You need to read some more of this thread.
You have no property rights. Games are not a subject of property rights, that is the whole deal.
Problem? Problem.... Problem! Most consumers don't care because most consumers don't really understand the situation.
Paradox seem to be going down the tube as well. I do agree that some osrt of organised movement is necessary to keep up the good companies afloat.... However from where I sit they seem to be sinking more than floating.I don't agree that cool publishers are dying off, though. There exist a significant and I believe growing number of smaller studios who care about our fair use rights pumping out quality games. They are getting community support via kickstarter campaigns or just word of mouth. We totally need to support companies like that if we want to "win" this "fight", but.. there are also bigger companies like Paradox and Valve who I would put in the same category.
"I will do everything for you my child" kind of service? It all depends if dad has good intentions. I don't think that limiting the freedom of the user is a good thing in that respect. If your console is connected to the internet, it will auto-update the game. Steam has an option to turn off patching. Why? Because Valve understands modding communities and patching issues. People hating on Steam as some kind of tyrant of PC gaming is beyond me. Steam saves me so much money and unifies so much of my activity without a monthly fee.
Personally, the most creepy thing about the new XBox is that Kinect will always be on and online.
With that you have LITERALLY the Big Brother telescreen in your home, straight from 1984.
MS doesn't even think there's anything wrong in listening to private conversations to determine personalized ads. I give it zero days before governments will demand access to their logs.
CNET: There seems to be some confusion here about the ability to resell Xbox One games, or reuse Xbox One games among other users.
Henshaw: Let me clear that up unequivocally. Xbox One will support the reselling and used game market for Xbox One games. We have not announced details about exactly how it's going to work, or how licenses are going to be exchanged. That's all coming up later in the year. What we have announced is that a used game ecosystem will be supported, so people can breathe easy. They will be able to get used games.
CNET: Kinect now needs to be on all the time. But there are obviously some people who say "I don't want this camera in my living room."
Henshaw: If you want privacy, we'll give you modes that ensure your privacy. And we actually have a little bit about this on the Web already. We will have something similar for the Kinect with Xbox One. The system is designed to have Kinect be an integral part of the experience. It's not the case where you'll be able to remove the camera altogether. But you'll be able to put the system in modes where you can be completely secure about the fact that the camera is off and can't see you.

Also I don't understand how "Valve understands modding communities and patching issues".
Or you can buy a good computer and switch entirely to PC gaming.I'm pretty bummed out, since I really liked my 360 and was all set to buy an XboxOne, even at full price, but this decision will probably price me out. Guess it's Playstation4 or bust for me.
I am a little confused by this "has to always be on" thing. Why, exactly, is that? Will you break it if you unplug it whenever you are not using it?
Oh. Well....derp. OF course it has to be on to be utilized. I was getting the impression that the unit for whatever reason had to be on 24/7 for some bizarro reason even if it was just sitting there not being actively used.
It's kind of a one-way mirror to the living room of every Xbox One owner. One Scottish nightclub is under fire for installing two-way mirrors in its women's bathrooms, providing quite the show for male patrons in expensive, private booths.
The Shimmy Club in Glasgow, Scotland, aroused controversy last week when photographs from its ladies' room surfaced, showing women standing in front of mirrors that patrons in private booths could look through, according to The Scottish Sunday Express.
The club allegedly charges 800 pounds (about $1,200) to book a booth.
Some customers are furious.
I think people here talked about automatic updates amongst other things.Steam hardly does "everything for you." Steam does not limit your freedom in anyway, offline mode much?
Really? It hasn't been my experience. I now understand what you mean't but still can't agree.Valve understands modding because they actively implement modding resources and the workshop for games so that players CAN mod games with ease. They know some people wish to not auto-update for mod reasons, so the option to disable it is there.
No, it was just fine. Even now if I loose my computer AND internet connection I can still re-install my games on a new laptop. The Steam hate by some people is just silly. Do any of you even remember how frustrating it was to deal with physical media?
Oh. Well....derp. OF course it has to be on to be utilized. I was getting the impression that the unit for whatever reason had to be on 24/7 for some bizarro reason even if it was just sitting there not being actively used.
Bingo!Talked about this some with friends...
The last console I had was SNES and the reasons I didn't get Playstation/Xbox/Dreamcast were that:
..
- Cannot backup or edit save games
...
- Cannot mod
...
Yeah, the Xbox One will require you to connect online regularly and have the kinect always on and plugged in even for SP. Also this lovely news about how the Kinect recognizes unknown people and asks them to identify themselves and then stores the information.

Its pretty much the ultimate marketing research box now, and Microsoft will have access to ALL that data and use it for the ads they already show on the 360. Plus they could use it for a lot more things, like enforcing how many people can view a rental movie.

Paradox seem to be going down the tube as well.
In what way?
