[NFP] March Update Video Discussion

More importantly: they seem to be able to build this new unique improvement in other civs territories
Not sure if that's the case. In the video it looks like one unit that was able to build the improvement was between a tile owned by Portugal and one in neutral territory. Although it could have been the second one being able to build it because the first one would have had to build it on a marsh or looks like rice, if you could do that. The third was away from any land adjacent to them to build one.

Nice, Portugal seems to be a civ with a very unique gameplay. Will they be able to claim territories on other continents with Feitorias without having to build cities?

Torre de Belém is a cool wonder that fits well with the theme of exploration and colonization, basically this is the second wonder related to colonization (the other is the Casa de Contratación).

Surprised that they included another early wonder. Etemenanki is a nice inclusion. I know someone that will like this, right @Zaarin? :p

Without Notre Dame, at least for now, a boy needs to dream. :mischief:

Can someone explain why Etemenanki is tied with marshes? Is it only because of the new map script? (which only expands number of feature type - something that should be done via sliders) And the second Wonder, well, they tried. I'm really disappointed by the end of NFP.

If it does function similar to the vampire castle (or a similarly strong vein), that's one way to gatekeep it - make it a lot more expensive (one per ship) than a builder.
in the video we can see the portuguese unique caravel with two builder charges, so they can build at least two each

Disappointed they didn't fixed Corporations and Monopolies.
Maybe they'll do that in the patch notes?

I had a hunch this pack would have wonders and a new map. The wonders look cool I like having an earlier way to boost marshes. Wetlands also looks fun. Obviously it'd make most civs struggle more but I think that means a distinct play experience which is what I want in map scripts.
Portugal and zombie mode I don't care much about. Maybe they'll have interesting civ abilities. I liked the other 7 civs and all the other modes (except apocalypse) so I'd say NFP has been an overall great expac for me
If you check the Civ Wiki and look for NFP, you'll see it says two Wonder and one Map.

All Cities are built on the coast
I know It could mean nothing but my guess of Portuguese UA "Can build cities only on the coast" is still in game.

"Oh, pit, here we go again." - Carl Johnson, maybe.

From a game mechanic POV, marsh was one of the last terrain items that couldn't be improved in anyway.

And it seems like Babylon actually sat primarily in flood plains and marshland.

Meh. I'm hoping Portugal has some interesting mechanics as I really wasn't too excited by their inclusion. There's some hope that might be the case I guess.

Zombie mode will probably not be one that interests me. Curious to see what differentiates wetlands script from just a slider...

The wonders are my favourite part of the pack...

NFP will probably end on a low for me, but I'm happy with it overall. Hopefully their use of the word 'season' implies that we're not over yet. Maybe instead of #OneMoreTurn (or #OneMoreBrain) we should try and get #OneMorePack to trend...

To be fair it looks like an islands map where even Babylon has all it's cities built along the coast. :p

Mesopotamia, to be precise, right where the Euphrates and the Fertile Cresent are. It makes sense.

Also, music slaps.

It's the second time they use the word Season.

"Be sure to check back in April as we reveal the final free game update of the season".

At the very least they're intentionally leaving their options open.
So we can ask for less zombies and more aliens (or other scifi/phantasy stuff) for the next season...? :undecide:

wait actually where did you see this in the video? I'm trying to find it

Well, I don't really remember how the UX works in this way, but the Improvement was visible after the boat moved, and IIRC it meant that the buildable improvements were buildable in the destination, so when the boat was in foreign territory.

Not sure at all of course but wouldn't it be cool?

Torre de Belém seem like a must build, if you have some cities in another continent. Etemenanki seems nice if you have a lot of floodplains in a city, but I wouldn't build it for the marsh boost. After all, who keeps marshes?

The map is good enough. More scripts are always welcome.

But if you look at Xanadu at 0:46, you can clearly see it's an inland City.

1. As others pointed out, things like hills and marsh should be controlled with sliders

2. Zombies mode is disappointing. If they couldn’t come up with anything better, they should have just made raging barbs mode.

3. The new wonders strike me as rather uninspired. There are some neat suggestions on civfanatics alone. The new ones boil down to more gold and more science. They don’t seem to do much for gameplay. A free building won’t fundamentally alter my strategy.

4. Hopefully Portugal will be solid.

Overall, feels like a let down.

Save the .... best? .... for last? No? Save something mediocre? Run-of-the-mill? Uninspired?

Not that interested in Portugal, but new Civs are always welcome. The new zombie mode though... not at all interested in it. Seems too simple. I would have rather seen something more complex where it really "simulates" apocalyptic zombie scenarios as seen in films.

Also, I can't stand the hand gestures of Rony Kahana. Makes it very hard for me to concentrate on what she is actually saying : P
