Hi, thank u for the last update, I really enjoed some changes in the dynamics!
I have never encountered CTD in this version.
Anyways, I couldn’t find any posts about AI here. My problem is, even when I play deity, AI have problems with warfare. Having way more units and resourses, they often retreat and concede their capital without a battle.
This problem never happens on versions 4.11 or older ones, I checked.

Is it a problem on my side (mb with cache files) or a bug?

The AI retreating too quickly is by far my biggest issue with combat. I notice it even more in how quickly they back off from an assault on one of my cities. Many times, sacrificing a couple of units would give them the city, but some short-sighted algorithm tells them it's better to retreat and live to fight another day.

It feels to me that part of the issue is that they do not readily supply reinforcements to the frontline, or they stretch themselves too thin.

Perhaps it could be over estimation of strength of the enemy forces? A number of battles early on appear to be this case. Particularly in ancient to medieval era.

Is liberating city states to remove Spheres of Influence working correctly? In my last couple games (4.17.8, no other mods), the turn after liberation it appeared that every other player had their influence set to 4500, whereas mine was set to zero. Not sure if it's a bug, if it is I can post an issue on github once I get back to my computer and can find the relevant save.

I play slowly, only one game to midgame so far. Didn't encounter mass retreat yet.
New tactic AI firstly surprised me - fighting and trading units in those cases, where before I wouldn't expect them to. Now I wage war only on purpose to study an AI's tactics bigbrain.
However, AI struggle not only with retreats, with healing his units too, apparently.
Both me and Venice had 1 musketeer from nearby CS when war began. Hit and forced his musketeer to retreat, then passed couple of turns and I paid attention that HP bar hadn't changed. I made specifically a save for it and right after that AI sent a musketeer on the frontline on a position where he would 100% die.

Spoiler IMGs :

can provide saves aswell.

And probably worth to mention - Immortal AI.

So the AI is unsure about positioning and keeps moving injured units that are supposed to sit still and heal?
and that doesnt even look like a two front war.

Positioning the cannons was apparently more important than healing the musketeer. It was probably healing on the hills.

Not a bug report as such as I'm not sure I'm correct, but has anyone else noticed oppinions from other players changing upon save/load?

I could have sworn Greece was mad at me due to rapid settling but a few turns (and a reload) later there's nothing indicating this and their attitude is friendly.

I was keeping track of them as this was the second time I've played these turns in the same game (had to go ~20 turns back) and the first time they denounced me out of the blue and declared war when I answered non-politely. I'm still in the Ancient Era and this was even though they were clearly not ready military-wise and I hadn't noticed them being mad about anything.

Unfortunately, I don't have transparent diplomacy turned on, so maybe they're just deceiving/backstabbing me.

Generally AI approaches will change gradually, but quite a few circumstances can provoke a reevaluation which instantly makes them snap to the new score.

The most probable circumstance is an increase in territorial disputes, aka LandDisputeLevel.

They may be being DECEPTIVE. They can do this even with Transparent Diplomacy on, as it doesn't reveal their true approach. The AI is sometimes allowed to transition from DECEPTIVE directly into PLANNING WAR.

I noticed a strange increase in Military supply usage after obtaining Combat Arms. I not sure if it was a straight finally getting Combat Arms or if it resulted from promoting all the soldiers (and a few tanks). I have been very careful to keep usage below capacity so not simply carelessness. ??

OK. sounds like that is a country specific thing.

For the latest version, currently playing the Celts and wanting to plant a Great Engineer for an Oppidum. However, only a Manufactory option shows up. By design or possible bug?

4UC isn't integrated yet.

I understand the AI is coded to forward settle (and this would ofc have worked on diety) but this was bad bad bad.
Because of Sparta (the forward settle 1st expansion from greece) I was able to walk all over to the west and settle Osinka/MtKilimanjaro in his face.
No matter human or other AI, it should?? understand this creates tension and maybe not the best option when you go progress?
It also meant Greece missed out on the natural wonder and the coastal western side.
All that aside, what I dont understand is that the AI normally will go miles out of the way to settle a natural wonder far far away from home, but here greece skipped one that is nearby AND very strong.

different situation -- but can confirm AI is reckless, settling where it shouldn't 🤣
My point is that the AI should have hogged the Natural wonder as it usually does, the settle would maybe have made sense for carthage or denmark (esp with authority) but def not as a cs friendly civ going progress.
Btw thats a massive map, what size do you play on?
