Inventory: stone spear (1)

You begin in earnest crafting a spear out of rocks and sticks in your surroundings - you aren't very good at crafting and you can tell this spear will not last long. You decide to move north, in hopes of finding suitable prey - alas you only find jungle snakes. You strike one down, spooking the others away, but it is enough to satiate your hunger for today - you eat it raw and it is unpleasant. The animal chorus of the rainforest hums deep into the evening - you spot strange beings not to disimilar to yourself in multiple directions, while a pack of elephants draw nearer. Those beautiful birds from the morning have found a new mating ground close to where you decide to sleep for the night.

Inventory: stone spear w/ rope (4), two raw fish

Straight to work, images of a complex hunting weapon stir in your mind - you spend the morning gathering reeds along the shore, fixing them into a crude rope. For the afternoon you continue working, attaching your rope to a stone spear - you have invented a spear-with-rope, a superior fishing implement. As the sun begins to set you take to the waters, keeping you cool, finding several schools of fish being coralled and eaten by a pack of dolphins. It is a perfect opportunity, and despite the dimming light, you are successful, catching three fish. You eat one at sea, and carry the other two to land, whereupon you recognize the animals of this island have taken an interest in you. Oversized hogs look on you from the hills, while snakes move nearby. The dawn breaks on a new day and you are tired.

Surrounded by weird animals, you decide move far away from where you are, foraging as you make east. The oversized hogs follow, keeping pace, until a jaguar, who had been watching you both, jumps into their pack and kills one of the younger hogs. Your foraging brings you enough plants to eat for the day, but you end up requiring many of them to be satisfied, leaving none for tomorrow. Your journey takes you up a river valley dotted with yellow tinted rocks on its banks, and as the sun sets, you notice the jaguar has followed you to this valley. You sleep near a cave for the night.

You begin your day crafting a spear out of stones and sticks nearby, before heading off to fish in the nearby river. Your efforts are for naught - you just can't seem to get a break. You decide to switch tacts, walking further east toward interesting plants. This area is drier and warmer, next to a vast desert - warming you up. Your foraging works, and the orange plants are somewhat nutritious. After eating some, you collect enough for a couple days. You are at ease during this day on the plains - but this was not to last. During the night the howls of wolves grew louder, and as the sun breaks on a new day you see lions on the horizon. You feel tired.

You walk east to a long range of hills, grabbing sticks and stones to craft a spear. A couple bears seem to follow you, but from a distance. You are hungry, and spend much of the day trying to kill a sheep for a meal - you eventually get the jump on a younger one, but as you attack, it kicks your stomach, leaving bruises. Further misfortune befalls you, as watching birds descent in large numbers on your prize not too long after, leaving you able to eat only enough raw meat for today. You make your way to a nearby patch of trees, climbing one to sleep for the night... the next morning you wake to find those bears have caught up.

You make your way, sneakily, along the river, being spotted by no predators throughout the day. You put some rocks and sticks together and make a spear that will work for a couple days at most. Not much worth hunting shows up, and so you decide to pursue some hares, catching and killing a few, eating some of their flesh raw and keeping the rest in your hands as you continue toward the lake. You find a patch of grass to sleep among. The sun rises on a new day, and diverse creatures seem to have arrived at your lake.

1) Use the local Rocks to create a sort of door to the Cave.
2) Forage while doing so
3) Try to start a fire at the cave-door

Do this all very carefully so I don't get chomped

Day 2 Orders:
1)
Craft a stone spear using nearby sticks and rocks.
2) Forage for food, maybe give those purple plants a shot.
3) Climb up and sleep in the palm tree atop the hill to the west.

Spoiler Conditional Actions :
Conditional:
2)
If the croc attacks and we manage to kill it, skip foraging and gather it's meat and hide.
3) If the area is now clear of crocs, craft a fire from sticks in the area and cook the croc meat. Choose not to sleep for this.

Avoid elephant

1) build stone tools
2) hunt something small (lizards, birds, snakes, frogs, monkeys?) while moving back southwestwards (skinning if possible/appropriate with new tools)
3) rest

Conditional:
If attacked by the elephant, run away southwestwards.

Outrun the bears:
1) Book it the heck away from those bears as soon as I see an opening, heading northeast for preference but will go whichever way is most convenient at the time. I'm rested, fed, and am one of the premier long distance runners of the animal world, I should be able to outpace them in open terrain
2) Forage as soon as I think I've lost the bears, there's some berry trees in the northeast and/or northwest that look promising.
3) Start a fire wherever I end up, just in case the bears aren't alone out there.

Tired I face two set of beasties that are not interested in social distancing from me? O-O

I will first eat one fish.

1) use my waterborne swimming skills to the other isle to the west into the part that not in my vision.

The next action will depend on the crabs I recall seeing on that other isle as well as other threats.

2A) if no crab annoys me or danger lurks then sleep.
2B) if the crabs are going to attack me then use my harpoon to hunt them.
2C) if a predator is on the isle then get on the defensive.

I will think of my original isle's snakes once I have come up with safer methods of handling them.

