OCC - Immortal

So, ran up yet another OCC game yesterday... and had fun dominating it. Again, not wanting to give out any spoilers, but you will once again find no builders resources anywhere near... Sorry, but I like to deal with what the generator gives us, good or bad.

I decided to (for kicks) spice this one up with Huts & Events. It's been years, and while it didn't turn out that great for me, maybe someone else will be the lucky one...

Decided to hand pick leaders for various challenges...

  • Monte - Great backstabber and promoted unit spammer
  • Shaka - Same reasons....
  • Sitting Bull - Never dies, and will be a real problem stopping his culture victory
  • Stalin - Aggressive wonder-builder we'll need to compete with..
  • Izzy - Another crazy enemy if you don't take her religion early
  • Toku - Promoted attackers and defenders to be a pest...etc

Not expecting that much interest in these tuffer games, but here's my result...

Spoiler :

I LOVE getting illegal promotions on my MGs... They are my most fun units as of late.

No need for Hero units here...

Whoa!
That is a great victory for just one city permanently at war.

Is there some special trick to speed up forest growth the last 140 turns?

Of course, it is called Forest Preserves.... there are a few other tricks for growing them as well for that.

Aye. If possible, chop forests in an X shaped fashion, so there is a bigger chance for regrowth, and don't put roads on the clear tiles.

Part III

Ok, spun up a similar map (this time it came with better resources)... Should give a higher chance to win for those brave enough to attempt... Same opposition list..

So, my results from that part III trial....

Easy-peasy.. I think it's time to step it up to Deity OCC soon...

Spoiler :

Stuck to my old deity-AW tactics for units, and everything else fell into place. Spent most my time fighting the entire world EXCEPT for one friend...

Stopped warring finally at my launch-time, since there was no point in risking something like say... 10 nukes falling on me (ahah). Stalin declared on the same turn my ship landed, so I guess that means his initiative was behind me in our turn-order-set.

I don't like that set-up at all in one of the shots... 1150 AD and only 5 archers defending the capital, with a single warrior, and no real promotions or settled GGs yet...

I like to DoW right from the start and go for those super-elite units over time.... In any case, if that's your style I won't complain, but I have too much AW blood in me...

It's always nice to see things slightly different. It's great (when it works), but when it doesn't?

In any case, I can try to keep Izzy, and put in the other leaders you suggested for the next one.... we'll see how it goes.

My god, time to rant...

Just lost my second deity game in a row due to f&%(ing Religious Vic!

Yesterday I changed out leaders to the line-up you suggested, I also decided to take things to the next level... that way I can always blame you Cantaloup if it failed.

Surprisingly the game seemed much easier than normal. I figured this was a FLUKE, however one thing I was doing a lot better than normal is focusing more in diplo and getting everything to beat the crap out of each other... instead of me just doing the work msyelf...

Ended up pushing a strong big lead, and was an unbreakable powerhouse with my standard promotions... You know the standard MG's that have all run out of promotions already..

Stupid Surry (I think it was him), marches all the way over to the opposite end of the board, and then captures a really crappy city... the last I checked it had only a population of 2! It as so swarmed by enemy culture, there was no point in even keeping it.

Guess what? Izzy then threw the game by being the only one voting in favour for the other runt who was getting his ass kicked... and GG... insta-loss right there. I would have won that one for sure other wise.

I considered that one a fluke, and didn't let it bother me, so I continue this morning... but this time I stick with OCC deity again, but swapped out leaders back to my standard 7 which I am familiar with by now... though I traded Sitting Bull for Boudica, as she is much more opportunistic and interesting for keeping you on your toes early.

Ran a very nice Oracle-Metal-Casting gambit (without needing to be a gambit)... due to moving settler to grab 2 gems...

Again, by the time I upgraded my X-bows to MGs, I had so many promotions on them, I was unbreakable... and techlead by far again...

Same bull#(%@!!!

Just now stupid Stalin wins Religious victory.....

That's TWICE... back to Back... victory robbed. And you know how #(%@ing hard people say OCC on deity is supposed to be.

Maybe I should have paid more attention, so maybe it's MY FAULT!? Yes, I COULD turn off Religious vic condition.... but I TRY to win my games without tampering around with the rule-sets.

After today, I feel like playing scared. I SUPPOSE I could try to AVOID getting any religion what-so-ever to minimize this (yes I am kidding here) but screw it... going to take a break to calm down and stick with Immortal for another couple weeks while I come up with something to counter this.

Part IV

  • De Gaule - US...
  • Monte - Great backstabber and promoted unit spammer
  • Shaka - Same reasons....
  • Boudica - Same...
  • Stalin - Aggressive & wonder-builder we'll need to compete with..
  • Izzy - Another crazy enemy if you don't take her religion early
  • Toku - Promoted attackers and defenders to be a pest...etc

My results for Part IV...

Spoiler :

Always a lot of bloodshed when Boudica is involved...

Had to back-stab my only ally this game, because Stalin tried to pull off a cultural victory on me... I then continued the war against him to make sure I had him crippled.
