Nuke Nes IX: Genesis and Armageddon

Taharnnen Government

Since the dawn of time, Taharnnen has been a tribal society. Chiefs are elected by the people - the people have the power to force them out. Once the Taharnnen became a federation, however, some changes had to be made. The original five tribes still retain a significant amount of autonomy. However, every year all the tribes, major and minor, meet at the nation's capital. There they trade their wares, go about official business, discuss the direction the nation is to take over the next year.

They also have a High Chief.

Much like the Celts in our reality, the High Chief is elected by the chiefs of all the tribes (who, in turn, have been elected by their tribes). They have the power to depose him, and a High Chief is elected every five years. An individual who is currently High Chief may not become High Chief again in the next five years.

The latest High Chiefs have been very busy indeed.

Taharnnen Society in This Period

After Re'hal Torik's exploits, and those of his successors, Taharnnen influence grew quickly. They controlled several trading villages up the coast of I'serth (OOC: Africa) - but these villages were isolated, and hardly sustained themselves.
To combat this, the more recent High Chiefs underwent the construction of a road up the coast of I'serth. With this road, it became a simple task to transport goods all the way up the coast - and villages grew and thrived the whole way along the road. This road became known as the Ota Coti Larca, or Great Coast Road. It helped expand Taharnnen influence north like never before.

The Taharnnen name for their homeland - I'serth - grew to mean the entire continent on which they lived.

If you will accept a new culture. :D

Culture Name: Deltans (Derived from people of the rivers.)
Core Value: Honor
Location: Texas
Aggression: 4
Expansion: 2
Cohesion: 3
Agriculture: 3
Sophistication: 3
Nation Names: Karankawa, Sabine, Neuces, Lavaca, Lampasas
City Names: Karan, Saber, Neuces, Lacav, Sasamp.
Ruler Names: Achak, Gudahi, Kotori, Nahuel.
Description: The Deltans are people with a deep respect and appreciation of the Rivers, their communities always expanded along rivers. This was more or less required for survival in the fierce heat of their regions, relying on the rivers for their agricultural and water needs.

They primarily follow a God that lives in the water and provides for them when they pay blessings or sacrifices in national crises, or if they happened to anger the Gods they get slammed by a force so powerful they have taken to calling them Hurrucanes, (Hurricanes) and learned that only a human sacrifice will placate the Gods and send the Hurrucane away. So grand altars are built in the capital of ever nation and smaller ones in all other communities.

These people are also so protective of their water sources that they would go to war on the drop of a hat if it meant securing more sources. Whether they be rivers, lakes or other body of water. As a result their standings among the smaller native tribes that share the lands with these Deltas, have learned to either make friends and placate these Deltas by granting access to their water sources, or accept being assimilated by them. So their culture revolves around a dominate male society who manages government affairs and wages war, while the women are allowed to cook and farm and other menial tasks that men believe they are too elitist to do.

Their governments are mostly republics, in which the water resources are shared among the various towns or cities living in the nation, rather than hoarded by a selfish king. There are of course exceptions, a popular general may launch coups and assume a military dictatorship and hoard his water for himself, but his honor is then shattered and his soldiers kill him. For the most part, the communities within the nation are organized towns or cities so their water supplies are more managed and easier to control, irrigation ditches dominate the landscape of these nations and are a point of pride for these Deltans.

The Deltans are fairly medium skinned, (think Native Americans) and have strong national pride which is tied to their demand for honor, many will not shun the answer to arms if their community falls under attack nor would they so easily give their neighbors the cold shoulder if the neighbor suffers an emergency, such as low water supplies or low food supplies. They generally wear a loincloth to cover their genitals and many women have elected not to cover their chests in an attempt to be accepted by the men who simply do not care and accept it as a part of their culture.

OOC: I hope the description is deep enough to cover my Culture.

I'm sure Nuke will be fine with that (although it's probably worth waiting for Nuke to say something).

As always welcome aboard :)

To the Great Nation of Albast,
From The Elected King of the Republic of Çekirdeksel,

We wish to re-establish trade with you and establish peaceful borders with you. Will you recognize territories west of the Rhone that we currently occupy as ours? If so, we can have peace and through trade bring wealth to both our nations.

We can agree to this.