Oh god surround on all three side

Turn One:

1. Gather strong sticks to craft Fire to help keep beasts away (carefully/vigilance)
Free Action: Eat carrot
2. Sleep near fire with spear in hand ready if any of creatures (Lions, wolves, or scorpion) they feel like they want to tango.

1) Craft a stone spear from nearby rocks and sticks, using ma expertise
2) Hunt some of the squirrely creatures to the SW for food.
3) Use this food to try and feed and tame the fox! Spare some for myself of course.

  1. Make a bamboo spear by jamming a rock into the top of a bamboo pole. At least get a handy staff for self-protection. Surely there is some fallen bamboo that will suit my purposes, but if not, spend an additional action to fell a suitable trunk with a rock.
  2. If successful, go spear fishing. If unsucessful, hunt for bird by throwing rocks. Repeat this until food get.
  3. If I still have an ap left, make a fire to cook my meat.

Gosh and golly, it ain't exactly warm, but what a green and pleasant land I have found myself in!

See how far I can get down this list:
  • Forage for food, especially towards the coast south of the quackers, until I have enough to eat for today.
  • Reserve the last AP to sleep up a tree in that forest in the southeast at the end of the day.
  • Forage for food, especially towards the coast south of the quackers, until I have enough to eat for the next day as well.
  • Forage for Wood and Rocks
  • Make a fire of some wood
  • Make a Spear out of Wood and Rocks

Let's find some shelter!

1) Use grass to make rope, then go find a tree in the woods that's reasonably close to the lake and could be safely climbed with the aid of the rope
2) Build a fire at the base of the tree, and use it to cook and eat the meat (Presumably there will then be one cooked hare remaining)
3) Climb up the tree using the rope, then hide there and sleep. See if anything comes to check out the remains of the fire.

Action Points: 3 AP

Inventory: stone tools (4), two lizard skins, three days' lizard meat
Stashed Nearby: nothing

You start the day crafting some crude tools to help you skin creatures you kill. Unbeknownst to you, the northern gorillas draw nearer, keeping themselves hidden. You begin your hunting, looking around the lake for lizards or frogs – it is then that your ambushed. A large gorilla strikes you on the back of your shoulder but you blind it with your spear – it was a lucky hit that shocks the gorilla into retreat, which the others follow. They continue to watch you throughout your day, until you leave what you suspect was a region they consider their territory. During the hours of hunting that follow you succeed beyond your expectations, catching several lizards and even a frog. Your spear breaks apart by the end of this. You learn that the frog appears to be poisonous, and so leave it behind – with so many lizards, you didn’t have the carrying capacity anyway. You munch on your raw lizard meat and trek southwest, finding the elephants have left an open path. After the night’s sleep you wake up incredibly uncomfortable – you are starting to feel too hot and should you not find a way to cool down, you will suffer.

You eat a raw fish for breakfast as warthogs draw closer to you. You think you’ll need to fight, but they continue to mill about – you seem to have gotten lucky, and you move past them without incident. The snakes however find you walking through their grass and you are bitten twice – you use your spear to force them off of you and finally make for the isle to your west, swimming with your harpoon and last fish in-hand. As you do so, an orca makes an approach. You are on open sea, but you have a weapon and feel natural in water, and so when the orca tries to bite onto you, you dodge and get a strike in – it comes for a couple more attacks, bruising you with its sheer weight, but doesn’t hurt you critically. You assume you were being played with as it aburptly vanishes into the sea. Finally at your new island destination, you find tiny crabs that are no threat at all, as well as strange tall plants. You sleep the night and wake up feeling hot.

With a jaguar at the end of the valley, you decide to throw together a rock entrance to your cave in hopes of creating a shelter the jaguar cannot penetrate. You were hoping to forage while you did so, but primates take an interest in your activity and harass your construction – moving your stones, throwing sticks at you. Nevertherless you persist and put the finishing touches on the rock wall, enclosing yourself inside as the jaguar reaches you. Through small gaps in the wall you know the jaguar waits outside, so you make a fire for lighting and sleep the night. The cave keeps you cooler than you were in the open sun, but it is still warm, especially with the fire going. In the morning you wake and find a group of elephants have entered the area, and the jaguar is gone – but you suspect it will remember this location.

You are tired and surrounded, and you decide to make your stand here. As lions draw nearer, you throw together a fire, which does not deter them – a male lion charges at you and you use your spear to injure it, dodging its pounces and using the fire as a pivot. After one too many strikes by your spear, the lion turns back – you have, against all odds, left the confrontation unscathed. You eat your vegetables but even cooked their nutrition isn’t much more than raw foraged food. As the evening approaches and you feel at the point of collapse, the wolves have decided it is their turn to strike. Their pack comes in at you from all sides and you slip up in the scuffle – they bite you grievously. You are forced to leave your camp for a few hours, waiting for them to move on, which they do – this was just a probing attack. Back at your fire, you get some necessary rest, and wake up the next morning to a plains that is clear of major predators – though scorpions roam your camp.

The bears see you and you see them, but they leave openings for you to flee – you are patient, and when they seem to have gotten to the peak of their boredom, you jump and run so fast you don’t even see them pursue you. With this extra free time and energy you thought you needed for a long jog, you make your way toward berry bushes ahead of schedule. You find foraging these trivial, collecting enough for multiple days, and start a fire to warm yourself up, with enough time to get a full night’s rest. Your bruises heal up and next to a nice fire you don't get any colder – but without clothes you are still chilly when dawn breaks.

Today is a day of crafting. You set to work on some rope, weaving grass together – it is crude but will work. After hoisting it on a tree where you intend to sleep, you craft a fire and cook your hare meat, which provides a good meal. The animals of the lake meanwhile move considerably throughout the day – the apes and the deer migrate, and a fox pokes around your area. While you didn’t catch the attention of any predators until now, the fox breaks your cover, attracting a tiger that pounces on the fox, killing it instantly. You scramble up your tree rope and pull it up with you as the tiger eats its catch – and waits you out. You get an uneasy sleep and wake up the next morning – you are dangerously cold, having not been warmed by your fire. The fire still has some flickers going on, with the tiger sitting nearby.

A fox nearby that you hoped to entice with food takes a playful attitude with you and your prey – jumping on a squirrel and dragging it away as if to embarrass you. It also stays in the area, interested in you in a way that doesn’t read as dangerous. With no food to tame the fox, you instead get some sleep on the plains. You wake up colder than yesterday, with that tiger not far off.

You then head to the sea to try your hand at fishing – much of the day you spend failing at this, with fish just outside your grasp. Dolphins in the area also work on the fish, coordinating their attacks. You decide you must get food, and so time your next several attempts to work with the dolphins, who take kindly to you and are in a playful mood. After hours and the sun setting, you finally catch some fish, getting enough to eat tonight and perhaps another day – by the time you return to land, the sun has risen on a new day.

When you return to the trees to find a safe place to sleep however you are attacked by a crocodile – with your spear and your warrior instincts you dodge its bite and are able to gravely wound it. Exhausted, you clamber up a tree to sleep as the injured crocodile limps away. You wake up the next morning a bit hotter, and find a large beast wandering into the area.

You begin your day foraging for food, and you are successful, pulling together enough wild berries and odd plants to eat for the day and likely a couple more days ahead – though all of it not that nutritious. You make your way down the coast and setup a fire, taking several hours to bring it alight, and as the sun sets, you sleep. The fire keeps you from getting colder, but without clothes the elements still make you feel chilly. Wolves howl and when you wake up you fear they are following your scent.

Orders due for Wednesday June 3rd!

Patch Notes:

Cooked meat provides +1 AP bonus (as per prior NESCraft games), but cooking wild foraged food does not. Players can now instead eat two days' worth of foraged foods and obtain +1 AP for the next day.

The first number within the brackets of an injury indicates its duration in days.

Alright! I didn't expect to accomplish so much - but then again, perhaps I will need all the luck I can get over the next few days. Today is the first of a few "preparation days" before I set off in search of other folk like me. My checklist: a spear for multitudinous uses, clothes to wear, two days' worth of cooked meat (fish?), a bag to carry them in. My last day before the journey will be spent spear-fishing and cooking, so I'm hoping to finish making things tomorrow or the day after.

Day Two

Status: Healthy. Fed. Rested. Chilly.
Action Points: 3 AP
Traits: Forager
Inventory: two days' plants
Stashed Nearby: fire

Actions
Foraging for materials as necessary, tending the fire and eating some of my stores -
Reserving an AP to sleep up my tree -
And for the love of God giving the wolves and leopardy thing as wide a berth as is reasonably practical -
Craft Spear out of wood and rocks
Craft Linen out of grass - will use as a blanket tonight, and make into clothes another day.
Craft 2 String out of grass
Craft another Linen out of grass, this one for use as a bag

If I happen to turn up some more edible plants while foraging, so much the better, though I will not devote effort to finding them.
Where possible, do my crafting somewhere out of reach of predators, such as up a tree. That should keep me a trifle safer when I am unable to keep a proper watch.

crafting one spear, one linen, one string/rope, foraging for a day's food, each cost 1 AP, so your orders currently project 6 AP not including 1 AP for sleep.

1) Combine rope and spear to craft a retrievable spear. i.e. one which I can throw and retrieve. Given that I am frigid, I'm willing to spend 2 AP doing this very slowly if that is necessary.

If the tiger has grown tired of waiting and leaves, I will:
1) Tend to the fire
2) Go fishing in the nearby lake (if I have a remaining AP)
3) Eat and Sleep

If the tiger is still there, I will:
1) Attack the tiger with my spear from the safety of the tree, until I either kill it or it leaves.
2) Tend to the fire and Eat
3) Sleep (if I have any AP left)

Thomas.berubeg:

1 AP) Forage for Food
1 AP) Sleep in the cool of the cave

Free action: Tend the fire, keep it going. Use burning brands to repel any kind of hostile invader.
