Bill Gates throws in the towel. I actually feel quite sad. I'll miss his benign demeanour.

Now he's an even better role model for capitalism. I heard an interview the other day where he essentially said (heavily paraphrased here) "Children inheriting billions from their parents isn't a good idea, so the only question is how to do the most good with this money."

I'm not a big Bill Gates fan (or at least, I wasn't before) but for a guy to accumulate this kind of wealth and then devote his later years to spreading it around where it'll do the most good has my respect.

A sad day for Microsoft, but I'm very pleased because it means Bill Gates will be dedicated more time to his charity - a very noble aspiration. IMO, Bill Gates is a great man. Not because he accumulated so much wealth, but because he uses that money wisely, and uses it to help make the world a better place, and influences so many people positively.

Just as an example, I volunteer for an organization that is partly funded by the BMGF.

I dont see why people have such a problem with bill gates. I know he sorta and i mean vaguely copied his GUI on Macs. But other then that hes a great guy i think.

He gives millions and million, sometimes billions of dollars to charities every year. And he even has his own.

I heard on the radio today another billionare is GIVING 30 BILLION IN STOCKS to the bill and melissa gates foundation. This is a huge amount for any charity. I am very happy about that.