Republic of Albast Orders;
Spoiler :

-Continue to expand into Slovenia and down the Dalmatian Coast
-Trade with our neighbors and increase our wealth
-Continue to modify and improve our army
-Continue to work on important technologies

-Government Notes;
A republic, with an elected senate (by all land owning males), the "head of state" is the leader of the senate, just call him that I suppose..

If any of you would like to develop flags/symbols/insignias, whatever, that would also be awesome. Keep in mind though, flags can and will change (England to Great Britain to UK), which can be good if you like variety :)

Supply Requisition Form

City of Ziy-Shek,

We regret to ask, but the constant raids on Oijik-Shek has caused a noticeable decline in supplies. We are desperately in need of armor, keigi, mounts, arrows, and other such weaponry. We are hoping to raise an army of about 5 kruoga (Translator note: Literally, Companion parties, about 1000 per Krouga). We are also in need of food that could help us last for two cycles. It would be greatly appreciated.

Okiba of Oijik-Shek, Noitaa Clan, Chief Officer of Supplies

City of Oijik-Shek,

Certainly. For the keigi, you will need to fill out Requisition Form IG-01, which will require signature from either the Prii of Oijik-Shek, or a member of the Shek Governing Council who has the rank of at least Ouji or higher. The form states that you will not be using the weapons to arm peasants for a rebellion. Furthermore, you will need IG-13 for the mounts, IG-08 for mount weaponry, IL-017 for the armor, and IL-009 for the arrows. In addition, I am attaching Form IR-012 with my letter. I request you complete it so that my superiors may note that this correspondence took place. In addition, you have the option of keeping this private with Form IR-015, which states that this correspondence may not be used to train future workers of the Central Council. Your requisition for grains cannot be handled by me, and I will return a copy of your letter. I recommend transferring the letter to Ubioto-Shek. Best of luck,

Jaob of Ziy-Shek, Daytoa Clan, 46th Officer of the Central Committee, Committee on the Distribution of Military Supplies.

City of Ziy-Shek,

Although normally, I would relay the appropriate forms, there simply isn’t enough time, with intelligence reporting that there will be a major assault upon our city in less than a cycle. Is there any way you could speed up the process?

Okiba of Oijik-Shek, Noitaa Clan, Chief Officer of Supplies

City of Oijik-Shek,

Why certainly! While I will need to gather the necessary forms from your city, if you were to file form IR-031, it would allow me to deal with your issue much more quickly. We will look over your file, and we will determine if it is an emergency, and if so, we will offer form IR-046, which will allow you to requisition emergency supplies. In the meantime, I can no longer issue correspondence with you until form IR-012 is completed and you either complete IR-015, or you state your intention to not file it.

Jaob of Ziy-Shek, Daytoa Clan, 46th Officer of the Central Committee, Committee on the Distribution of Military Supplies.

City of Oijik-Shek,

We received both Form IR-012, IR-031, and your stated intention of not completing IR-015. Unfortunately, we cannot classify your case as a possible emergency, and will be proceeding with your forms as if we received them today. If you wish to appeal, you must submit form IR-088 asking to appeal IR-031. If not, please submit IR-076 to state your acceptance of the denial of your request.

Jaob of Ziy-Shek, Daytoa Clan, 46th Officer of the Central Committee, Committee on the Distribution of Military Supplies.

City of Oijik-Shek,

We have received word on your supply issue. Due to the coming assault on Oijik-Shek by the forces of the Eros, the Eros has ordered that all supplies concerning Oijik-Shek be given top priority. Due to the assault on Oijik-Shek by our own forces, we will not be able to supply your defenders with much, but we may be able to supply you with enough equipment to outfit 2 krouga. Unfortunately, your Prii has not sworn allegiance to the Eros, and is working with the Kobuek, causing you to be in a different country. There will be a 28% tax on the goods, is that acceptable?

Jaob of Ziy-Shek, Daytoa Clan, 46th Officer of the Central Committee, Committee on the Distribution of Military Supplies.

City of Ziy-Shek

If we are not a city in rebellion, but rather, a city in defiance to the Eros, would that allow the tax to be reduced?

Okiba of Oijik-Shek, Noitaa Clan, Chief Officer of Supplies

City of Oijik-Shek,

If you fill out the form IR-084, you will qualify as a city in defiance, and it will reduce the tax to 23%.

