LINESII- Into the Darkness

Hmm.... Well there are just a few small nations in the way ;)

But I'll start fortifying next turn just in case

More foreshadowing.

I sit in the darkness of the throne room. It is dangerous, some might say, but it is what I must do this night. The only flicker of light comes from a small door set in the side of the room, barely noticeable in the day. A torch is burning in the hallway beyond that door, and I know what it means. He has come to give me news, news that may change the fate, not only of Kehexou, but also of the entire world.

The door creaks open, a short man, bald and fat, walks in. It is not who I expected. Has the ambassador fallen ill? Does he send a proxy in his service? I do not like this turn of events, but there can be no doubt of the news he bears. The man turns to me and walks towards the throne, all the while smiling a toothy grin. His bow is slight, hardly a nod, far above his station, above even the ambassador’s station, but it matters little.

“Your majesty. I see you have stayed up late to hear what news my master sends you. I am glad it is as he said it would be. I did not desire to have to wake you myself.” He laughs, as if he has made a joke. It is not the time for humor.

“Your master the ambassador. What news does he send me, that he could not some himself?” I know the answer, and it is as I have suspected since this man entered my sight. The ambassador has not fallen ill.

“He has, ah, left, your majesty. This night, in fact. A ship took him from Takrau, bound for Unchete and beyond. He had to return, his nation is always in need of him. He has trusted to me his information.” At this he lowers his voice and began to whisper. I bend my head to listen to what this man has to say, though I know what it is that will be said. In the darkness, it feels as if the whispers reverberate around the hall and that all in the palace might hear.

His words confirm my thoughts. This news is old news, and it is new news. It is news that will alter the world forever, and I alone now hold it. I alone, and the ambassador, and the ruler who sent him, and this short, fat, bald man. It is a pity for this man that the ambassador had need to leave so quickly. He finishes speaking, and I raise my head from his whispers, now sitting in the air between us. “You may go,” I hear myself say.

“Thank you, your majesty.” Those will be his last words before my own betrayal. Fittingly ironic, I suppose. As he strides towards the door, I utter but two words in a piercing voice that cuts through the darkness of the hall like a knife. “Seize him.” Six guards pour from the darkness at the far end of the hall.

The short, fat, bald man turns to me, eyes wide with surprise. “This secret is large enough for only three hearts,” I murmur, “And yours is not one of them.”

Even more Foreshadowing:

So, hows life Suwapa?
Meh, Same old same old, but the peoples confidence in me has really gone up.

Can I assume that it is no longer allowed to send/change orders? Not that I have a story ready, but I do have an idea.

Not foreshadowing, just me being bored:

It has now begun. The plans I have laid will unfold, for the good of Kehexou or the ill. My husband argues that now is not the time for piety, but the time for further planning, for analyzing and reacting. I say that this is the calm before the storm, and we must enjoy it while we can. Only the will of the Six can alter the course of events before they begin, and it is their will only I submit myself to. Ultimately, he agrees with me. The royal family will make a grand visit to Kehexou’s newest great city, Kexoudau, to see the results of the wonder that unfolded there just before my own birth.

The road is smooth now, and well-worn. I ride on horseback when possible; the constrictions of a litter irritate me more than saddle sores, though the ladies of the court say it is unseemly for a queen to ride in public, before the commonfolk. Stones do not catch in the horses’ feet on this road, for the path is worn smooth by the hooves and heels of thousands of pilgrims and their beasts. I have not yet traveled to Kexoudau in my reign, and it is most certainly time.

The city itself is large, and all new. During the rule of my grandfather, there was only a small village here, and a large orchard owned by a lady from Soloxau. Even now, years after, construction projects rise above the dusty buildings of the city, and a new pier is being filled in at the waterfront. And in the distance, of course, the mountain looms large. Some call it deadly, others holy. I have seen it only once before, and then at the tender age of eight. I have yet to draw my own conclusions, though it seems a sign of conflict among the Six. That is the consensus of the priests in Takrau, if I choose to trust them.

We will stay in the manse of one of the local lordlings, a man once of no stature at all who is all too proud to deny the opportunity to surrender his household to the royal family and take a room at an inn. The manse sits at the new city walls near the water, and the master room has a view of the mountain in one direction and the new temple in the other. For a lord, this man shows a great deal of piety.

The day after our arrival, I pay visits to all of the temples of the city, even the smallest that are hardly more than holes in the wall. Kaxado comes with me, and the boy is blessed as the crown prince in all of the temples of Kexoudau. We come to the largest last. The priest who greets us there is an old man, and frail. He tells me that he lived in Kexoudau even before the mountain. I ask him to tell me his view on the mountain, and he beckons me into his study. Kaxado will be entertained by one of the young priestesses. I have much I wish to hear.

I'd like it if you didn't change your orders. Although it would be nice if you put all of your amendments and original orders into one PM so I don't have to dig around in my PM box.

What's with you and bananas? You had a banana colony on Cuba in LINES also...

Anyway, are you familiar with the history of Exilsium, or would you like me to summarize its history?

It's a tropical fruit, everyone loves tropical fruits. A summary would be quite nice, yes if you had the time.

Before Year 0. The people who will become Veritas are defeated and flee to their island. This develops into part of their religion, how they were banished by the One for their sins.

Year 912- Massive earthquake strikes Veritas, many ships are swept away in a Tsunami.

A few thousand people land on the island that Exilsium's current capital is on. They form a new society and become convinced that they have been once again banished by the One for their sins. They build their society again, then after developing for a century or two are discovered by the Citadel and Davar.

They are at first hostile (believing these to be the 'damned' who were left behind, but after a while soften their hardline views.

Since then, Exilsium has been fairly quiet. It has (mostly) forgiven its Valin bretheren in New Veritas and Norvalin for their 'sins' and is now a member of the Valin League, which is a somewhat ineffective organization because of Norvalin's remoteness. But despite practical problems, the Valin nations will stand strong together against whatever threatens them.

Yarrr, many thanks to you and kiwi.

There isn't tropical fruit on Exilsium. Sorry. You'd have to import plants to start growing them. I recommend Myocaca. The Swades can be a bit to... Swade.

yes We have a very healthy tropical fruit program, mango, kiwi, papaya, pineapples but i am leaving and i already sent guidelines for next two or three updates, so if any questions about trade direct them now

Nah, nothing special I'll just encourage trade with your nation in the next two three updates if its okay with you.

yah, i like outside trade

everyone loves tropical fruits

I don't love tropical fruit and will order the death of anyone who does within my realm. So watch it. ;)

Yeah, pineapples are lovely. Mangos, if they are ripe. Bananas... I don't know, they tend to go mushy and inedible. But they are good when in a cake.

Uh, this is spiralling OT, isn't it?

The otehr bit he left out is that Exilsium is ready to attack the Swade colony of Chipland for daring to violate Exilsium's territory.

Kiwis are nice. Most tropical fruit is nice. For some reason I never liked mangos, though.

Mangos taste a bit like pine... Or the smell of pine and other boreal trees. You know, the harpiks or whatever it's called.
