@Das- Tungus, as I said, is outdated. The term was spread by Russians who aquired it from the Yakuts and Siberian Tartars, the Evenks themselves tend to find it offensive. Evenk, the most common self applied name, became offical usage in 1931 repalcing Tungus. Tungus (or, rather, Tungusic) is still applicable when speaking about the language family which includes the Evenki language, formerly called Tungus which is considered among linguists, just like ethnologists and historians, to be obsolete.
