LK154 - CCM - Bablyon

lurker's comment:

Northern Pike, you only have to open the biq with the editor. Use editor version 1.00 that comes with C3C vanilla -if you use editor 1.03 (the version of the editor after the last patch) and change something in the settings of the biq, C3C looses the option to create scientific leaders due to a bug in the patch.

Hi Civinator. I know about the scientific leaders bug, but after experimenting a little bit with the editor, now I am getting them regularly with modified .biq files.

All I had to do is open the .biq in the editor and tick the 'Default Game Rules' in the 'Scenario Properties'. Then, whenever I start a new game with that .biq I just make sure the 'Allow Scientific Leaders' option is selected.

Verified on an edited version of TETurkhan's map, and on at least v.1.7 of CCM (I just changed some colours/names).

For both I have still the save games with the Sc. Leaders.

I don't know if it depends on the version of the game one is playing on.

(I am playing on the Steam's Complete version and used the default game Editor, v.1.03 to make the changes.)

1787 AD (11)
No fighting, but a big stack just crossed the border.

I establish all the missing embassies that I can.
I sign peace with Germany. I then immediately steal there world map, and succeed. There exploration has been horrible, but we know a little more of the map. I also see why they are so weak. There are several British cities with German names.
(IT) We killed a villista, and lost and exploring ship. (70-32)
France and Israel sign an MPP. That just complicated things - I was thinking of France as the next target to be an easy one while we get the rail-net up.

We captured Cuzco gaining the obsolete Great Library.
We captured 4 supply shipments, and a worker.
I burn an artist to expand the borders.

Kish is founded. With border expansions it will gain two forests with deer.

Summary:

Rail-net: Not much being done yet. We have one crew near Babylon that has connected just three cities so far. The heavy rail work is still waiting for faster workers, and self-built workers. That crew is slowly making its way toward former Scandinavia.

Nubia: We still have some standby stacks in case of a flip from former Nubia.

Golden Age: Battlefield Medicine is 1 turn away. We will need to scroll ahead to change it to Blue Ribband.

Second stack: We have a stack by Patras ready to grab one of those behind the line cities. It should be away to walk along the Greek borders and grab some more Incan cities.

A great start against the Incas. And with our GA starting next turn, we have the game well in hand.

Greebley, please note that the Incas' turn-260 settler is visible north of Patras. We'll need to hunt it down before we take their last city.

We should check for tech sales before we hit Enter. We can extract 94 gpt from Britain, for example.

Looking ahead a little, once we eliminate the Incas we'll be in a strong position to steal techs, since we'll be in our GA and 600 gpt will have come back to us from Israel. We'll be able to steal from Israel until they declare war on us, and if we fortify the chokepoint we can probably steal from America too without caring whether they go to war against us.

It may not matter if we have to fight Israel and France at the same time, since we're strong relative to both and getting stronger. It's a pity that the Israel-Indochina war was so short, though.

Oddly, there's still one tradeable tech to come, since no one seems to have discovered Industrialization.

The tech we want next is obviously Steel, for buildable workers. The question is, should we research it or just steal it from America? Does anyone know how likely it would be for a civ with a weaker military (according to the advisor) to declare war on us if we were caught in a safe steal?

Unless they are furious with you, a weaker civ is very unlikely to declare war.

It all depends on attitude. You can increase it with an active trade or a gift (100g. gives a bonus for several turns).
You can decrease by enslaving their units (the penalty lasts several turns), trespassing, etc.

IIRC only a MPP gives a 100% chance for a civ to not declare on you.

The type of steal affects only the possibility to succeed, and not whether or not the civ will declare in case of a failed attempt.

Forgot to post this last night:

That is where you and I are on totally different pages. I don't want a two front war until we have a thin rail-net up. 3 cities connected doesn't qualify at all.
We still have several techs to go in order to start mass rail building.

My large strategic goal is to wipe all civs on our side of the choke point before moving on. A war with USA at this point would be a waste IMO.

I am confused by this comment. I thought steel was double speed workers, and explosives gave us building workers. Did I misread the Civlopedia?

In CCM 1.8 workers come with tech "Steel" and the worker´s rate is doubled with tech "The Corporation". The text in the civilopedia that workers come with tech "Explosives" is outdated in CCM 1.8.
