Myth01- Training Day- Regent

lurker's comment: Could you post a pic of the areas you are talking about with the luxes and the Iron and Saltpeter?

Took picture of Spain.
My plan is land in Egypt, create 2 stacks, and a settler spear/MI combo.
Stacks of at least 10 cav's (15 should be save). Place them on the border.

From there they can attack Toledo and Sevile in 1 turn, and keep those. Next turn move most of the stacks to the second dot's.

The southern stack will attack Madrid on the 3rd turn. If there are units left we can also take Valencia. The northern stack will be used as backup to take Madrid (but that is probably not necesary). Then the northern stack will take Barcelona.

If war goes well, we can move the stack that took Madrid towards Murcia on turn 4, and the stack from Barcelona towards Santiago.

It's important to first settle the city on the red dot, stealing the spices from Egypt, if we take the cities first the borders of Memphis will expand and we can't steal the spices anymore. If we just move a settler to the dot, Spain probably won't mind. Next turn settle, move 2 spears or so in it and attack Toledo and Seville. The map is recent so our new city will be save at least during the first turn.

Attack Spain.jpg

I also pointed to the Iro's saltpeter and iron, which are very close to the Spanish border, easy tagets for our army, or bring 2 explorers, the can reach both resources in 1 turn and pillage them both. We could also bring some more settlers to to claim more land.

Could also attack iro cities on our continent with riders now to get golden age. Get riders/cav's quicker and go to war in 15-20 turns or so. But don't think we should do that. First take Spain,

So we need 10 ships with 4 capacity, is 40 units, 30 cav's, a settler, 2 explorers, 2 spear's/MI and maybe some workers. Aslo we need to get our elites overthere. We could send 2 ships towards the mountain NE of Valencia. Land them after war started.

800_Salamanca.jpg

I think this was our attack plan, made by CBob.

I know. I just think mine is better, but ofcourse open for suggestions. We now have a map of the other continent, so we know where the resources are. If we can pillage them during the start of the war, it'll help a lot. Cbob's plan lands us a long way from the resources.

lurker's comment: Cbob's Plan can get to the Iron and Saltpeter pretty quickly too, and the faster you get Sun Tzu, the faster your conquest will be.

I think that nerovats' plan is safer than mine. In his plan, we get our units ashore and placed where we want them before we attack. And we attack on the turn that we declare war. In mine, we have to land and survive a round of counterattacks before we can build our first city. We cannot attack until the second turn of the war.

nerovats's plan looks simpler to execute than mine, also. If we need to, we can build up our forces over several turns before we attack. Mine doesn't really allow for that.

Once Spain is weakened, and we get ready to make war with the Iroquois, we might want to look at my plan again. Perhaps, declare war on Iroquois while the invasion force is at sea, hoping that all the spare units will move into Old Spain and leave the interior empty of mobile defenders.

As adjustment to my plan I'd land our elites near the Spanish city in the north (together with sword army) and the one I mentioned on the mountain.
Also after we take Spain, and start war with Iro's we should sign pacts with Greece and Egypt, against Iro's. That should help a bit.
My plan also get's us closer to Sun Tzu, but I think most cities we take will have rax's anyway.
If you want conquest instead of domination, we shouldn't keep that many cities too.

Also after we take Spain, and start war with Iro's we should sign pacts with Greece and Egypt, against Iro's. That should help a bit.

lurker's comment: I disagree, that's just letting them have the spoils, and you want everything for yourself, remember? :p

They might take a city or 2, but will draw some fire from Iro's. Usually I find it's worth it. Iro's are the strongest civ after us, so we can use some help. Also by sign pacts ourselves we make sure the Iro's can't.

By signing Greece and Egypt into MA on Iroquois, we really don't care if they take a couple of cities. If they attack and lose, we win, since they are now weaker. If they attack and win, we still win, since the Iroquois are now weaker and the captured city is now smaller.

We're going to capture/raze all the cities anyway. Once we get rolling, do we really care who happens to own the cities? Nah. Resistance is futile.

The save itself is at the bottom of Post #840, last post on the previous page.

We have two cities ready to build next turn, not counting the one I've just mentioned.
The northern part of Old Zulu should be built ICS style, but we haven't done that so far.

Big Builds:
Newton's University in 18 in Beijing.

Workers
Where possible I tried to group workers into groups of 2 (road in one turn) or 3 (irrigate in one turn). That wasn't always possible.

In the core I have worker roading mountains; some are mining those mountains, also.

I fortified Riders and Explorers around Beijing.

Caravels I have sent to West Coast Point, since that looks like our closest city to Egypt.

We are connecting a third Saltpeter on a mountian NE of Great Hills in Old Zulu. Probably overkill, but let's get it while we can.

Science
After Magnetism, all we need is Banking to enter the next age. Iroquois have a monopoly on that tech. Maybe in two turns someone will become just as smart and drive down the price.

We could take a short detour to learn Military Tradition while we wait for another AI to learn Banking.

Once in the Industrial Age I think we should learn Steam Power, but that is hardly a surprise. Everybody loves Rails!

Trading
We could very easily get all the world's gold. I don't know that we want to do that. We could sell Spain something for GPT and keep her weak, but that means delaying our Spanish Offense another 20 turns. Which might be okay. It would take our current forces almost 10 turns to get ready to invade Spain via Egypt.

Units
We have no Muskets.

We had a lot of Explorer builds in place; I changed some but not many.

AI Activity
Both Spain and Iroquois bravely planted tundra cities in the far north of Old Zulu. They might someday grow to size 2 or maybe even 3.

Spain is building Magellan's Voyage in Madrid. That is the only wonder under construction right now, except for our build of Newton's University in Beijing.

Can we sell something for gpt, even if trade rep is broken?

Why explorers????

Can we sell something for gpt, even if trade rep is broken?
Kibitzer: For sure: you might have lost your credit, but you can still accept the AI's credit.
In some cases you can even still buy things for gpt/lux with a broken rep:
* if it's tied in with a peace treaty (the AI in question feels your knife on its throat);
* if you're dealing with a civ that's at war with the civ you cheated on; the AI is 'blind' for anything you've done to their enemies.

Can we sell something for gpt, even if trade rep is broken?

Why explorers????

Explorers are expendable pillage machines. You can undo strategic and bonus resources so your opponent is really in trouble at home and on the front.

Hum, I haven't looked at the save here, so I don't know the particular situation, but if you're strong enough to pillage, which means your enemy isn't strong enough to take out your pillagers, then you're usually strong enough to take the enemy's terrain, and you don't want to pillage what you're just about to take.

Right now we are at peace, getting ready to make war. Our forces are still local. No ships are loaded up with military units.

By the victory screen, we are the most powerful civ; Spain is the most cultured.
