Map Trix

Map Trix 2.1.2

the new version 2 map tooltip has a new layout!
  • new styling to match Flag Corps tooltips
  • the overall title now shows the most important thing on the tile instead of the terrain & biome
  • geography section is simpler and less redundant, with the most important features first
  • fresh water indicator moves to the geography section along with flooding, sand, and snow
  • specialists and religion move to a small population table at the end of the tooltip
  • connected settlements move to Flag Corps
i hope you enjoy the new style!

as usual, some info only appears in Verbose mode (middle screenshot). hold Shift to see everything!

i just discovered that Enhanced Town Focus Info is sometimes modifying the Map Trix tooltip when you're on the city screen. the new version shows the town focus type in the title, and ETFI seems to treat it the same way as the tooltips for the town focus chooser. i've let @mallek561 know about the conflict.

new update includes a workaround for this ETFI bug. if that was bugging you, please update!

Hello, recent update is great. If it's possible, I think it would be cool if me, as the player, could have an option in the settings to change these colors to whatever I want. Thanks for all the hard work!!!!

For a color blind person like me, the red and brown are a bit tough to see

unfortunately, the Options interface isn't flexible enough for that. it only has simple inputs like checkboxes and dropdown menus, nothing i could use to show colors or themes.

sorry about that! i never rely on just hue to convey information, so there should be other visual cues you can look for. the red is much lighter than the brown (about double), and the foreground color is different too: white on dark brown for player control, amber on red for enemy control. if that still doesn't help, the text shows exactly which civilization controls the district.

i've also considered using player colors instead of red, yellow, and brown, but i would still need a clear way to highlight enemy units and territory, and i haven't found a solution that i like yet. i could also use my other alert style (amber & black) to highlight enemy-controlled districts. i'll play around with it later and see what sticks.

Zhekoff's Diplomacy banners has a drop down menu for different colors which makes a great way for the player to have some control on customization. Thanks for responding and I hope you can find a solution you like :)

yes, that mod perfectly illustrates the problem i was talking about. it only works for predefined themes, and there's no way to preview the changes. the bigger problem is that optional and configurable features create a lot of extra work, really tedious & error-prone work. i would need to implement the theming mechanism myself, and then design all of the themes, get it working across all of my mods, and then test and maintain it all. i'm just a solo volunteer, so i can only sustain that effort for stuff that i regularly use in my own gameplay or modding.

and i don't need to find a solution, because i'm happy with the current style. i update it occasionally, when i have a new idea to try or a new problem to fix, but it's fine now. i don't need to make it work with player colors. i'll probably add more contrast to help with accessibility, because i care about that, but if it doesn't work out, that's ok too.
