[mod] Warlords: Total Realism 2.3a

no the .exe file won't install it says civ 4 is not installed on my comp. thats why i was looking for it in zip so i could just extract it into the mod folder i also tried the visa modpack and got the same thing... any help here would be gr8

i have civ 4 gold installed and have been playing it for about a month why want it install? i got the fall from heaven 2 mod to work and it is great but the others just won't inatall how can i get them to install for me and work right

Latest installer for TR should work fine with Civ 4 Gold. You just need to go for "custom install" and point the installer manually. TR is certainly compatible with Civ 4 Gold.

well i tried to install TR but it still seems to think i don't have civ on my comp. but this time i got the option to continue installing after i got the error message so i did and it of course could not find the civ 4 warlords mod folder so i browsed and found it and told it to continue... it installed but does not show up in the load mods options in the game and twhen i click on 1 of the TR icons on the desktop windows has to search for the file civ4warlords.exe what can i do to make TR work with civ 4 warlords i also tried the patch after install but i won't install at all

Well, you had the mod installed SOMEWHERE. Now you can find it (most likely in the path you pointed to, the folder "Total Realism") and just manually copy it to Warlords/Mods folder if it is not sitting there. Then you're set.

oh my fault for not mentioning but i did try that and it still would not work so i uninstalled it to find another one that would work and now i can't install any of them at all as they seem to think i don't have civ on here... and thank you for helping me through this... this stuff is so new to me

Well, as I mentioned elsewhere, it is critical that you first patch your Warlords to latest version (2.13) before trying to run TR. I hope you'll still manage to do everything.

ok i reinstalled the one that did install before again and when i try to go into the game i get a mod error that reads: "mods\total realism\ is an invalid mod directory, ignoring" so i created this directory manually in the mods folder and still get the same message

ok.... i tried to load the patch but i'm getting the same message when i start the download seems like civ 4 mods and patches hate my computer

a separate file and running it. do you think downloading it from in the game would help? and if so how do i do that so i don't screw up my civ

i just tried to check for updates in the advanced section within the game but it says it is up to date so where do i go from here? i even made sure to update my direct x to the latest version and still no luck on a inatall

Okay now, this is really getting weird and complicated. :)

1) Are you able to custom-install TR to ANY location so that you have a folder called Total Realism with its contents no matter where?

2) If then you copy this to Warlords/Mods folder (be very sure that you don't copy it to just Civ 4/Mods folder, but to Civ 4/Warlords/Mods, these are separate), and run Warlords (once again, make sure it is Warlords you're running, not regular Civ) - then are you able to run the mod? If not, what exactly is the error message? Or does it simply not "see" the mod folder?

ok well i downloaded the file in my browser (i use opera) and when the download finishes it starts the install wizard but just when it is all most done an error message pops up telling me that there is no version of civ intalled and that i nead an earlier version to continue, for TR for warlords 2.o install the error read "Civilization 4 - warlords not found. unable to install mod." for TR for warlords gold 2.2 it says " Civilzation 4 - warlords not found" "do you want to continue?" i clicked ok and next it says "Select type of your warlords game" the options are either "standard (cd/dvd) installation" or "steam installation" "if you choose the wrong installation you will not be able to run the mod" (i don't know wich one to choose but i picked the first) the next screen asks for which patch (now i can't get a patch to install but i have civ 4 gold and it is patched up to date out of the box already) its says "choosing the the wrong patch will not allow the mod to run or updating will require a reinstall of the mod" the 2 selections are "warlords 2.08 and 2.13" i choose 2.13 as civ 4 gold is patched up to date out of the box next you have to "select the directory where your civ:4 warlords is installed" so i found the civ 4 warlords folder (C:\Users\Charles\Documents\My Games\Warlords) this where i found it and next you pick what you want to install i just did the TR mod nothing else the next screen tells you everything you chose so i clicked the install button the next screen installs (of course) after the install i clicked the next button and it tells me it is done and i clicked the finish button then i went to copy the TR folder into the warlords/mod folder but i found it was already there now TR warlords gold 2.2 (what i am refering to here) puts 3 icons on the desktop
1 for just the mod itself
1 for the mod with earth map and
1 for the mod with earth map no celts
i chose the first and windows starts searching for the file "Civ4warlords.exe" it finds it but asks me if i want it to fix the path so i click fix it button and it goes into the game (slowly) but it worked doing this and loads and goes into the game doing this is what i did to get it to work but after clicking the "play game" button the game starts but is missing the components that are around the edge of the screen "you know it only shows your on screen people and your towns in your territory not any other things like options menu and civlopidia buttons and that stuff... if there is a way to fix that it would work perfectly... thank you so much for your help and if any one else has this problem pass it on maybe it will be of some use to some one else (sorry it is so long i just wanted to make sure you knew exactly what i was doing and what the game was doing)

OK, yes, that gives me an idea of what you're doing right and wrong. Relax, it seems we're almost there. :D

First of all, there is a vastly better 2.3 version of TR. Get it here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=9484

It should install just like 2.2 did (or maybe better, it might have means of detecting Civ Gold by itself, I don't remember). If it doesn't see your Civ, just do like you did before (up to the point when you can start the mod, but can't see any interface). Then be sure to do two things:

1) Update the dll (get it here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=9484); note that the dll file should replace the one inside Mods/Total Realism/Assets, NOT the one inside Warlords/Assets!

2) Here, at the bottom of the thread (second last post), get the fix for "no interface" problem.

i did everything you said fr TR 2.3 updated the dll but when i started the game i got this error message right after clicking the desktop icon "this application has failed to start because BOOST_PYTHON-VC71-MT-1_32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." i tried to re-install but it does the same thing it does not fix this issue... p.s. you have been a big help

It's the first time I'm encountering this particular error. There are only two possible suggestions from me at the time.

1) Once again make sure that your Warlords version is 2.13. It's critical, since any earlier version won't run TR. It can be checked under "Advanced"->"About this build" when you start Warlords (without any mod).

2) If you have the latest version of Warlords, you may try to install Python. I don't really know, but if it says it's missing a python library, it's worth a try.

http://www.python.org/download/

Once again, only proceed to 2 after you're sure that your Warlords is 2.13 and the mod isn't working with this version. If you have an earlier version, you should concentrate on updating your Warlords.

Hey there, kinda new to this forum, but not to civ. I have the forth installment plus warlords and thought i'd try a hand at installing one of the mods available from the web. With much searching I heard that Total Realism best the best, so I d/l it and i agree, fantastic job. I updated my directx, plus the DLL and then finally the 2.13 patch for warlords. Seems to work fine now (I was having a few problems, kept shutting down to my desktop) Well, to cut a long story short, may seem a simple problem..but is there anyway to speed up the time between turns? I've only had a short time on it because of this, and i'm only around 100 turns and it's taking around 90 seconds between turns. I've cleared a load of junk from my P.C plus used Ccleaner and defraged it, with little hope of speeding the mod up at all. Anyone else had this problem? Plus any advice on the subject.
P.s thanks in advance

Our mod is very system-intensive. So, this behaviour is to be expected, while playing larger maps - especially the World Map that comes with the mod (many people tend to think it's the only way to play TR - but it is absolutely not the case, TR works very well with random maps). TR is both CPU and GPU intensive, and thus every particular system has its own performance threshold regarding map sizes; on older systems it isn't recomended to use Earth maps and random huge maps.
