LizNES: As You Like It

updated application in the first page. ...

Player Name: SouthernKing
(Culture Name: Thejans)
Nation/Capitol Name: Huntra (I'd like my city at where the river meets the bay)
Government Type: The nation is led by a council of seven elders (7 is an extremely auspicious number) known as the Council. The eldest among the Higher Council is a de facto head of state, and nominates new elders to the council as members die off or leave.
Subsidary councils can be created by elders if it becomes to unwieldy, creating a sort of basic feudal system.
Culture: Civilized
Religion: Belief in a "force" that manifests itself in all life-forms, it's not organized by any means. Worshiping this force feeds it energy and allows it to maintain balance in the world. Bad events (natural disasters, wars, etc.) are caused by failure of the force to maintain balance.
Military: the most fit and healthy boys once they reach age thirteen are chosen to become warriors. From there. they undergo five to seven years of rigorous training to become whichever type they choose to become (archer, spearman, sailor, etc.). Being a warrior is considered a great honor upon you and everyone you are close to. Naturally, quality over quantity.
Color: midnight blue (hex 191970) would be nice

History: Huntra is the most powerful of the Thejan city-states on the west coast and in the valley of the Westen River. Huntra was once a poor, backwater town, but rose to prominence after an Elder who came to power in roughly [270 RH] led a series of campaigns against a coalition of powerful Thejan city-states to the east and looting and pillaging. Huntra grew rich from the loot. While a sequence of Elders who were less powerful has not helped, and the Thejans remain fragmented, if there is anyone able to unite them it is Huntra.

Hello! Since the image I made doesn't work for some reason I will do my best to describe where I wish to launch my empire. I want to be where the long island thing between Kaiser and Bonefang connects to the main land, if that is still open.

Player: Badunoff
Nation Name: Ukra
Government Type: Monarchy
Leaders:
Shevchius (King)
Domina (Queen)
Pyotrious (Prince/heir)
Polythena (Princess)
Culture: Civilized
Religion: Belief in Spirits
Stability:
Economics: Bank(+Income)
Population: Total(+Growth)
Army: Lots of archers, horsemen, and swordsmen. The king was a great leader of his army in his day. His son, Pyotrious, is determined to follow in his father's footsteps, but the king does not yet feel confident in the leadership abilities of his son, so he designated a fairly small contingent to be commanded by the prince. By the law of irony, the prince's pompous and overconfident attitude should have caused him great humiliation on the battle field and the king had even created a contingency plan to hush up and such mistakes so as to allow his heir to take the throne without having people doubt his abilities when the time came. However, despite the enormous potential for humiliation, Prince Pyotrious led his men to victory in several confrontations with roaming barbarians. This seemed like luck to a lot of the soldiers, general's, and even the kings, because even the most unpredictable factors in battle all seemed to turn out in favor of the prince. Oblivious (or so he appeared) to all this, the prince let his success to go to his head and began strutting around and even started to publish writings on the the art of war. His overconfidence finally caught up with him when he was trapped and outnumbered my an enormous horde of barbarians. His defeat was brutal, however rather than humiliate and discredit the prince, it impressed the entire military by his now legendary maneuvers allowing his men to escape in small parties while the rest held off the barbarians. He lost nearly half of his men and was wounded covering the retreat of another party of his men. Fortunately he was taken for dead and managed to survive that battle. In addition, his actions weakened and slowed the barbarians enough for the King's army to catch up to them and exact their vengeance with ease. Now the small group of soldiers led by the prince are the elite of the elite, for unlike so many before him, the Prince managed to live up to his boasts and become an excellent leader of any army, but specializing in small forces.
Navy: From a young age, Princes Polythena has shown an unhealthy, in the opinion of her parents, interest in the sea. To the terror of her nannies and caretakers, she became very adept at escaping the palace and sneaking to the shipyard and on one occasion even cast off as a stowaway on a trade ship. The kingdom had gone through a week of mourning before the ship returned with the Princess unharmed and undiscovered. The highlight of this seafaring obsession came when the princess was twelve. On a trip out at sea, her ship was accosted by barbarians and the captain was pierced by an arrow in the first minutes of battle. The young princess, legend has it, took the whelm and took charge of defenses, fending off the attack and sailing the ship safely back to port. At present, though it is highly unprecedented, she commands the kingdom's fleet and is widely accepted as the best naval commander in decades.

