Nuke Nes: After Victoria

Oh joy. Good thing I didn't turn in my orders yet. :mischief:

*Runs off to plot UCSA's destruction with my ridiculously huge navy.*

Nukes are not going to end NES. Nukes OTL have not ended war. Come on guys, be intelligent.

I will settle the nukes later, but I have only 3 orders in, and the due date is in 48 hours, please dont make me extend :(

I know, but usage of nuclear weapons in NESes have completely been unrealistic.

Consider EQ's NES. Would the US actually use a nuke on its own lands to get rid of terrorism? Would Italy shoot down the plane of an ally to prevent a nuclear attack on its enemies during a world war? Would Germany have the insane bravery to launch a nuclear strike simultaneous attack on every nation in Europe?

Consider Carmen's NES. Are the US that determined to end the world and fulfill MAD?

Nuke are extremely irritating in NESes as they are used unrealistically.

I could've sworn I put Saturday. How about Sunday?

1. I concede that this way would have lead to the least loss of death, something which probably could have been pushed through the board of advisers that the President had. The Americans probably treat their South American conquests not even as properly American anyway. They're probably still second-class citizens and what not.

2. I don't recall the details of this.

3. The Nazis never got their hands on nukes, but I'm confident that they would have done this kind of stuff.

If number one was the case, then the United States would have nuked Iraq and/or Afghanistan years ago.

And it still doesn't explain the German holocaust taking place in TWTUD.

No leader in the world (right now) has the bravery to engage in a nuclear strike (hence China's refusal to engage Taiwan) (Pakistan's refusal to use nuclear weapons against India during their war) (the USSR's agreement to back out of Cuba). If the leaders of the world today refuse to use it out of fear of death or fear of the end of the world, then what makes the leaders of this NES different? I think nuclear weapons should be discarded in this NES.

they may not end war, but they put a VERY low upper limit on the scale of war, and eliminated the possibility of a major power going to war with another major power. in short, the Ruined War, a very Natural and essential outlet and control factor on the human race.
I am Not willing to expand my reasoning on this. you guys would never look at me the same if I did, and it goes against a lot of the present popular thinking.

I'm thinking that your thinking that the elimination of war has caused extremely poor repercussions on this planet. The lack of war amongst the major powers of the world has caused overpopulation, global warming, lack of resources, and the over usage of drinking water. :p

We don't own Iraq or Afghanistan either. And plus there would be tons of civilian casualties. We specifically set up so we were isolated so we wouldn't harm civilians. Yes, we were noble. And that's why we got pwned.

Right, who has nukes right now? A lot more people, I think. Plus, who would raise a finger? They have nukes. Nukes were used to stand the Korean War down, you must remember. They weren't fired, but the threat is often enough. So Nazi Germany's crazy, they actually go through on the threat.

Oh, and I detest war. If everybody thought like me, there would be no war. :p

Do you actually think Hitler would have used them? After Mao Zedong didn't use them? After Stalin didn't use them? No, I don't think he would have been unintelligent enough to start a nuclear holocaust.

The only reason the United States used them on Hiroshima was because there was no chance of a retaliatory strike as Facist Japan had no nukes.

EDIT: And I think that nuclear weapons weren't used to bring the Korean War to a close. They only served to limit the escalation of the war. If there were no nukes in 1950, World War IV would have occurred.

Stalin died in 1953. The first atomic bomb, Joe 1, was tested by the Soviets in 1949. :p He had 4 years to ponder his decision before he up and died. Some even say that he was murdered. We just don't know. But I really do think Hitler would have been crazy enough to use nuclear weapons.

Right.

Right, there was the threat of nuclear war. But it's not that big of a leap. Brinkmanship requires that you actually go to the brink of war and be willing to commit. Any mistake, any provocation, could have easily led to an all-out war.

Ah. Then the United States must have been pretty lucky throughout the Cold War. Korea. Cuba. Vietnam. Afghanistan.

You’re assuming that the policy of nuclear deterrence is false. There is a reason why it was the de-facto foreign policy of the United States during the later stages of the Cold War. ;)

Every country follows the principles of mutual assured destruction, whether it be subconsciously or consciously. This is why there will never be a World War until nuclear weapons are rendered obsolete.

ask this question, as the Idea of nuclear deterrence occured yet in TWTUD yet? or do they still consider nukes a Mere Strategic weapon? has anyone their had the Idea "if we build enough nukes to kill everyone in the world, nobody will dare attack us!" ?
from what I have read, no, they have not yet, besides possibly the USA. Germany and Italy both possed only a small number of nukes. less then a dozen each, and germany removed most of Italy's capacity to use those nukes at the start of the war by eliminating their airforce.
I expect it to devlop shortly, as more and more nukes are produced. that war is probobly the Last Great war to be fought by the major powers in TWTUD. so enjoy it.

No, the policies of nuclear deterrence or MAD do not apply to NESes because real lives are not at stake. Hence the reason why nuclear weapons shouldn't be allowed in this NES.

EDIT: Damn it! Are you saying Free France will be gone soon? :( I should have stuck with Korea. ;)

maybe we can have nukes be less devastating...

This is where roleplaying comes along. If you're a real political leader with real people's lives in your hands, with a real world to lose, with real foreign relations to handle, with real consequences to face, will you be willing to nuke millions of people into obliteration?

Of course, I'm thinking that roleplaying comes only secondary to metagaming for a lot of us. :(
