I don't know if the guy is right or not, but I've always said I do believe that liberals do think what they are doing is best for the country. Dick Gephardt, for instance. Pretty much the poster boy of the left wing back in the day. But... a good and honest man who wanted to do right by Missouri and the country as he saw it. I'd never insult him by thinking otherwise.

You do realize, don't you, that that whole "unpatriotic" thing is a big red herring, right? It was never something conservatives really accused liberals of. Yeah yeah, you can find a few radio hosts saying it, big deal. I guarantee you if I listened to Randi Rhoads enough I'd probably have a lot of ammunition too.

What it was was rather brilliant intentional marketing. Say something enough times and loud enough and people will start to believe you. So Democratic politicians at every opportunity screamed about how they were being accused of being unpatriotic when in reality there weren't. But it resonated with voted and made people feel sympathetic towards them.

Going to have to disagree there. As someone who didn't make a secret of the fact I was voting for Kerry in 2004 I didn't need to turn on the radio to be called unpatriotic. It was coming right from people's mouths to my face.

Randi Rhoads is an idiot, FWIW. I don't mean she's bad or that I don't agree with her sometimes. I mean that her actual intellectual capacity is questionable.

I'm sorry but the unpatriotic line got thrown around all the time by the media and politicians. So much so that it didn't engender sympathy for Democrats. In fact it caused the opposite. I remember all of the unpatriotic slogans and quips people would throw around at my high school and around town when politics came up.

Sorry but your remembering of this is way off. The unpatriotic calls started after 9/11 and continued unabated till the landslide election of 2006.

And yeah as an anti-war outspoken liberal, I got insulted regularly. I'm clearly not American enough and don't support the troops. Despite the fact that my father is one of those troops deployed to war at the time.

It was a really troubling time, a low point of political discourse. I think it even tops right now honestly.

But I don't think thats a reasonable if. The liberal mind is capable of screwing up a lot but I don't think it competent to gain permanent acendency.

I've never had a problem with evolution. I don't pretend to understand all that God has done. Maybe evolution is just a tool he used. I don't sweat the small stuff. Maybe some humans are evolved from apes. I dunno. Maybe some were created separately. I dunno. Maybe they intermarried. Perhaps that explains some of the genetic differences.

And maybe conservative atheists have good genes but incorrect views in someways.