Sijilamar
Plutocratic Republican Dictatorship (The Wealthy Buys the Votes :scan:)
Culture: Civilized/Semi-civilized (Depending if Ogres are Semi-Civilized or Uncivilized)
Religion: Araneut
Army: Disciplined citizen force, with cycling training based on the month of birth. Volunteers join the Guard and go on Campaign, but drafting and conscripting in times of need is not unheard of. Generally simple spears and slings for the reserves with glaives, swords, javelins and bows for the volunteers.
Navy: A Hilarious Joke

History
Sijilamar is but one of the two or three Daratelite city-states in the mountain ranges. The Daratelii have lived here for all time, and over the years some migrated to the lowlands while others used newly learned herding, mining, and masonry to build themselves strong shelters on the cliffs of the Darateli mountains. With the flames of progress copper, tin, and later iron was demanded by coastal cities dotting the shorelines. And the Darateli obliged, developing vast mines into the heart of the mountains, their cities slowly melding into the cliffs they clung to. It was a long way to reach the coastal cities, and those who fought their caravans, the lifeblood of the highland cities, can become very rich with little fear of retaliation. And so the cities remained small, and outside influence strong.

Sijilamar ended the warbands of the past and installed a new system. Every citizen has to give a few weeks of their time, depending of their month of birth, to training in the ways of war. The legendary dictator Haedrin led his new force and crushed the Ogre bandits, freeing the trade routes and allowing Sijilamar to grow into a great city in its own right, instead of merely a colony of the coast. His program was borrowed by other cities while future dictators maintained the system with much investment while discretely undermining their rivals to the contested Scepter of the People.

Politically, the Scepter of the People is held up to the vote every year of every able bodied citizen. Actually, it was the wealthiest and sauvest politician who wins by buying the loyalty of various mining brotherhoods, merchant gangs, and the volunteers. Often, men of similiar political views join into a single "Bath", known for their propensity to discuss tactics in said private chambers. These Baths fund campaigns- inscripters, criers, dealmakers- to garner support to become elected. Although the political right of the citizens are protected by tradition, every Dictator knows loopholes to undermine support of opposing Baths when needed.

Religiously the most common polytheistic belief is the Araneut pantheon. It is similiar to many others, but it emphasizes the power of Fate, or the Arane. Composed of the song of every free-willed spirit, the Arana punishes the bad, rewards the good, and proceeds to the benefit of itself, and thus, of all. It is not conscious, but it is proactive, and it connects everybody.

The update has officially started, and I am doing my best to fill out this map. Welcome to badunoff, and any other players that are new. If I get all the histories and such in sooner, we might be able to start this thing a bit sooner as well.

Nation+Capitol: Sarhit
Government Type: Theocratic Monarchy
Culture: Civilized
Religion: Nezerism
Army: Small army of enlisted men. Most peasants on the edge of the borders are used to dealing with nomad raids.
Navy: Not fully developed yet.

For centuries, the Massadar Plains have been dominated by the Kaalic People, a race of nomads surviving primarily through hunting and minor animal husbandry. Clans would often fight amongst themselves for ideal hunting grounds, and the rulers served also as religious leaders, communicating with the spirits of the dead using complex religious rituals. Greater spirits became powerful enough to fill the role normally left to gods in other cultures. Indeed, there are no traditional "gods" in the Kaalic belief system.

Among the Sarhit tribe, however, a man named Nezer spread his own form of the religion. He claimed to be a direct descendant of the first great spirit, his ancestors being born instead of made like the rest of the world. He explained this gave him a greater ability to talk to the great spirits. He also explained that the first great spirit was the only spirit that survived from the last incarnation of the world, and when the humans no longer listen to their ancestors, they will recreate the world anew.

His followers continued to wander, the descendants of Nezer leading them. A prophecy arose, that the Sarhit should settle in the land where the spirits whispered through the plants. This land ended up being on the banks of the Ildren River, where the roots of the hallucinogenic plant "Nolcern" made the leaders believe they had a greater communication with the gods. Nezer's many descendants became the highest class of the society, with those purest of blood (through extensive incest) becoming the kings and queens of the new city-state, and those of less pure blood becoming priests. Outside of the city, life remains fairly close to the old ways. Agriculture is gradually entering the society, but most peasants continue to maintain large herds of cows or goats, or even survive through hunting on the edges of society.

I thought it was because Terrance is leading a race of Ogres.

From my understanding, it was mostly slang to refer to the local barbarians, based off of the mountain range they reside in. That is not to say that your people can't be convinced they are of a different race then humans. ;)

And welcome momo1000!

Have to wait until I can get some time at my computer. Could someone tell me what the climate is like around my spot, I can't see it on my phone. Probably have it in tomorrow in the morning.

It's in a 'Temperate' zone, although very near to a 'Savanna' (down the south-west branch of the river) and near a 'Mediterranean' zone (down the south-east branch of the river).

Hey, they are stupid, ugly, fight and squabble, and are suspiciously taller than us civilized folks. Clearly nonhuman ogres! :p
