NES World/Regional Maps Requests Thread

I see no reason for Romania not to be yellow.
Sure they joined the war late, but they didn't surrender until they were completely surrounded following the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. And they stayed alive against von Mackensen for a reasonably long time around Jassy in 1917/early 1918. :p

Taking the opposite tact, I'm assuming for visibility reasons?

@Dis: I have "2.4.5-1ubuntu2," the latest according to my package manager, so yes. It might be a lot better than previous versions, sure, but the annoying fact remains that it clutters desktops with several disjointed windows (it might be okay for you, but I'm not a particularly focused person so i tend to do several things at once).

1) The windows can be consolidated and fullscreened.
2) Dual monitors are the bees knees ;).

It's not so bad as to be indistinguishable, but it still would be way better given that there are no similar colours in the vicinity. Also, the flag colour convention would be maintained.

Alright, I'll look into it. If it was to signify government changes, I'd have been opposed. So far the only two countries which that applies to are the USSR and PRC, if only because they represent such radical breaks with their predecessors (and in the case of the PRC because the ROC still exists, in a fashion).

Are there any other nations we can easily lock-up color wise? I'm somewhat annoyed at continuing playing musical chairs with such things, but I suppose improvement is an inherently iterative process. Africa was mostly assigned colors that weren't used elsewhere and that looked decent as a whole, so I imagine it's there that the greatest opportunities lie--though priority probably goes to Europe and South America.

Your bellyfeel desires are trivial and the Butterfly Map is doubleplusgood compared to ungood Dymaxion. Get back in line, Prole.

If you want such a fabulous map, maybe you should... I don't know, apply yourself and actually do some work to get it instead of whining at other people to do it for you. :p

I would (easy, really), but I thought that since I won't have a connection between my picture-editing stuffs and the Internet until a day or two, I'd just throw the idea out just in case someone is inspired to do free work and that free work happens to be making a NESable Dymaxion map. :)

Hipkiss is awesome for old maps.

QCAD (If you want a free non-demo version, you must compile it yourself or scour the Net for a fitting binary [like this Windows binary here, which I have not tested]) or [self-censoring because of forum rules].

Quote: QCAD is an application for computer aided drafting in two dimensions (2d). With QCAD you can create technical drawings such as plans for buildings, interiors, mechanical parts or schemas and diagrams. QCAD works on Windows, Mac OS X and many Linux and Unix Systems. The source code of the QCAD community edition is released under the GPL (Open Source).

You might need some prior experience with CAD software, but a desire to learn and patience (a lot of this if you have a slow processor not fit for vector graphics stuffs) should be enough. Also, if you've used decent proprietary CAD software (like AutoCAD) before, let me tell you now that QCAD is clunky and crude (especially with trimming; oh god it's just horribly barbaric with trimming), but workable.

this and this there was another one, called RPG City Builder or something which was fairly nifty and could be heavily customised... can't find it.

So who wants to make a random planet map.

Black 2pts line for coastline. One large continent spanning about half of the northern hemisphere including the pole. Except for continent many small islands dotting the northern hemisphere.
Southern hemisphere should be rather empty deep seas with a few islands here and there from hot spots (kind of like Hawaii type islands).
Anything else is up to the maker... (mountain ranges and flora). If you can make one with flora (you know grass, woods, jungles) and one with only land and rivers and mountains, would be nice...

Does not have to be high notch but I would be happy if it is at least nice :) - size of regular earth map.

I'm no good with mountains :p...

If I'll do it there will be different maps for height etc...

I guess it Ok... NM then I'll do it myself...

Mountains are easy. Take this:

__xx__
_x__x_
x__xxx

Each _ is a white pixel, each x is a black pixel. Copy paste that a billion times. :p