Jaob of Ziy-Shek, Daytoa Clan, 46th Officer of the Central Committee, Committee on the Distribution of Military Supplies.

Haha Terry Pratchet snafu in Roy-et

As our world grows and grows, we will come in contact with other tribes of people. At first (for some of you), you will likely be friendly. After all, you just met new people who can offer things that you don't have, they seem to be nothing like those pesky barbarians. But sometimes, war is just the only way to go. So let's make this easier, and make it so I can understand your objectives more, and in a way, understand your culture more.

NOTE: This is NOT required. However, this is the format I (Or you) could easily put on the Wiki page, so when we need to refer to past wars, we can with ease :). Plus it just makes everything more enjoyable and fleshes out your culture a bit

Let's start with a basic template

Name: Reassertion of Dayesh Supremacy
Type: Full Scale Campaign
Dates: 550 B.C.-531 B.C.
Leader(s): Eros Anya III
Objective(s): Reunify Roy-et
Important Battle(s): Battle of the Burning Hill, Siege of Oijik-Shek
Description: After finishing fifteen cycles, Anya of the Dayesh Clan knew she had to restore the rule of the Sun over her people. Outmanuvering older cousins, siblings, uncles, and even her own father, Anya became Eros of Roy-et. At first, she extended the olive branch; due to the more specialization of the Sheks, most Clans did not have self sufficiency, and their Prii were desperate for funds and weapons. Anya entered a strategic alliance with several of the stronger Prii, and they helped raised an army to do battle with the Kobuek. The Dayesh and her allies outnumbered the Kobuek 5 to 1, and the only hold out was Oijik-Shek, which was finally brought down in 543 B.C. After the Kobuek were defeated and bowed down to Eros Anya, she turned her attentions to the warring clans of the south. She would simply play them off on one another, and would wipe out the weaklings that became tired from constant war. One Chief, Hai-Oba, saw this, and in an effort to stay free from the Dayesh, many of the clans banded together for the Battle of the Burning Hill. Originally, the Burning Hill was a small fort that Anya used to maintain control over the region, but an all out assault on it turned to be the most important part of the war. The region, which was in a drought, was significantly dry, and the Dayesh general ordered the entire hill be set on fire. Thousands upon thousands burned, and though the compound was lost, Anya sent a second army to reconquer the region, setting herself as the sole ruler of the Abba people once more.

Name: What are you going to call your War? Could be "The Conquest of Bu Blathe", the "Seven Years War", whatever. Just give it a name, and we'll go with it, especially if you win.

Type: Is it a series of organized raids? State sponsored piracy? Full dress army? Anti Banditry? A combination? If in doubt, just ask :)

Dates: Obviously, you’re not going to have a 200, 300, or 500 year long war. It can be a continuation, and you can always ask if more campaigns would be needed. After all, it’s not like your culture wouldn’t be able to respond to “oh look our 5 Year war failed, let’s just sit around waiting for the next 295 years.”

Leaders: Who is leading it? Kings? Queens? Emperors? Empresses? High Generals? A Prince? A peasant? Who knows? Only you. Please note only the leaders on your side.

Objectives: Conquer Vanuka, unify the British isles under Scontia, repulse Sillak from Kyushu, capture slaves, whatever you want to do.

Important Battles: Sieges, fields, whatever you want, if necessary, please denote if battle is naval

Description: What you’re attempting to do. If it’s inner cultural, generally I will let you have free reign, and will intervene only if needed (Your incredibly fragmented culture with no cohesion bands together under one King, and then goes off to conquer France.) If it’s against another player, please just say details of preparations, why the war started, maybe early moves and general strategy. Leave the outcomes to me :)

Hikatari Clan -

Various rulers (called Ryuns, only one of them at a time, can be male or female) have sent ambassadors to the small villages up North in an effort to get them to submit to Hikatari rule. For the most part they consent, hearing whispers of our supposed military might. If they consent, we let them keep their village traditions. Some think they can refuse us taking them over. They can't. We march our soldiers on their land and install a mini-despot to make their life miserable for a couple centuries until we think they've learned their lesson of daring to defy us.

The society of the main cities of our empire, for the most part steeped in Hikatari culture, has a huge emphasis on honor and family values. Citizens have been known to commit suicide if they have been too heavily dishonored, a tradition encouraged by high-ranking officials. The upper and middle classes, mostly merchant and artisan based, are particularly affected by this tradition.

