Morality exists without your God.

I honestly never expected to see you people hanging on tenterhooks and checking profile pages to see if the likes of Domination would be posting soon. Don't you have anything better to do?
Eh, I was just going by the little light thingy in the corner of his last post.

Uh.... Ziggy, love ya man, but you left out a pretty huge part of the whole Isaac sacrifice story.

Also, Abraham would not have been at all attached to his foreskin at that time.

Abraham was 90 years old when he circumcised himself and his 13 year old son Ishmael. He was 100 years old when he circumcised his 8 day old son Isaac. The bible does not say how old Issac was when God told Abraham to sacrifice him, but he was at least old enough to carry all the wood needed for the burnt offering up to the top of mountain. Most experts assume he was at least 18, with Josephus claiming he was 25 and many Christian scholars preferring the age 33 to increase the parallels with the crucifixion of Jesus. (Since Sarah was 90 when Issac was born, 127 when she died, and still alive in this story, we can assume that Issac was not more than 37 years old.)

Well, the comic is called "selective memory" after all :p

What is?

Except when he does, a la Abraham.

If someone said god told them to kill their son and they did it, should they be arrested?

I think that only worked once and the outcome was as expected. God also killed His Son who willingly died in obedience. Isaac obeyed his father Abraham and was delivered. Jesus obeyed his father and was delivered from the chains of death via resurrection. Now the command and even the obedience may be foreign concepts, but human actions of honor that have originated in the minds of humans have been no less reprehensible. One may be fixated on the death aspect, but death was not the point. Freedom from death was the point. Has been and always will be.

Death has never been the justification of or for morality. Death is the justified result in braking a moral law. It is not the prefferred choice, but the just one. One cannot destroy life and get away with it. One cannot be an immoral or even amoral agent and be justified in getting off in their freedom. God is neither moral, immoral, nor amoral, unless he is an imaginary character. The concept of moraltiy can neither be a human construct if there was no God. That does not mean that morality cannot exist without God, but it just means that God allows humans to associate morality apart from him.

This also does not prove that God exist. It would be usless though, to evolve such a concept. Even social animals can exist without the concept of morality. Why do humans have it?

Okay, I am going to dive into this to give everyone a good chuckle with my analogy which will probably deserve to be voted worst analogy of all time.

Think of it like the Sun and sunlight, but instead of that it is God and morality, and morality is pouring out of him and being infused into all of us. Without God, there would be no morality, but that does not mean that if you don't believe in God you are lacking morality because you're getting it just as a plant that has no concept of the sun on some higher thought process level still receives sunlight.

Okay, that is all.

What if I create artificial sunlight lamps that provide the exact same spectrum of electromagnetic radiation as the sun without causing sunburn?

Then my pasty white backside will be your first customer once you commercialize your product, that's what!

You could market franchises?

Well, looks like I would become a King then. Or better than a King-a God!

There're (artificial, man-made) lights that are healthier for the plant than the sunlight, my friend. Sure, sunlight ain't super-bad and a pretty good stand-in while something better is made.

I actually really think this is a good analogy. The fact that modern technology "Technically" renders it obsolete shouldn't really matter. You made a valid natural comparison. Plants, naturally, gain light from the Sun. People gain moral light from the Son. In fact, its a pun on words as well:)
