Thlayli, I've been wondering for a while (Or maybe I forgot :p). Is the Assemblum Popularum Veritasium based in Kallamas or Veritas?

Most of the bureaucracy and the Provincial Assemblums are in Kallamas, and they do the day-to-day running of the country. But the High Assemblum, or Assemblum Popularum Veritasum, is in Veritas proper. They only deal with the lofty, and/or important things. And if Kallamas can't solve a problem, it refers it to Veritas. So the A.P.V kind of acts like a Supreme Court and President.

And if one Assemblum gets killed for some reason, the other can take over. ;)

Kings and Commanders

"Oh heavenly ones/Bless my march/Miss not my hand/When drawing bow/Oh spear, oh hand/The One guides thee/He guides us all/He guides us all/He guides us all."

Early Veritasan War Chant, circa 250 P.D.

"Kehexou was a meeting point and a turning point. Khemran and Veritasan cultures mixed and were absorbed by the Kehex, and the people turned to the East, even as the leaders turned to the West. In conflict between will of the people and will of the leader, the masses win."

-Telemaii Chrialia, Triumphalist Historian, Summatives.

Part Three:

"So you mean to have us embark on another war."

"High Elder Dominius, that is not my goal in the least. I would hardly call a little action such as this a "war", per se."

"Veritasan blood will be split, nonetheless. Regardless of the cause, do you really think Veritas is in a condition for battle, especially so soon after Cendrian?"

"It will not take more than one thousand, at the least. Surely a Falchioni contingent can be spared from the garrisons in the west?"

"This will be viewed as yet another gambit for imperialism, and Khemri will not like it. And you speak freely about the fall of an established dynasty. We all know that kings do not topple easily."

"Even if you take their families hostage," one Elder joked to mild amusement.

Delagani shrugged. "It's the loss of Veritas if you won't support a coup in a nation that should be our natural ally."

High Elder Dominius leaned forward.

"Let me make myself perfectly clear, Stratikrator. Veritas will not commit troops to action in Kehexou. If the Mayanas dynasty will topple as easily as you say, so be it! We will welcome the new change. But if Veritas is seen as the instigator of a failed coup in Takrau, then Kehexou will merely join the leagues of our enemies. It is the will of the Assemblum that we wait."

Turning on his heel, Delagani strode out of the chamber.

"Good day, my lords," he spat sarcastically.

A few elderly Assemblymen noted that he didn't include the "and masters" section of the parting. Stratikrator Delagani, as anyone could tell you, served no master but Veritas.

The scholar pointed to a small table, with three decomposing documents, one bronze inscription, and a ring lying under a sheet of glass.

"Using the most accurate sources, we have pieced together a crude timeline of the events that occurred in the Second Rebellion. In the early spring of 1102 P.D. Terias Gayanax left Salvation with Veritasan gold. He arrived one month later, avoiding a storm that ravaged the eastern coast of Kehexou. From these court documents, this personal memoir, the date on this coronation ring and the plaque here, which originally stood at the base of a statue in Old Takrau, we have narrowed our margin of error to one month."

Spring 1102: Terias arrives in Takrau, posing as wealthy merchant. Is promptly thrown out of the exclusive merchants guild for impersonating a merchant. Soldiers arrive, and a small scuffle between merchants and troops starts. Minor bureaucrat takes notice. Terias finds widespread dissent against Mayanas Dynasty, but no resistance.

Summer 1102: Terias flees to Soloxau, hearing rumors of a Republican resistance organization. However, said organization engages only in small-scale sabotage, and Gayanax is almost killed in a raid by pro-White Shield militias. Minor bureaucrat reports to Mid-level bureaucrat. Gayanax flees to the south in a small galley.

Fall 1102: An early storm knocks the galley off-course, shipwrecking Terias on one of the more isolated Southern Isles near Kehexou. Destitute and upset, is imprisoned in local jail for tresspassing on a Tenali* plantation while shipwrecked. Convinces wealthy owner that he is Terias by showing his father's coronation ring. Mid-level bureaucrat reports to High-level bureaucrat, who launches an investigation into the "Merchant Rebellion".

Winter 1102: Gayanax spreads his influence over the Southern Isles, where the plantation owners and tenali merchants are already under suspicion for the bogus Merchant Rebellion. Promises lower taxes, and more influence in government to landowners, who support him informally. Rumors sweep through Kehexou proper of an heir to the Gayanax Dynasty.

