New Beta Patch - 1/15

I think the vassal tax needs to be rebalanced a bit. You already get several bonuses to faith, culture, science, etc. So overall there isn't really a need to tax because on base vassals pay off. Meanwhile most vassals are really weak (that's why they are vassals), so they don't have much gpt. The last games I've played with vassals I got maybe 15 gpt if I set taxes to max, and that's at the end of the game. It's not worth it for the penalties.

That really depends. I play 43 civs and sometimes I have 20+ vassals. I give them free techs to boaster defenses and increase their outputs. At 10% tax rate I was getting over 1.7k GPT while maintenance was around 1.5k GPT if I recall correctly.

Just got a report from someone saying an AI had 7 Defensive Pacts...is anyone else experiencing this?

Apparently this bug just will not die

Another compliment to the Tactical AI. Ethiopia has a major tech lead, though my superior production and military forces are wearing him down. However, he launched a sneak attack with 3 Xcoms and immediately sniped key alumnium and oil reserves, which will likely force a pull back from me as I can't heal some key units.

Spoiler :

Were the production costs of settlers/pioneers increased lately? I'm in a Marathon speed game and settlers are so expensive that its stymied expansion well into and past the classical age, hitting the AI particularly hard. I just got Banking, and a pioneer is 7282 hammers to create. I could create like 3 wonders for that price.

It says compatible with VP for Jan '21 but Vox latest patch is Dec '20. I don't get it?
Game is crashing with the txt errors.

What should I do?

Before I attempt to figure out how to use GitHub...is anyone else getting a negative modifier for "plundering trade routes" even though you've never been at war with that particular civ?

Destination civ applies half the penalty too, but it's just -5.

I've always thought that is a feature not a bug, since I love warring so much. Can't wait for the new release!

Not once in all of the games I've seen. 2-3 seems to be the max I have had.

I have not seen this bug in any of my games from this update

Hmm. Maybe it's just that one player, or some unusual circumstances.

They should be limited to 2 + floor(# of other met civs alive / 10)...

I was able to secure 3 DP's on my Celt standard 8 player game (v1/9). I thought it might be bugged and completely forgot to inquire about it in my post.

@dailyminerals , somebody already reported this as a bug on GitHub

Humans don't have a DP limit. If you want to DP 7 civs that's your prerogative. :)

The problem was when all the AIs would do this and get stuck in gridlock.

Hotfix #2 posted, fixes a CTD and double era scaling for Veneration yields.

Original post's files have been updated.

(Savegame compatible.)

I saw it happen when I pillaged a trade route of a third civ that had sent it to that particular civ. In other words, it was a friendly trade route for that civ, instead of owned, but it counted as if it was an owned trade route.

I only play on King, but does the AI properly utilize roads, forts, and citadels on higher difficulties? The tactical AI gets better every version but the neglect of these improvements really is it’s biggest struggle right now. In my games forts are almost never built (city-states build them but major civs almost never do. Bug?) and citadels are typically abandoned after they are used to grab tiles, leaving them free to be sniped by a scout or horseman. The AI uses roads to connect cities, but never to bolster a dangerous border.

Is there any way to improve this area? They’re good about keeping cities garrisoned, so is it possible to teach them to try and keep forts and citadels garrisoned as well? Teach them to prep a border for war if their approach is hostile with the improvements in question so they can actually defend themselves?

I suggest making a post on Github.

I'm playing with just the Community Patch, and the A.I. don't seem to be using planes anymore (they have a lot but don't appear to attack or do anything with them except move them around). Which is odd, since I know they used to use them a lot before in the games I played before I applied this beta patch.

Now that you said this I think I'm noticing it too. I'm seeing a number of planes, but not a lot of air attacks.
