

Actual AI does not exist. Maybe some bs 'weak AI' but calling it a rose doesn't make it one.

That's what the Quarians thought just before the Geth rose up.

Are machines in control? Maybe. Are they controlling things intentionally (with intrinsic intentionality)? No. Are they conscious of the fact that they are controlling things? Probably not, or at least mostly not.

/thread?
