None Shall Pass 2 [Game Thread - Concluded]

What happens if your entire post is a lie to kill off Winston and your 'source' is another innocent townie?

Possible, though in this case it looks more like a third party making an early play than a standard mafia gambit if we assume Snerk is lying, unless Winston randed a hell of a role to sacrifice for. Still, its day 2, so pushing Count and Winston to the forefront seems reasonable. There is also the unlikely possibility the messenger wanted Winston dead, though choosing to echo Tak and jot simply state their intent seems bizarrely oblique.

Third on bandwaggon is mafia, so clearly Legato is scum (assuming Winston is innocent, of course).
Let's just say that they are not exactly flattering.
 Have you been employing detectives to take pictures of players in the crapper again?

You asking or do you know something? :hide:

Well… there's… someone… outside…

and I know what you did last game!

Then I have bigger balls than I ever imagined. I'd also eventually get lynched for it.

Sure, but you might take a few people down with you. Is that trade worth it? Maybe, maybe not. It depends on what you know about Winston.

So could you perhaps say a bit more about what the scanner told you? Was it just that Winston is "not town?"

If I know I'll die for it, it's never worth it.

Scanner has a town/not-town scan. Winston came up as not town, i.e. probably scum.

I'm not town. I can win with the town, but only if I survive and meet certain other conditions, which is never going to happen now. As I said to Zack after he clarified in-thread that factions must survive to win (as a response to my mistaken assumption to the contrary), for someone as frequently targeted as me, it was always going to be pretty much impossible to get a win from this role. As it was, I'd just been hoping to have a decent few days of hunting Morgothians before getting killed by one side or other.

I'm also the source of BSmith's 'rumour' about Count Dingdong, who I scanned last night as being both evil and opposed to my VC, which means he's very likely to be on the Morgoth team. All I ask now is that you lynch him today, and that the vigs hold off killing me tonight, so I at least have a chance to fulfill my personal goal. As an incentive, if you do save lynching me for tomorrow, I'll give you all a full explanation of my role and powers before I die: information which will certainly aid your hunt for the scum.

Interesting - I can only speculate what alignment may mean but my own role and those that i have talked to have nothing that indicates the purpose of alignment. You able to shed light on this?

That seems like a reasonable offer from Winston, if only to set the cat amongst the pigeons.

Vote: Count Dingdong.

I'm confused... Winston just said he's not town, and we're voting for the other guy he fingered? What am I missing?

I think we can assume that Morgothians are evil. Whether they show up as such will depend on whether or not they have any kind of scan protection or deflection ability. My best guess is that most of them, at least, won't have any such ability.

For everyone else, I figure that alignment serves as a way of distinguishing between roles beyond VCs and abilities. There will be evil people on the town side - I've explicitly been told this - and good people on non-town and, possibly, anti-town teams. Alignments, and the possibility of their being revealed, will also restrict players' ability to cook up cover roles. Like personal goals, they also give people information that can be exchanged in private, which is always a plus in a game like this. I'd also hazard a guess that some people have PGs relating to alignment.

Because 'not town' and 'anti-town' are not the same thing. And because I fingered the guy before anyone fingered me, for no reason other than that it would benefit the town's (and thus my) cause.

Winston said what he had to say. He will not give away any information that decreases the chance of success for his faction. Be that Sith or another less anti town faction.

If you're pro-town, Winston is by far our best lynch choice today. The only thing that could change my mind was a full role reveal from Winston today.

I'm all for getting some info out of Count but I'm sure he'll be thoroughly scanned, blocked and probed tonight.

Incidentally, as you get deeper into the game, the townies amongst you ought to bear in mind that the guy with the town/non-town scan might himself be a Morgothian. Given the powers ranged against them - and what I've seen so far suggests that's a lot - giving them such a scan would make sense as a way to allow them to infiltrate any town networks that emerge. Obviously, it's also quite possible he's town; just don't assume possession of the ability equals confirmation of that.

You've already admitted to been not town. This just reads like you're trying to buy yourself a day. Only thing that'll get me to not vote for you is revealing your full role today, not a promise of a maybe reveal tomorrow.

I like third parties. I say keep Winston. Hell you guys were happy to have a Serial killer lead the town and a network.last Time. Forcing scum to use an unblockable daykilled or something on Winston is better than a townie. He is worth more alive And not enough dead.