Spring 1102: The Shield on White (Mayanas Dynasty) orders a mobilization of the army, to crush the Merchant Rebellion (which is now real) and their Gayanax pretender. Advance scouting galleys are sunk by merchant ships, refitted into warships. With the Southern Isles pledging allegiance to him, Terias heads to the Far Coast on the mainland. The colonists supported the Gayanax Dynasty policy of aggressive expansion back in its heyday, and they set up a temporary capital for Terias at Palaxau.**

Summer 1102: Official beginning of the Second Rebellion, (the First was against Khemri) called also the Kehexan Civil War. Terias Gayanax declares himself openly, and forms the new crest of the Spear on Green. The Spear on Green controls the Southern Isles and Far Coast, and the Shield on White controls the mainland and the capital. Veritas pledges "neutrality". Merchants, navy, and rural populace declare for Gayanax, the urban populace remains loyal to Mayanas, along with the nobles and some of the army.

Fall 1102: The Shield on White captures and subdues some of the Southern Isles, with moderate casualties. Meanwhile, The Spear on Green assembles 40 galleys, and lands a force on the northwestern tip of the Main Island. Probes toward Takrau are beaten back, and the Shield on White raises all the army, and recalls the entire Southern Islands garrison force. Gayanax moves slowly to the east, hoping to capture Soloxau, the larges and richest city on the island. The armies prepare for a decisive clash.

Late Fall 1102: The Spear on Green moves toward Soloxau, defended by only 500 men. The garrison refuses to surrender, and Gayanax starts a siege. However, the Shield on White army arrives to the south, trapping the besiegers in between the fortress and a larger force. The Battle of Soloxau began, with Green archers harrassing the advancing flanks of the White spearmen. Archers are driven back with a charge, but stay in good order. White flanks advance, ahead of the center. Gayanax gambles on throwing his spearmen towards the right White flank, moving his archers in between the left and right flanks as a defensive screen. The ploy works, and the left flank fails to aid the right flank, continuing to advance to relieve the city. As a result, the right flank is routed by superior numbers, and the center exposed in the rear. Gayanax cuts off the advancing flank from the center under Mayanas...and Green banners appear over Soloxau, the Republican resistance finally pulling off a successful riot against the small garrison. White forces retreat in disorder to the capital.

To be continued post-update...

*Tenali is a large, wholesome, largely tastless fruit. It is ground into a paste very useful for cooking, and also serves as a cheap food for the poor. The Southern Isles are divided up into Tenali plantations, with wealthy, reclusive owners controlling large tracts of land.

**Iggy, you never named the city on the mainland that Kehexou has, so I did it for you.

hmmm orders.. I'll be sending them right away :) I hate having to PM them :p

Orders are coming soon, Iggy. Since you already approved the regime change, I'll assume that Gayanax is in power, ok?

From: Veritas
To: Kehexou

While we welcome a closer alliance with the Kehex peoples, we do not want a return to the aggression you once had against Khemri. I hope we are understood.

Good that Republics are spreading in the world. :) At least I approve of your efforts in that field, Thlayli. ;)

EDIT: Orders in as soon as I have made (and consumed) dinner...

OOC: Note to self, do not allow Veritasian merchants in Guangfei. Republics = Evil ;) Monarchies are the way to go, after all, aren't benevolent monarchy the ideal government? :p

Yeah, sure. Anyway, orders sent.

Trade goods pouring in from north! Time for some boom times, yay! :D I never knew peace could make me this happy! I guess all play too much "war" to really cherish the peace. I mean, the only times we wish for peace in civ is when we're recuperating in between wars.

You deceive no one. ;)

Hey, I have some Nkondicrystalism to stomp out. ;) Gotta keep the Church intact, you know. I bet Veritas would not like having schisms in their Church, eh? Maybe I could arrange that... *insert evil laughter*

EDIT: And that part about me writing my nation name incorrectly? I blame penguins! :mischief:

Final story. Orders long been sent

The Davian Church of the One

-“Upon this earth lies just three faiths: the faith in the old, the faith in the new, and the wrong faith.”- Cruzcn Hirdas, 1st high priest of The Davian Church.

Upon this day, May 13, some eleven hundred and fourteen years since the dawn of time, that there are irredeemable disputes that lie between the Veritasian Church of the One and those churches that lay within Davar. Following the widespread work of St. Pire, we believe that those differences within our churches are too wide to be bridged by any means by the Veritasian clergy. We, therefore, are going forward with our plans to separate both the scholarly teachings and the belief of the Davian Church and those of the Veritasian one.

