[mod] Warlords: Total Realism 2.3a

An idea I had about diplomacy: during a game AI players keep on asking you to join a war, stop trade etc., and when you refuse you get a penalty vs this civ. But why dont recieve a bonus too? I explain with an example: Persia ask to me (Rome) to stop trading with Russia. I refuse and I get a negative penalty vs Persia, but it would be good to recieve a positive vs Russia. In this way I can improve my relations, not only weakening as happens in the game, if you dont accept every crazy proposal of AI players. Maybe a way to give some complexity to diplomacy? Modders think it's possible and that it could be a good idea?

Not actually.
Why would Russia know that you have refused to Persia ? Couse you have said so and they belive you ?

I dont like this "why dont you help us" or "stop trading" or "aid us in war", as is unfair. Player CANNOT make demans, cous AI often has "we have enough lands at the moment" or "you surelly must be joking". What is worse, usually when AI asks me to join them in a war, they sign peace with the one he asked me to declare war with at the same turn, but AFTER he asked me for help.

Some leaders are new, and have no original files. I think you are refering to "animated" leader heads, am i right ?

There is a way, and it was spoken of in TR 2.0 threat. Search for it there. I dont know, and dont want to fool you, and people responsible for it are out of reach.

What scenerios would people be interested in using with the TR mod?

examples:

World War Two

Ancient Europe

Colonization

Any feedback would be appreciated since I can only do one at a time and I'd like to do one with mass interest.

I like more: colonization. World War and ancient Europe have others mods.

Pisces..... I'd just like to see one of the huge European maps with the correct starting locations and let history take it's own course. I've tried to do it myself and it worked with the earlier versions of TR but no longer.

In the real world diplomacy is much more complex than here, of course. I was suggesting this possible change because in the game you have almost no chances to improve relations with AI keeping on asking you crazy demands. When you refuse to enter in a war against him, you relations can improve and in a long game can even change to positive. Just an idea :-)

Diplomacy is a little problem. If you want a perfect diplomacy with any any player you have to put down your head at every its question.
But I think is not right to improve the diplomacy with an AI player if you refuse to declare war, or to spot trading etc...
I think..(only my opinion) that it would better, if the negative score, that you have when refuse a thing, would vanish after a tot time.
It's not right that if I don't adopt religion, or a govern form in 1000 D.C., in 1900 D.C. that nation hate me for that...
Only war, and few things in diplomacy, for me, would be forever!
What do you think about this? :goodjob:

I totally agree and that what I said in the first post. I gave an example when playing as Rome and attacking France, the attitude of Russia said "you attacked my friend" 1500 years later, crazy! As I said we can imagine that statesmen change after, I dont know, 100 years maybe, and even attitude of AI can change. For example, for not important actions, as stop trading with someone or join a war or refuse to change religion, it can expire in short time, for important actions, as declaration of war, it can last longer, but anyway, in my opinion, every action must be forgotten after some time. In the real world, often countries enemies during a war can be allied in another one, as in the european history. I dont know if it's possible to arrange such way, but I think that a superior diplomacy can really give something new in a game, especially at high levels of difficulty.

Figuring out how to get a map or scenerio to work on the TR mod is proving a lot more challenging than I had thought. Even starting maps from scratch are causing conflicts. Unless someone on the team can clue me in on why the mod is refusing **any** new map types even when identicle resources are plotted, I can offer nothing.

I played the CivIV version of this mod a couple of months ago, so I tried the warlord version of it earlier this week.

In short, WOW !

Huge earth map, monarch, playing as germany. The german trait which provides a bonus to settler production is a blast and I went for an aggressive expansion early on. It paid off big time. I was carefull not to overextend myself and I paid a carefull attention on building lots of military unit, a mistake I often made in the past. So far so good but still very early in the game. The european section of the map is well designed (haven't explorer the rest of the map yet), with plenty of ressources but scarce in land. So a lot of ressource for city expansion but fighting for land is inevitable, as was the case historically speaking.

I really like these features so far:
1) very few (close to none) of the early building allows for GP. Original design (compared to other mods) and feels accurate also.
2) ressources appear with some technology and later tech allow for (better) exploitation, also a good design. Mining is a fine example of this.
3) tech tree is awesome, so far. still very early in my game though (<200 turns).
4) unit diversity brings bonus promotions for stacks, nice touch.
5) I like the fact that there seems to be a lot of unit classes, another nice touch. In most game/mods, there's only a single class of mounted unit for example.
6) Love the fact that fast moving unit, like chariot, have maluses when attacking city. Good play balance. I really hope this is carried over to armor unit in late tech and that "city attack" promotion are also blocked. Fast moving unit rule in open terrain combat; as city invaders, they should suck (their mobility is of no tactical advantage against a fortified defender behind a city wall). I come from the grognard school in wargame, I like the fact that your design does have realism not just in the name :)

Will provide more feedback when it's available. Keep up the good work. IMO, it's by far one of the best mod I've played in the last year, right behind Fall from heaven (hard to beat that one with their original fantasy setting).

@ All:

Guys,

At that time we are all very busy with our job. Houman, Walter and me (at least) don't have much free time to improve our mod. Nevertheless, we had already made some changes that are under heavy tests. We will also try to release a patch asap. In this one we hope to include some changes in Irregulars line units, some bugs removing, etc.

Don't cry or hurt please. We do our best.

Personnaly and in the name of the Team, i want to thank all those who help us to remove the bug and to balance the mod. It was a big help. Thx.

Hian the Frog

Only one more thing, please be attention to create your mod and not the mod community want because it is impossible to satisfy all.

At the current time your ideas are very impressive and nice to play with little modifications, so go straight on your way!

TR creates its comunity, not comunity TR.
We have some people in team, with differant nationality, philosophy, tolerance, childhood and we share our ideas on TR, so what looks good for one, may be orange for other.

Cries!

So, as you know, I don't got internet at home atm, so I go to this internet cafe with a flash disk and try to download TR onto it so I can bring it home to play. *It's too big!!! My disk is 200 and(Something) MBs but TR is 300! AhhH!!! Can I get small in any way? Maybe zip the installer or something? Cut it in two? Plz! Anyone? I WANNA PLAY! ..... NOW.

:D

Internet cafes should have HDDs.
You just download the exe, rar it into 2 files, get one file on flashdisk, go home copty and go back to cafe, get it again and go back home.

Or just takeout your HDD and bring it to cafe...

PS: Who uses 200MB Flash Drives ??? Mine has 1GB+... and i have used it 2 times :o

In Varrock say with king Tiras :king: or with Saradomin :D (Yes, I play runescape too) Download all TR and zip in two parts. Installed TR uses more 700Mb!

What I've really appreciated in this mod is the new upgrading costs and I would like to change it in the previous version, but I dont know how. Can you tell me where and how can I change the strings I need to have the same upgrading way in Gold version? I mean, in TR Gold you pay the max cost when upgrading a unit, here the difference between the cost of the new and the older. Is it right? Thank you!

No, it was always the difference, but before it also had a "fixed" part, and now it's equal to 0. You can change it in GlobalDefinesAlt.xml to whichever value you want, it's at the very end of that file.
