pre-release info New Civ Game Guide: Persia

pre-release info
So correct me if I'm wrong, but Persia still hasn't been officially announced has it? And we've had every other antiquity civ game guide released, and since then we've now had 2 exploration civs in a row.

Could it be we actually won't have Persia in base game, but we know about their styling and units because they are one of thr launch DLC civs, and we only have 9 antiquity civs?

In Ashoka First Look video, his Destroyer persona is said to be a good pairing with Persia.
The video part is linked in the OP ;).

But what actually should Persian UU be?
it best be Aswarun, a kind of Cataphract.

Persians are amongs the Horselords people. they had better cavalry than any Hellenic Mediterranean peoples did.
It was in the Ashoka video. A unit that combined swordsmen and archers, indicating that it's the Immortal again.

I don't really like this. Didn't FXis aware that Persians were the first to use Cataphracts? They had armored heavy cavalry long before anybody in the Mediterranean did, and not just by a few centuries.. millennia even! Mediterranean peoples were very late when it comes to armored cavalry, the first in the mediterranean was Roman Cataphracts, which came to exists very late (2nd or 3rd Century I think, or later), while Persians did have ones by the time Alexander III of Macedonia invaded Persia.

There's always a possibility that they could use the Aswaran for an Exploration Age Sassanid Persia, which I would prefer.

or Islamic Persia which broke away from Main Caliphate sometimes after Shia Schism escalated into a full blown war that forever divided Islam into two sects. That even the word 'Imam' has different meanings, in Sunni this term means 'any clergyman of Islam'. in Shia it means Twelve Martyr Saints (whom violently killed by Sunni 'Heretic Tyrants') and one Messiah who will emerge in the future.

In my opinion Persia is a great opportunity to have a civ from all 3 ages, just like China and India. It can go Achaemenid Persia>Sassanid Persia>Safavid Persia

As far as military UUs go it can go Immortal, Aswaran, Zamburak.

The game guide is here for Antiquity Age civ, Persia!

"The kingdom," Xshaca, or what we know as Persia, was the center of the world at its height, reigning over most of Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Anatolia. It was a strong, centralized state with efficient communication and transportation systems and a professional army, and it brought the luxuries of the world together – until the forces of Alexander the Great sent it toppling down.

Not my style of civ, but I'm loving the space it's leaving open for a cultural/militarist Assyria. :mischief:

Interestingly, this is the shortest Civ guide we have up to this point. Largely simple, straightforward bonuses.

I appreciate presenting buildings in the pictures which were still missing from my guide sheet! lol

The art for the civ and leader here are absolutely stunning. Really gets me excited for the exploration reveals coming up since we have seen so little of those civs yet even if we have an idea who they are.

What is a Hamarana Council
"Hama-" is "one, same, unified"; don't recognize -rana off the top of my head. Cf. Hamadan = "place where we sit as one," roughly.

Noticing it's just called "Persia."

if this post gets 50,000 likes, Firaxis has to change the name to Achaemenid Persia to make roof for Sassanid and Safavaid Persia later on.
If they ever want to do add those civs, FXS will just change the name in the patch. We've already seen city-states being renamed once their full civ is introduced, that's quite similar.
