[mod] Warlords: Total Realism 2.3a

Dear TR Team,

I would like to thank you for this fantastic mod. It is altogether a new and challenging experience for me with the new units, buildings, wonders and tech tree. Off course the balancing is quite formidable. So Congratulationsand Thank You All for this exciting and challenging mod. :) :goodjob:

I have downloaded the TR Gold-2.1 with Patch-2.1.1a first. Played a while with Russians and later Romans, kept the saves and then discovered this forum and TR Gold-2.3a version.

I set up the v2.1 first, patched it with v2.1.1a, played it, then set up v2.3a on top of it. It worked fine.

But, and the problem part is this, after I came to a certain stage in the game, the program crashes and goes to desktop. I played Scandinavians with the v2.3a, it crashed. I kept the save. Before that, I played with another civ on v.2.3a, it crashed as same on a certain stage, but later I deleted that save accidentally.

To sort out this problem, I read this tread, and downloaded the latest dll's (presented on the #961 & #976 separately) but neither of the dll's worked to solve my problem. My saves crashed as it came the same turn just as before.

After that, I set up v2.1 on top of it, patched again with v2.1.1a, and started again with French. It is going fine so far. However, I can not load my old saves (Russian and Roman saves I mentioned earlier on this post), because when I load them, the game crashes to desktop.

I can attach the v2.3a save (Scadinavians) for anyone to analyze on this, you can find it below.

I would appreciate if someone can assist me. I am playing v2.1.1a now, and it works ok, but I would like to continue on v2.3a since it is much more enhanced and exciting. Also, I have spend considerable time on Scandinavian save, and would like to keep playing.

For me, v2.3a is unplayable now, since I know that at some point my game will crash.

Thank you for your assistance in advance.

Take care All...

Thank you for the info Walter,

However, when I read the forum earlier, I already downloaded the dll that you linked the post to me, in addition I have placed it the exact same place that you've mentioned. I read that in an earlier post of yours, I guess somebody was asking about the same issue. Sadly my game kept crashing.

Furthermore, I guessed that v2.3 is self sufficient, though thank you for confirming it, but I did not want to uninstall the whole game first and set up v2.3 on a clean one. I got lazy about it, so just set up over the previous version.

However, now that I'm looking back the process, maybe dll change did not effect the crash maybe because I set up one version over the other, rather than installing v2.3 on a clean Warlords.

Any thoughts anyone???

is it a "real" CTD or the MAF!?

Your save doesn't crash for me. Are you sure you're putting the dll into the right place?

Yes, I placed the dll precisely where you've mentioned on your posts earlier.
Maybe I should uninstall the whole Civ4 & Warlords. Reinstall them, install the v.2.3, place the latest dll, and then try to run the save.
Maybe that would help.

By the way, Walter, can you run my save for a couple of turns. I'm not sure, maybe it was crashing after a few turns.

Yours are likely not MAFs, since the save you posted is below 1 Mb. If it is a MAF, then you'd get an error message about Memory Allocation Failure. A non-MAF CTD is when you just crash to desktop.

Oh I see. Thanks for clearing it up Walter. Mine is CTD, I have never received a MAF before related to Civ4 issues.

The only thing I currently recommend is a clean 2.3a reinstall. Delete your Total Realism folder, install 2.3a, then copy the latest dll file there. These crashes shouldn't be happening to the properly installed 2.3a with the latest dll.

I have tried this with the 2nd dll and the 3rd (for multiplayer) dll.

When I end this turn, I can play the next turn, but on ending that turn - when you get the message "Waiting for other civs" I just get the spinning pointer and have to forcably close the program (C-A-D).

It does save the auto save for that turn, but if you try to load it it crashes - giving the "Warlords has encountered a problem " message.

You're talking about the save posted by blithe, or you forgot to attach your own?

Guys,

I installed a clean civ 4, & warlords, patched with warlords 2.08, then installed TR 2.3a, installed the latest dll in its place as described by Walter.

I use the "Civ IV Warlord Total Realism Earth Map" shortcut, select a new civ and the game loads to start the game, but in the end, the game crashes to the desktop. No MAF, just plain CTD. I am using Vista on my laptop (just an additional info.)

What do you think is going wrong here? Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance

Patch Warlords to 2.13 (or whatever the next patch after 2.08).

Hi there,

can anyone tell me the difference between Standard (CD/DVD) installation and Steam installation?

It asks at the beginning, and warns if I select the wrong one the mod will not run. But I do not know the difference and what these type of installations mean.

I'd appreciate if someone explain this to me.

Thanks

Steam installation means you downloaded Civ4 via Steam. If you don't have Steam installed, that's not your case.
