The Fall of the Eleventh
Taharnnen Government
Since the dawn of time, Taharnnen has been a tribal society. Chiefs are elected by the people - the people have the power to force them out. Once the Taharnnen became a federation, however, some changes had to be made. The original five tribes still retain a significant amount of autonomy. However, every year all the tribes, major and minor, meet at the nation's capital. There they trade their wares, go about official business, discuss the direction the nation is to take over the next year.
They also have a High Chief.
Much like the Celts in our reality, the High Chief is elected by the chiefs of all the tribes (who, in turn, have been elected by their tribes). They have the power to depose him, and a High Chief is elected every five years. An individual who is currently High Chief may not become High Chief again in the next five years.
The latest High Chiefs have been very busy indeed.
Taharnnen Society in This Period
After Re'hal Torik's exploits, and those of his successors, Taharnnen influence grew quickly. They controlled several trading villages up the coast of I'serth (OOC: Africa) - but these villages were isolated, and hardly sustained themselves.
To combat this, the more recent High Chiefs underwent the construction of a road up the coast of I'serth. With this road, it became a simple task to transport goods all the way up the coast - and villages grew and thrived the whole way along the road. This road became known as the Ota Coti Larca, or Great Coast Road. It helped expand Taharnnen influence north like never before.
The Taharnnen name for their homeland - I'serth - grew to mean the entire continent on which they lived.
