I played the CivIV version of this mod a couple of months ago, so I tried the warlord version of it earlier this week.
In short, WOW !
Huge earth map, monarch, playing as germany. The german trait which provides a bonus to settler production is a blast and I went for an aggressive expansion early on. It paid off big time. I was carefull not to overextend myself and I paid a carefull attention on building lots of military unit, a mistake I often made in the past. So far so good but still very early in the game. The european section of the map is well designed (haven't explorer the rest of the map yet), with plenty of ressources but scarce in land. So a lot of ressource for city expansion but fighting for land is inevitable, as was the case historically speaking.
I really like these features so far:
1) very few (close to none) of the early building allows for GP. Original design (compared to other mods) and feels accurate also.
2) ressources appear with some technology and later tech allow for (better) exploitation, also a good design. Mining is a fine example of this.
3) tech tree is awesome, so far. still very early in my game though (<200 turns).
4) unit diversity brings bonus promotions for stacks, nice touch.
5) I like the fact that there seems to be a lot of unit classes, another nice touch. In most game/mods, there's only a single class of mounted unit for example.
6) Love the fact that fast moving unit, like chariot, have maluses when attacking city. Good play balance. I really hope this is carried over to armor unit in late tech and that "city attack" promotion are also blocked. Fast moving unit rule in open terrain combat; as city invaders, they should suck (their mobility is of no tactical advantage against a fortified defender behind a city wall). I come from the grognard school in wargame, I like the fact that your design does have realism not just in the name
Will provide more feedback when it's available. Keep up the good work. IMO, it's by far one of the best mod I've played in the last year, right behind Fall from heaven (hard to beat that one with their original fantasy setting).
