Mickey Mouse In Space -- Disney Buys Lucasfilm

This is good news. Star Wars under Lucas became creepy. It was like an old man dressing up his gown up daughter in kids clothes while slowly brushing her hair, always looking her up and down...

:rotfl:

For the record, I would be behind a prospective Thrawn Trilogy movie, but it couldn't be the first sequel. A lot happens between the end of Jedi and Heir to the Empire. Think we would have to have a Bakura/fall of Coruscant/rise of the warlords movie simply to explain all that? Or could it be crammed into a five or ten minute montage explanation?

Star Wars being in the hands of anyone except George Lucas can only be good.

This is probably true.. maybe they'll do a prequel reboot after releasing 7 :p

I wonder what they'll call 7

Star Wars: Return of the Clones
Star Wars: The Sith Strike Back
Star Wars: The Phantom Jedi
Star Wars: Revenge of Bob Hope

I just wish Thrawn would've won. He was great.

Lacking any real familiarity with the Star Wars EU, I find a direct adaptation of any EU material unlikely.

Yeah, it seems rather out there. Given the reach Star Wars has in the pop culture world, it's bound to be fairly closely tied to the existing 6.

I don't see this as a bad thing. The House of Mouse makes some great movies and has done some great things with acquired, already established IPs.

Try "the opening crawl". My bet is something as simple as that. Possibly some simplification. But "X years have passed, stuff happened in between, a new republic exist."

Thrawn Trilogy was, after all, the first major post-Endor novel; Bakura and the fall of Coruscant came well after it.

I'm seriously hoping they don't use the existing EU garbage. It's truly, staggeringly awful.

Excluding EU bits that have the name "Zhan" on the cover.

The love scenes were just painful. Haydn Christiansen plays an awkward, angsty teenager very well: the rest of his acting not so much.
Don't blame him, it's the script.

The same acting style crops up in Jumper, so it's not entirely George Lucas' fault.

Jumper had a horrible script, too. I thought he was good in Shattered Glass, for example.

Star Wars is where it belongs - with the other fantasy-ish stuff Disney produces.

Can we officially strip SW of the "science-fiction" label now? Please? Pretty please? :yup:

There's potential for Disney to turn Star Wars into a decent franchise if they wrest control of canon from Lucas. A KOTOR2-esque film would be awesome, and the notoriety of the franchise could attract a decent director, ala the Star Trek reboot.

Wait, did you mean that the Star Trek reboot was a good take on the franchise? Because the film was atrocious - the script made no sense whatsoever, so essentially it was a loose collection of sketches, fights, and explosions.

It was the best possible way to go about it, yes.

Which, if it's true, is truly depressing.

I think these uber-series' should really just develop a new line of canon for film adaptation. Rather than reboots or going into a fan-based canon, hire a team of professional writers to really develop a new story that can be adapted to several films.

A man can dream.

(The new Star Trek movie was okay but was an insult to the Star Trek franchise)

Any mediocre episode of TNG beats the crap out of it though.

Yeah I understand the TNG movies buried the franchise, but they didn't have to go full on action movie with it either.