Within the Church of the One’s teachings lie many “missing sections” of information that we cannot , in an good graces, continue to accept. These “missing sections” first came into conflict with the arrival of Saint Pire in the old Hypandium village of Sychos. First coming into contact with the Sychosians when he was stranded from his army unit some years before, the man and his followers would work tiresly over the next years to spread the “true word” of the fait.

Linguistics used in this Article: Within this article lie many words of Hypandium and Davian origin that many people outside of the regions are unfamiliar with. Listed here are the most common words and their origins.
-“God”- An old Hypandium word literally meaning “Great Father.” Now used to refer to the One more commonly within Davar.
-“Lord”- Another Hypandium word meaning “One Above”. Used interchangeably with “God”.
-“Añendo”- Davian origin meaning “rebirth.” Title of the Fourth Doctrine.
-“Depreander”- Davian origin meaning “to dirty”. Title of the First Doctrine.
- “Heaven”- Hypandium origin stemming from Heayv-vean “Land of trees.”. When the Hypandiums were first nature worshippers, the “Land of Trees” were their concept of Paradise. The word is used within Davar instead of Paradise.
-“ Basyan”- Old Davian origin, taken form the word “Basyaca”- “High Priest”. Originally fell out of favor when the first Kali initiated the Free Religion laws back in the ancient days. Now used for the head of the Davian Church, The Basyan.
- “Sin”- Hypandium word standing for “deed”. Used to represent anything that a person does that goes against the Church’s teachings.
- “Saint”- Davian acronym coined by Cruzcn Hirdas from the words “San ando iver nerl tambu” meaning “one who believes in the extreme.”

The Davian Church of the One’s Doctrine of Faith-

- In the beginning there was only empty space where the earth stands now. But all was not as empty as it would seem- there was life. No one is sure how or what God embodies, but the fact itself is that God existed before time itself.
- The Lord, being as man is today, grew lonely within his heavenly confinement. He thought for a millennia, deciding upon how to create the life that lies within this world. The world itself was created over a stretch of five days. The first day God created time and space itself, hence “the first day”. The first day was followed by the second, in which God created the Sun and the stars into the skies. One day later God created the earth, separating the seas from the land. The fourth day God created life, multiplying it across the world. And finally, after much thought, God created man on the fifth day. His reason for doing this is simple, as he put much thought into how to create an intelligent life: he based it upon himself. Thus man is the earthy reincarnation of God.
- As long as man has existed, The Lord has existed above us. Man was first good, and God rewarded man with eternal life. In unrecorded times man was small in numbers and was concentrated within Paradise alone. Yet over time man grew to posses an evil side. After many years of putting up with man’s misbehavior God threw him out of Paradise and onto Earth.
- After many years God had forgiven man and set up the terms for his readmission into heaven: man must simply atone for his sins. God also decided to lift the punishment of mortality of man by allowing him to be reborn if he had not purged his soul.
- Despite the fact that God has allowed admission into heaven, the human population on Earth shall never run out. God continuously creates more souls and allows those already in Heaven to return to the earth.
- The soul is an extension of God’s being on earth. Depending on how man acts, his soul either becomes cleaner or dirtier. By committing good deeds a man’s soul can become cleaner, and vice versa.
- Only by cleaning his soul can a man enter Heaven.

Cathedral

Some ten years after the death of Saint Pire, the great Cathedral was underway. The Saint, first to be declared by Cruzcn Hirdas, had passed away in his sleep some ten years after first stumbling across the old village of Sychos. He lived with an old preacher for some five or six years, studying with the man until the preacher passed away. After that the Saint had began his travels. He would tour all over Davar, spreading the word and gaining converts. By the time of his death the man would personally have a following of around twenty different ministers and preachers.

Following the man’s death the word was spread even more rapidly. The preachers traveled the country, and to an extent, the neighboring lands and gathered money to construct a new cathedral. They purchased the lands, some twenty acres, in the coastal city of Ardan. The city, founded just around one hundred years earlier, was tiny at the time. Only around 400 people lived within the city limits; while some hundred years later the population had skyrocketed to 10,000.

The Cathedral was completed in the next years and became the headquarters of the Davian Church. The building includes some of the largest gardens in the Davar.
