[mod] Warlords: Total Realism 2.3a

There is a new version coming soon enough (this year is quite likely, although no promises here). I guess the best advice I can give is wait a bit, I dare say it will be well worth the wait. The crash bug you mentioning, although it can be one of several, has very likely been fixed there too. At least our betas are being able to play through successfully now.

AWESOME!!!

Thanks for the quick reply, I look forward to playing the new mod.

Hey guys i just downloaded and started playing and i want to know 2 things please.

1. Is there anyway to start in modern times and not play all the way through ancient etc. ?

2. I went to world builder and gave myself techs just so i could see units availble in modern times and i never could get my cities to build the USMC for United States i just wondered if the "firearms" resource was removed from map because of bugs or if there is another map that i need to play with that.

Thanks,
Wild

1) Yes, in Custom Game you can choose a starting era. But you will have some difficulty starting in later eras (from Renaissance onwards), not in the least since:

2) The mod assumes you have a certain level of development as you enter the eras. This means a number of cities, resources conncted, and, for later eras, industrial infrastructure. Firearms, just like many other resources, don't spawn on the map. You have to manufacture them in your factories, by processing iron ore and coal to make steel in a steel mill, and then by processing that steel in a weapon factory - which, by the time you reach modern era "the natural way", you should already be doing anyway. Also, if you start the game in industrial/modern, your cities will be very unhappy from the start, since the demand for luxury rises with era advancement in TR - once again assuming that you have had time to find, collect and/or manufacture lots of luxuries by then.

If you want to quickly see everything the mod has to offer, you better select a quicker game speed and start somewhere in classical/medieval.

Okay thank you i figured that out right after i posted that question but i also have one more.

When i play i can get to about mid way through renesciance era (sorry if i spelled incorrect) and then my game will crash saying "Memory allocation failure - exiting game" "reason - bad allocation" Now "memory" might be RAM? So is that saying i don't have enough ram?

Just so you know I'm running Core 2 quad at 2.67 4 gb ram at 800mhz and XFX 9800 GTX+ video card all running Windows Vista Ultimate 64x

I really like the looks of this scenario and if i was to say so is probably the most comprehensive out there.

Thanks a lot again,
wild

That is a very known and unfortunate error of Civ 4 engine. Since you run 64-bit system, unlike many users you can make it disappear completely. All you have to do is to modify your warlords exe to handle more memory. To quote the thread where the solution was posted:

- First download the explorer from http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php
- Next make a copy of Civ4Warlords.exe. Than start "CFF Explorer" and open the orginal Civ4Warlords.exe file.
- Now go to NT Header/File Header and click File Header. There you will find a button labeld "click here". Click it. And select the checkbox "App can handle> 2gb adressest "
- Save the modified EXE, overwrite the orginal one.

Thank you very much i will try that right now. I knew getting 64x would pay off sometime.

Thanks for your quick answers also very good experience.

Thanks,

Total Realism is truly my favorite mod, its a shame its only marked with 4 stars:confused:

But is this mod about to convert to Beyond the Sword soon? I am longing to play Total Realism in BtS

*Standing ovations to the TR-team*

Not soon in "coming tomorrow" sense, but quite soon, yes. Actually, you can start counting after we release a 2.4 version for Warlords - after that it will mostly be direct porting of that version, and it shouldn't take much time.

Great thanks. do you think 2.4 will be compatible with 2.3a saves?

 That's unfortunate,I wish I knew something about programing I would help out,but all I know is how to build them  Maybe there is a chance the team gets back together someday.Anyway thanks for the continued work on the mod Walter,I will still track TR,and look out for the update:cheers:
Don't worry - they now have a couple of new programmers and progress is occurring at a fast pace.

IMHO, you can expect a new Warlords version soon. Not sure when, may be sometime in the new year. :):goodjob:

It looks like you have changed your way since august, Walter. Back then you say that Bts probably wont happen :)

Back then it looked like the team has almost ceased existing. Since then we got a new coder, and then our old coder also came back to us, impressed by our progress. Also, our fans proved to be very supportive and have helped very much with beta-testing. We are releasing last Warlords version soon, and it will be cooler than you ever saw, and then we're moving on to BtS! :D

Of course, unfortunately, for the TR team, "soon" means anywhere between now and Next Christmas :p :p :p
Glad to hear another version for WL is coming, can't wait! Of course I'm much more looking forward to a BTS TR. :)

Fine mod this one, but why do the viking berserkers require plated armour? The old vikings did not were any plated armour:confused:
-only makes them appear to late in game.

Amd while playing "vikings" it includes no longboats or seafaring, but the barbarians have the longboats.. a bit too Swedish:lol:
