NESLife attempt #3

Awesome. A new challenge. Now I have to think what I want to make. The asteroid was no asteroid. It was the aliens preventing my creature from coming to civilization. Note the Agonian impact.

@Daft: What does the Leaf Worm look like?

I couldn't find my creature. Apparently it was left out.

Well, with all these extinctions it should do even better:

Evolution Template:
Cyanosiphonora : Prometheus4096
Evolved from: Plankton
Genes (2): Plankton Eating x1, Photosynthesis x1
Description: Small simple organisms that grow together in large colonies, forming what appear to be large jellyfish-like creatures, floating near the surface of the ocean.
All individuals in the colony are identical and capable of sustaining themselves through photosynthesis. By excreting fluids and mucus the individual organisms together are able to form membranes creating a structure that allows them to filter out and digest plankton.
Occasionally, particularly when a colony has reached a significant size, pieces of the colony break free and slowly float away to grow into colonies of their own.

:wow: I have to go back to era 12 to find one of my creations alive! :wow:

It was bound to happen though, they had their place in the sun, and having lost 1 (!) species in total to the last two mass extinctions I guess now was my turn . Hmm, dunno if I should take this as an opportunity to do something completely new. Hmm indeed...

I am glad mine survived this event. :smug:

Daft, if I was to get back into this soemtime soon, would I still have the +1 gene all the way back from update 6?

Black Aurora: North King
Evolved from: Fire Raider
Genes (27): Eating Dead Things x1, Complex Stomach x1, Flesh eating x3, Lungs x2, Vibration Sense x1, Eyes x3, Flying x5, Crawling x1, Talons x2, Jaws x1, Cartilage x1, Skeleton x2, Water Retention x2, Cold Resistance x1, Brain Power x1
Description: The Black Aurora made a quantum leap in internal design from the Longbays, and was thus afforded its own new genus. The cartilage had been largely replaced by hollow bones, whose honeycombed structure allowed them to be almost as strong as solid bone, while being far lighter. In addition, the digestive tract evolved further than ever before: the Aurora was able to scavenge in addition to eating smaller prey.

Evolution Template:
Long Nosed Aurora : Luckymoose
Evolved from: Black Aurora
Gene added : x1 Complex Stomach, x1 Longsharp Beak, x1 Brain
Gene removed (optional, remove up to 3 or 4 with bonus):
Description: The Long Nosed Aurora is an excellent example of evolution and survival. The mass extinction left the lands empty with many small insects able to burrow into the ground and into small areas. The need to catch these insects was ever growing and the Long and sharp beak came into play. Able to stab in a small hole and drag the squirming insects out gave the Long Nosed Aurora an advantage on the field of finding food. A stronger stomach, with the ability to extract the vast amounts of protein from the insects helped as well. With the intelligence of the creature believed to be higher than the ancestors, no doubt in use for searching of burrows. The colors of the skin changed to a light brown-red. To blend in with the grounds it hunted on. Weaknesses to larger animals meant the camouflage was an early defense before flight could be taken into account.

I loved the update. I can see how neurotoxic stinger could be overpowerful. I meant it to limit the scope of the poison, but yeah, i totally see that now. Anywho, onward and upward.

Slimey Slug: NPC
Evolved from: Sea Slug
Genes (6): Crawling x1, Plant Eating x1, Stinging Tendrils x2, Plankton Eating x1, Slime x1
Description: A version of the Sea Slug that can also feed on plankton. Its stinging tendrils have increased in size and potency. A layer of mucus provides some insulation against the elements, and some protection from the spikes of Sea Urchins etc.

Evolves to

Land Mollusk: Swissempire
Evolved from: Slimey Slug
Genes (6): Crawling x1, Plant Eating x1, Stinging Tendrils x2, Plankton Eating x1, Slime x1
Added Genes(3): Breathing x1, Eating Dead Things x1, Nutrient Rich Slime x1
Genes removed: Stinging Tendrils x2
Description: The Land Mollusk is the first "land slug" and the predecessor of the Mollusk line. Evolving the traits of a scavenger and losing extraneous things, the Land Mollusk is now the perfect creature for the destroyed world. In addition, the mucus it secretes after crawling has a nourishing factor that helps replenish the soil and give new habitats for its children

I have a question: Does Plankton Eating also mean eating things like aphids or small insects/bacteria/organisms on land? If not, please remove that gene too. Also, could he be green/brown?

Hey Daft, there's a stat error I noticed. One source says that Hearty/Buggy ferns are extinct, another says their still alive.

I can post evolution trees on request.

Blood Aurora: North King
Evolved from: Black Aurora
Gene added (you can add 4): Walkingx1, Shelled Eggsx1, Parenting Instinctx1, Feathersx1
Gene removed (optional, remove up to 4): Crawlingx1
Description: As the mass extinction wiped out vast numbers of species, the Auroras managed to survive through sheer adaptability. However, they were not stagnant through the period: their legs became more powerful to give them a running start on flying, and their young were now better sheltered from the elements, and saw some basic parental care. Perhaps most importantly, however, they developed stiff feathers, which improved their wings durability while also allowing them to fly better than ever.

The update should totally be tommorow:D ;) :p

Spoiler :
Saaranix: NPC
Evolved from: Audorix
Genes (26): Crawling x2, Eating Dead Things x1, Plant Eating x2, Complex Stomach x1, Exoskeleton x2, Communal Behaviour x1, Claws x3, Water Retention x3, Lungs x2, Cold Resistance x1, Eyes x1, Walking x2, Flesh Eating x1, Brain Power x1, Live Young x1, Smelling x1, Vibration Sense x1
Description: The last few populations of Audorix were not doing very well as hunters. They were outclassed by a new generation of predators and equally-dangerous omnivores. Relying more on plants for survival, their digestive tract began to lose its ability to handle meat. Their legs grew stronger and longer, like their more advanced cousins. With a more passive lifestyle, their brainpower decreased, but their exoskeletons also grew tougher to help survive ambush by predators. Their powerful claws remained a useful tool for both feeding and fighting.

Evolves to...

Gregarix : Lord_Iggy
Evolved from: Saaranix
Gene added (you can add 3, or 4 with bonus): Plant Eating x2, Cold Resistance, Walking
Gene removed (optional, remove up to 3 or 4 with bonus): None
Description: Being the only member of Venatorixidae to survive the Knoganic Mass Extinction Event, the Saaranices were unexpectedly put into an unprecedented position to expand into new roles. Embracing their recently redeveloped herbivorous nature, Gregarices evolved. These creatures are effective and eficcient grazers, roaming through the lands of Orania in vast herds.

Pre Legger: erez87
Evolved from: LandScraper
Genes (17) : Skeleton x1, Jaws x1, Plant Eating x4, Swimming x2, Eyes x1, Water Retention x2, Lungs x3, Walking x3
Description: A new small animal that appeared in Lemunesia. Evolved from the LandScraper, they had to learn to walk faster to escape predators. Rather than running back to the already full seas they begun to go deeper into the land. Their lungs capacity grew as well as their legs - becoming more efficient, allowing them to run from the large predators all around them. They were also very small - hiding in small holes and vegetation from predators. They were sometimes known to use their larger than normal digging animals size to throw diggers out of their own holes to hide until danger leaves and than running away to another place. Fast walking and small size was their trade mark at this era. They were Ok swimmers allowing them to move across the islands of Lemunesia to reach extra lands. Soon they reached larger continents in this way and it is presumed - but still not known - that they also appeared on Heftulania. Only few remains were seen there thought those may have come on predators bellies rather than from their own little living bodies.

Double Stomach Legger : erez87
Evolved from: Pre Legger
Gene added (you can add 4 with bonus): Scavenging x1, Insect eating x1, Complex stomach x2
Gene removed (remove up to 4 with bonus): Plant Eating -1,
Description: The lands were nearly empty. Once close to extinction thanks to the Pro-Legger the Pre-legger survived the cataclysm. The Pro didn't. The vastly open dark plains were open for new opportunity. As soon as the last of the great predators was gone the Pre-Leggers already had a new adaptation. Called the Double-Stomach, this leggers evolved more complex stomachs. This stomachs could bite upon poison and acids from plants but also allowed the Leggers to taste flesh for the first time. Not being predators in any kind of way their only ways to gain this new proteins were by eating the numerous insects all around them and by feeding on dead bodies. All this new capabilities took away from the Leggers ability to digest plants most likely as their stomachs, while becoming more complex - also changed to handle this meat and proteins.

Spoiler :
Chrontrevalion: Grombar
Evolved from: Phratrevalion
Genes (30): Complex Stomach x2, Flesh Eating x3, Swimming x1, Vibration Sense x2, Eyes x2, Brain Power x1, Skeleton x2, Cartilage x1, Jaws x2, Fangs x1, Communal Behaviour x3, Water Retention x2, Lungs x1, Walking x3, Climbing x1, Parenting Instinct x2, Large Eggs x1
Description: One group or clan of the Phratrevalion line broke away during this stage of the evolutionary tree and started living and hunting more on the ground. With a stronger skeleton it was heavier and thus didn't climb as much though it could still get into the trees when it wanted/needed too (just took a bit more effort). Living on the ground and being heavier it needed to get more energy out of the food it ate and thus adapted to do such.

Travalion
Genes Added (Max 3): Flesh Eating x1, Water Retention x1, Strength x1
Genes Removed (Max 3):
Description: Staying power was the name of the game for the Travalion. With a good set of legs under it, its family close by and the senses it needed to hunt its food the Travalion was a tough nut to crack. Packs of Travalions would roam around the land following their food sources. Once the females laid their eggs the males would go out hunt and bring back food for the females that defended the babies. Once the young where old enough to move throughout the day they would get back on the trails looking for more game to hunt.

OOC: Not sure if we have complex muscles anymore or if that moved to strength. If complex muscles are still in-game I think I want those instead of strength.

To bad my new evolution with live young didn't survive. Guess that needs to wait a few updates for things to settle down and for life to pick back up. Im still surprised my *dids are still around. May have to go back to those buggers eventually and see what I can come up with.

Spoiler The Old :

Giant Quintupler: NPC
Evolved from: Quadrupler
Genes (21): Crawling x2, Plant Eating x2, Flesh Eating x2, Complex Stomach x2, Claws x3, Cold Resistance x1, Communal Behaviour x2, Brain Power x2, Eyes x1, Skeleton x1, Tough Skin x1, Large Size x1, Fat Reserves x1
Description: Gaint Quintuplers never stop growing, and they can live for a century or more. As they grow, they need more food to sustain themselves. So, they have evolved special fat reserves, which they carry as lumps on their backs, and tubular growths underneath their torsos. These can store energy and nutrients in a more efficient way. This allows them to gorge themselves when food is plentiful, and then store all the excess goodness for when times are tough.

Evolves to:

Swimtudian: c&civ3
Evolved from: Giant Quintupler
Gene added (3): Swimming +2, Eyes +1
Gene removed (optional):
Description: The Giant Quituplers having survive the asteroid impact and effects to the planet found some of them which living near some of the radioactive elements from the asteroid start to mutate to become the Swimtudians. Their feet became webbed and their tail grown long and developed a fluke. This changes allow them swim across the sea floor looking for food using their improve eyes. The Swimtudians currently like to stay near the shallow sea were most of in food is but their have being some seen in the open ocean looking food but that rare.

Thanks for not quitting this!!

I feel bad about wiping out people's creations... Im not biased against huge and/or awesome creatures! It just seemed like the right time for some destruction. I think it will make this NES more interesting in the long run. Or at least, I hope so. As for what lived and died, I tried to be impartial and realistic as possible, based on what I know (which maybe isn't alot :o)

Thanks for spotting that, they should still be alive. I changed my mind but forgot to put them back in the stats. Ive re-uploaded the stats now (the ones attached to the update).

That would be cool, but I can imagine it'd be a hell of a job. Im not going to ask anyone to do that! I might have a go with that chart program myself at some point.

Yes I dont see why not! The bonus was for the Agnolotti from era 5?

They are from Era 11, you can find the links to all the eras on the front page.

The stats are arranged in eras, if you do a ctrl+F to find the name of something in the stats, you should be able to scroll up to see what era it appeared in.

Anyway, here is all the surviving land species at this time:

Hunter Bulgorb: Crezth
Evolved from: Dwarf Bulgorb
Genes (13): Digging x2, Water Retention x2, Mass Reproduction x1, Jaws x3, Sticky Tongue x1, Flesh Eating x2, Walking x2
Description: Slightly larger than its predecessor, the Hunter Bulgorb is adapted with a tough jaw with allows it to crunch more difficult shells. The Hunter Bulgorb will patrol swamps, lake and riverbeds to find small fish and crustaceans which it will snag with its tongue and crunch down with its jaw. It is slightly speedier than the Dwarf, and retains the ability to capture bugs if the day's hunt was bad.

Flakkerbulgorb: Crezth
Evolved from: Hunter Bulgorb
Genes (16): Digging x2, Water Retention x2, Mass Reproduction x1, Jaws x3, Sticky Tongue x2, Flesh Eating x2, Walking x2, Cartilage x1, Smelling x1

Description: The Flakkerbulgorb, so named for the manner in which it "shoots down" various insects and laps up other small animals, was the first of its kind to have an actual sense and therefore grasp on the world around it. Flakkerbulgorbs relied on their jaws to protect themselves from each other and from some predators, and their sticky tongue to give them the food they needed.

Spoiler :
Cephrivervalion: The Farow
Evolved from: Rivervalion
Genes (30): Plankton Eating x1, Complex Stomach x1, Flesh Eating x2, Vibration Sense x2, Eyes x2, Brain Power x2, Skeleton x1, Cartilage x1, Jaws x3, Fangs x1, Communal Behaviour x3, Crawling x1, Water Retention x1, Lungs x1, Walking x1, Scales x1, Digging x1, Hibernation x1, Swimming x3, Parenting Instinct x1
Description: The Rivervalion went through a period of enlargement of the brain which gave it new social abilities. In order to increase the chance of survival amongst the young the pack of creatures would cooperate to protect the nest from egg raiders. As the eggs hatched the young would also be protected by the larger adults. To support the new brain the hunting abilities were substantially increased through greater cooperation and speedier swimming capabilities.

Seavalion: The Farow
Evolved from: Cephrivervalion
Gene added: Size x1, live young x1, packhunting x1
Gene removed: Walking, Digging, Fangs
Description: As the socialavalion continued its march back into the sea it was finally completed with the arrival of the Plantavalion. This large creature replaced much of the apex predators in the ocean. Shedding its legs for fins its return to the ocean was a monumental step back towards the sea. Competition was low and prey bountiful. In hard times the creature relied on its plankton as new prey. Instead of soft shelled eggs live young were given birth to instead. It made it easier for packs to protect their young rather then be stationary and vulnerable. The march back to the sea was complete.

They are whale like creatures. I intend to fill the spot as apex predator in the sea.
