[mod] Warlords: Total Realism 2.3a

Hello all
My first post hier and my first problem with this greate mod :(
I play civ with Windows Vista. When i open mod i cant see any menu and tolbar in game. There is no error info or somethink.

I applied the 2.3a DLL, and that fixed my problem with Ironworking (CTD the turn I finished researching Ironworking). I have reached the point where my game crashes due to a memory allocation error every 4-5 turns. Up until 2152, I simply saved my game every 2 turns. Once I hit 2152, however, the memory allocation error pops up whenever I save the game, or the game attempts to auto-save. What can I do to mitigate this? Would reducing my screen resolution and/or turning off efffects help?

Don't think there are ways of reducing MAF crashing of an ongoing game, since it's a function of savegame size, and you can't realistically reduce it (you could, of course, go into WorldBuilder and delete something insignificant, but that's about it). Have you applied the classical anti-MAF stuff? (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=225205) If yes, the more free memory you have the better, so try to remove background programs and stuff; if not, that's your answer (and until you do, more memory doesn't help you).

I modified my warlords.exe file. I have Windows XP Home Edition and Vista Ultimate (64 bit) on my PC. Even though I wasn't able to apply the XP modifications, it ran great under Vista. In fact, it was much more responsive after the tweak.

Thanks for posting that link about the anti-MAF stuff.

Great! Glad to hear it helped.:goodjob:

This is what I've done. I've got an alternative map with the America's, Australia, and much of Indonesia deleted. Figured I tire of a game before I get to the other continent anyway even if I don't get a crash, so why not get rid of the RAM hoggers completely? It has HUGELY cut down on my MAF's.

I am playing Japanese, and have built a few light tanks. I have run into some interesting problems with them, though:

1) When the game cycles to a light tank, from another unit, my light tanks have the button options of the previous unit. The following turn, the first unit selected was one of my light tanks, but this time it had no option buttons at all!
2) When I built a new light tank in one of my cities, and switched to the city's build queue, the city details screen did not go away when I hit the 'escape' button.

I am playing this game in my Windows 32 Home setup. Could this be related to the MAF issues I was having earlier?

I will copy this savefile over to my Vista boot disk, and test this on Vista 64. If the results change, I will update this post.

Nah, this isn't related. It is a small animation bug, already fixed for the next version. Happy New Year!

Hey Gang, Hope all of you had a great holiday season, and all the best in the new year!!
Well it seams like my old friend the MAF crash is back, and on a new computerr? So maybe someone here has had the same thing happen, and have fixed it.

Starting, I have a brand new Dell laptop - Precision M6400 - 4 gigs ram - Intel core 2 duo at T9600 @ 2.80Ghz - running Vista business w/service pack 1.

I have used the CFF explorer to change the .exe to use 2 gigs of ram, and also used this line in a command prompt - bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVA 3072.

So far I can get to about turn 700 and everything shuts down. I even allocated 10000 mb in my virtual mem. Still getting crashes. I tried to change the .dll, but I am not 100% sure where to put the new one? Is in the realsim mod assets?

If anybody has any advice, please feel free... Wanna try to take over the world....

Thanx for listening to this little rant (LOL)

So you haven't been using updated dll? It is a miracle you could play for 700 turns then, you would have had non-MAF-related CTDs aplenty before that. And yes, it should replace the one located in TR/assets folder.

Also bear in mind that MAFs don't really care about your new system, they care about savegame size. The "fixes" aren't supposed to totally cure MAFs, only to offset them to a much later point (BTW, you can check if they work by checking your savegame size when the MAFs start occuring - if it is around 1 MB, then your fixes aren't working). The upside is, the fixes can "offset" the MAFs sufficiently for you to play a full game on non-gigantic maps.

And fireaxis still hasn't moved a finger to solve MAFs... That's what I call respect for consumers' rights.

Is there a limit to the amount of XP a military unit can earn? I have had a unit in my current game reach 100 XP, but it hasn't earned any XP since.

I think we capped XP from barbarians at 100. There are also several rare issues where a unit isn't able to level up anymore. But the amount of total XP shouldn't be capped - if it's earned from fighting fellow Civs.

Hi, I'm new to this forum, I found your mod by "accident" and have to say:

WOW, . .. .. .. .in great job guys, this mod is genious; as it sounded, total realism.
The only thing I hate is that i just cant playin it normally, it crashes every game at about middle age, although i got 2GB of RAM :( I've heard something about an MAF Fix - btw what does MAF mean? - would that maybe help me.
I have the new dll already installed. I'm not sure if your wokin on a BtS release, if so, I wish you the best of luck and I hope youre aware of the RAM problem (if it is the problem) and are workin on that somehow. Or do you think the BtS release will need even more resources :/ ??
Well, again, this mod is epic and - although I didnt play many other mods - I'm pretty sure its the best existing out there and I'm very glad having found it.
It made the game at least twice as good (and believe me, it was already asskickin) and I just know it to middle age :D
See, cant stop praisin your mod so now I just shut the hell up now and hope for a (for me ) playable BtS realease or any kind of fix .
And btw its a disaster you guys dont get paid by Firaxis or so, if I werent such a poor student I would send you some :p
So again, thank you very much for your creativity and your great hard work, it was worth it. :king: :goodjob:

greetings from germany

Hi Walter,
thx for the link im gonna try but first i would like to know if my savegame works for you a few more rounds, cuase its always crashing the next turn and its not over 1MB big. The problem with the MAF fix is, the guy says its for WinXP Pro only, not for Win XP Home and i have some weird Win XP Media Center Edition :/ so im not quite sure. But if the savegame actually works i will try to fix it with this MAF thing, would be the only chance then.
