[NFP] March Update Video Discussion

Looks like the same combat strength as a normal caravel but almost double the speed. Normal caravels usually have a movement of 4.
important to note that movement speed might not be the base speed. They might have had Great Lighthouse, Bermuda Triangle, a few great Admirals' retire abilities, mathematics at play

I think we already know, editor...

They just can't catch a break can they? First the code is leaked, then they forgot to blur a couple of frames, and then someone decided to spoil everything and release the achievements in advance.

It's like the entirety of Firaxis itself is trying to stop future Civ VI content from being a secret

The two world wonders are a nice surprise. Now we have Petra, Jungle Petra, Tundra Petra, Sea Petra and Marsh Petra!

Marsh Petra is cool.Google is telling me "Mesopotamian Marshes" are totally a thing as well, so not a out of place as I initially thought.

Some of the actual mechanics of zombie mode look cool (like traps/barricades/the spy mission), but what I wanted from the Zombies - a late game 'pandemic' placeholder to shake up the end game - is definitely not coming.

It basically just looks like another early game 'win harder' mechanism for the player - i.e. kill barbarians, make zombies, turn zombies, send against AI.

Portugal could be interesting and I also really like the two wonders. Zombie mode is lackluster for the final mode, could have worked better if earlier.

Did the video feel sped up for anyone else?

And oh, they put a lot of emphasis on the last free update of the season. I wonder if that implies anything ;)?

The thing with this and the highlands map script is that this functionality is really better served by sliders (wet vs dry climate — new vs old world age). Throwing them in as “new map types” when they really just increase the amount of a certain terrain type is not particularly inspiring.

Highlands isn't just Pangea with more hills, though. It also has more lakes, fewer rivers, and no oceans. Lots of land.

I didn't get a good look at the new Wetlands map, but hopefully it's not just Pangea with more marsh.

So the new map is continents with more marsh? That is very... basic and dissapointing. The wonders look nice and Portugal will probably be fine but wow what a whimper to end the pass with.
Probably should have seen this coming. The Highlands map was released right after Ethiopia and played to it's advantage. This map is for Vietnam as it also includes a lot of rainforests and woods as well.

The standard Nau will have 6 movement, since naval units get +1 from Mathematics.
I forget about Mathematics giving that.

Considering how much I reroll, Etemenanki might end up being super powerful, esp if you can have your capital build the Great Bath on a different river from a big, winding one with all tiles in reach of the capital. Though that makes me wonder too - how strongly will the AI prioritize Etemenanki? And will it draw away from how much they prioritize the Great Bath?

Just Imagine tho... Great Bath + Etemenanki as Arabia... *drool*

They gave up on trying to blur things, that'd be very smart if it wasn't for the leak :p

Also, these ships have 4 visibility, don't they?

The music in great the Torre de Belem offers a lot of interesting gameplay choices. Everything else is just kind of dull. Etemenanki is just kind of weird and maybe really good in some really specific situations but can't say I'm really excited about it. Very disappointing but then again I've kind of felt that way about the NFP for a while, particularly as a console player who can't barely finish a game sometimes because of all of the crashes.

IMO that's possible with marsh (w.r.t the new "Wetlands" map), it's less possible for hills. One is a feature (which is usually easy to change with sliders); the other is terrain (which is harder to alter without impacting other things like mountains, etc.).

Portugal: yay.

New Wonders: yay-ish. I mean, yeah, ok, yay. More wonders are always good.

Zombies: well, I was really hoping we’d get Zombies to go with the other wacky stuff in Apocalypse Mode. I mean, if we’re going to have vampires and Cthulhu and the apocalypse, then let’s have Zombies and make it a proper party. So, you know, good. The Zombie design seems a little bit uninspiring - I’d assumed FXS would go more pandemic spread rather than literally units coming back from the dead. But, still, you know, zombies. So that’s a win. Might well end up being fun.

Marsh: I mean, ok.

NFP ending: Sad. Hope they do this again. I actually think NFP has ended up with some pretty good stuff. You can build some wacky fun games with Apocalypse and Zombies and Secret Societies. Mad Max and Carry On Pirates! scenarios / games are awesome. I mean, great having that stuff - no really - but I mostly play just straight “normal” Civ - but even then, yeah, Corporations, Barbarians, maybe Dark Ages and or Shuffle Tech add good new mechanics to the mix. I think most of the game modes could have used a bit more polish, but still all of them are pretty good taken as they are. And all the Civs and other stuff have been awesome too, except for may a few poor balance update changes (at least FXS reverted back some of the amenity changes).

So. Yeah. Happy days. Hope there’s more in the future.

Portuguese unique caravel replacement with increased movement speed and the ability to build each build at least two of some unique tile improvement which can at least be built in neutral foreign territory.
