From Namibia
To Aden:
Your invasion of Iran is illegal. We ask you to stop the occupation of Iran. If not, the relations between our countries could be damaged. We hope that you do not want war between Namibia and Aden.
Iran was one of the swine that ruined Namibia's economy when it was in its most desperate time of need against the Blood Empire's forces.
Aden doesn't think Namibia should really care what happens to them.
Also I now have the largest army in the world, since the Pope lost many of his troops in the war.
The Federation of European and Asian Republics contests this; it has 103 armies to Namibia's 75.
That said, with the Spammer heartland captured I believe it is time to divide up the land in accordance to the partition. Can that be done this turn rather than at the start of next?
Next turn.
Aden...we just outright condemn you having a military period. You clearly do not show self control with it.
Aden thinks it deserves a medal for showing just what a military is capable of! It brought peace to Somalia. Liberated Ethiopia from the yoke of Romnesian despots. Brought peace to the middle east by removing the last ideological differences in the area.
Costa Rica, in its capacity as General Secretary, sees defensive pacts as holding legitimacy solely when actual armed force is invoked. Due to its Secretarial office, the policies of Costa Rica naturally hold importance; by its mandate from a collection of sovereign nations, Costa Rica is responsible for determining when international action would be appropriate.
To give examples of Costa Rica's view on the matters:
-Poland attacked Russia. Russia, had it pacts at the time, would have received no complaints from Costa Rica (had it been GS at the time). Poland, by contrast, was merely making claims to land it did not possess; we would not have seen their war as "defensive" in any sense of the word.
-Costa Rica invaded Amazonia. We would not have seen this war as defensive. We blatantly admit this was reassertion of our suzerainty over the Amazon.
-Aden's closure of the Straits of Ormuz to the Spammers. This was not an act of aggression; states have the right to determine what does and doesn't go through their waters. Had Aden or the Spammers sent their fleets against eachother, it would have been an act of aggression when one's military entered the other's waters.
-Adeni invasion of Somalia and Ethiopia. Blatant aggression. Ethiopia and Somalia had full rights to call on their allies; Aden did not.
-Invasion of the Spammers. While the Spammers have caused quite a stir lately with their proposed policies, that does not count as aggression. The Union of Nations is more or less democratic; in a democracy (which we understand perfectly despite not being one ourselves) you do not beat someone over the head because he proposes something contrary to your interests. You vote, he votes, and everyone else does. Whatever holds the majority or supermajority opinion shall become law, and in later cycles it is possible to repeal such laws if it is unpopular enough. Indeed, the Papacy and its coalition were well within their rights to vote down Spammer legislation (as they did). As for the religious split – in a world populated by a multitude of faiths, Costa Rica does not buy religious splits as justification for war. The Papacy could legitimately persecute any who ascribed to the Spammers’ faith, of course (as is their sovereign right), but this does not justify troops going into other nations any more than Aden’s blocking of Spammer shipping or the Spammers embargoing nations due to disgust with their policies.
In conclusion, Costa Rica only views defensive pacts as legitimate in the cases of shots actually being fired from an outside party. The Spammers are not guilty of aggression, even if they are guilty of immense political and economic pressuring. Costa Rica thus encourages the Papacy’s allies to not consider their pacts invoked should the HITSGDP likely retaliate.
Costa Rica also announces that it is embargoing the Papal sphere, and encourages its allies Tropico and Solitude to do the same.
Costa Rica also is announcing the ward it put on Poland and Russia will also apply towards this conflict; nuclear attacks on cities or anything similarly destructive towards civilian populations will see harsh reprisals. Costa Rica will refrain from direct troop involvement to help pursue a peace agreement, but the use of WMD is strictly unacceptable, barring in cases of combat where the warhead does not risk massive civilian casualties.
Indonesia announces that it will support the Spammers the best it can with limited resources (there is no Japanese aid coming, and with all the fleets involved, any direct military confrontation is simply non-negotiable). While unable to directly assist during the course of the surprise attack, it made sure to give some of its technologies to the Spammers prior to the assault when it looked like tensions were heating up with its neighbors. Indonesia motions for the Papacy and Byzantium to be added to the HITSGDP no trade list. To prevent reprisal, Indonesia announces it shall be assembling a large nuclear stockpile in the coming year.
