New CivIV Screenshot from E3

@777 : The civ2 like warrior, with the little shield?

I don't exactly don't know what you're asking? Healthbar thingy? Well not like in civ2. I think that, hard to explain, but if you attack two out of groups advance and rest of them stay at back. If two first dies, then another two is sent from back to fight and etc. 'till the fight is over. I hope I'm not writing total BS here, since I'm not sure what you asked :)

I am loving this game's potential more with every screenie!

:D

The terrain is excellent, and I reckon that is a little ruin above the phalanx.

.

@ 777: I didn't understand your question, and you misunderstood mine. I tought you were asking wht unit is it the non-spear unit was. I think it may be warriors, since they ressemble civ2 warriors, which had a shield (not the colored one). Sorry

I very much doubt they've done away with some sort of Health bar indication. It's probably an option they've just turned off so it doesn't mess up their pretty screenshots. I know personally it would be very frustrating without having some sort of indicator, and I'm sure that would be true for other people as well, as they must know...

The more I think about it, the more I think that it IS a health indicator. Where do you see another? Maybe it is just not there.

Well, it may very well be that the number of figures DOES indicate health, I just don't believe they would make it so that was the ONLY visual indicator.

I think there is a health indicator on the interface, gotta check the ealier screenshots I posted.

I just had a look at the civ IV prerelease-forum, which has this to say about the units:

topic V Your Forces

* Something that has been ameliorated is the battle system. It has been made to actually encourage (but not force) players to use the array of forces they have. Players will be able to group units, as an interface change. This has been changed so you will favor most different units, and not stick to your most powerful, for instance

* The game will also be using multi-unit graphics for individual units, they will also be carrying banners

Me too, the graphics just look gorgeous!!

About the building(?) maybe it's a barbarian hut or some kind of terrain improvement?

I think you are right, sir!

It seems to be a mine - Notice the wheel part on the side...
I hope the mines graphically upgrade with the eras..:)

The terrain looks very similar, kinda like snoopy's...

I like the mulitfigure units. It's a better way of representing how experienced they are. Maybe 1 figure=100 men or something.

Looking good.

I am still awaiting screenshots of the navy and airforce ;).

You know, I like Civ as is, so a new version should tweak the current one, but c'mon - this looks the same as Civ3 now. The terrain...boring...need Sn00py's graphics in there, and the units (granted a bad scanned picture resolution) don't look that great. Why all this trouble for 3D if the end result looks so close to what the 2D offers?

I agree, the multi-units have got to go, still I would rather see a 'smart army' view of various units as a multi-unit than the old 'stack.'

Interested in seeing how this works out, but I'm keeping the current thought at nervous.

Glad you can count, what's your point?

If you think you can best the graphics, then do it. Make your own civ game.

I think the terrain will do the job for me. Especially if the view can be rotated, etc.

Again, why judge the game when the final result is months away?

.

Damn, relax - it's a forum, filled with opinions.

The point is, why should a consumer pay more money for something that's equal to or slightly worse - or heck, even only slightly better - than something else they already own. People are merely discussing their feelings at this point, raising various issues - hoping that some of these programmers are lurking and can maybe say 'hey, they're right.'

It looks better than regular Civ III, but not as good as Snoopy or Rhye's terrain mods. The trees look horrible (too sparse), the mountains don't fit in, and the units appear less detailed.

On the other hand I think the animation will be 10x better because of 3d. Also I want to see if there is *animated* landscapes. The waves in the ocean crashing, trees blowing in the wind, etc. That will/would be really cool. Also we haven't nearly seen everything so I think the good will far outweigh the bad, graphically.