3 cities have arose to relatively great heights in the empire. Hin-shi-sa, the capitol Pasakote, Lusaka are all cities that the Hikatari have made the 3 main cities by Ryuns. Tributes from the countryside are distributed between the three (though not equally). Noble families have begun to purchase peasant villages in order to get extra income via tribute.

The Sillak of the southern island are generally ignored. As of now the Hikatari have no plans to invade, but whenever Sillaks come into Hikato-lan proper they are ostracized. If ever the Sillak thought of invading Hikatari land, they could be destroyed.

The Inland Sea has become a main area of trade and conquest. As such, more efficient boating designs have been created in Hikato-lan. Very large vessels with rice-paper sails and sea-dragon designs were commissioned to be built Hin-shi-sa in order gather tribute as well as to transport goods.

The Wiki has been updated with ALL of your cultures, feel free to start adding :)

Nannukan Calendar, The Weknobmut Dynasty

Lunar-Calendar-02.bmp

The Nannukan Calendar is mostly based off the Ut's Calender. However, theirs started on B.C. 793 at the Burning of Kemad coinciding with an Eclipse (Generally thought to be the angered Ancestors blaming the current Nannuk for the loss of their final resting place.) The fleeing Refugees were joined by a priest named Weknos Dekadmut who managed the Great Shrine used to silent the ancient generations of Nannuk who were lost to slavery or to defilement when the Ut conquered Nannuka during the first exodus. He drew up the organized beliefs of the Nannuk concerning the Afterlife and Ancestors, Honor and Heros, Spirits and Sacrifices and drew the Calendar onto the Iron Hills of Vanuka as a new Shine of Defiled Ancestors using a saved tombstone from his old shrine.

Although some called it simple economics, the fortunes of Vanuka begun to turn. He was given the crown of Vanu-Serat by Seratmut Ponab III on his deathbed, starting the Weknobmut dynasty.

However, at his death another solar eclipse occured over northern Vanuka. Upon seeing it he declared that the spirits will never be satisfied until all of Kanuka and Nannuka can be cleased with the blood of the oppressors and the shrines rebuilt for the fallen heros.

His son Weknobmut Hetas reorganized the Army and started the first War of Vanukan Reconquest against the Ut.

Table of Contents set up!

I am confused about the culture names: should I change it to be The Nannuk and The Ut, or is it fine now? I am also tired from linking each page one at a time because some times The+X doesn't work, and even then having to put in The for every link is annoying.

Finally, I'm revamping the Nannuk page to be more of a cultural overview, and shifting history to other pages.

From Bu Blathe
To the Republic of Albast

Ho! Worthy foes, we ask, let there be peace and trade, not war with our nations. What say you?

From Bu Blathe
To the Kingdom of Synt

Return the cities of the Cayun to our allies, and withdraw back to the Great Mountains, and there can be peace. Otherwise, prepare for war.

72 Hour Warning

OOC: Sorry for waiting this long.
Orders:
Spoiler :
The Psion confederation will disband and join the Empire against the new threat to the north. It will begin major fortifying of the northern areas and continue to expand to the east and south. They will try to establish trade with their new neighbors. Overall technology will just be improved upon and minor experiments into more advanced metal crafting and forge making will begin, along with crop rotation agriculture.
That sums it up. Just usual developments for now. I'll figure out exactly what I want to do with my new northern neighbor later.

From Vanuka
To Neighbors

You guys have it easy. Military force is centralized and government controlled. Here at Vanu-Serat, war is declared after some local chieftain begins a raid, and the greatest cohesive unit we can maintin is an individual. Now ask yourself, did we really declare war on you or were they simply refugees from overpopulation seeking new land? What if they happen to rape your wife and wipe out your farm a long the way... it is their fault for getting in the way!

Also, we never allied with the Cayun. We were slaves of the Iron Hill we staged a rebellion against the Ut. A quite successful one, I might add. The fools at Kanu-Dalak didn't even know where exactly their ships are going, as long as they are not messing up their own trading lanes those Danabmuts don't really care. Yes, we hired them, but your invasion of Kanu-Dalak was as surprising and treachurous for them to experience as was the first Kanukan Pirates' raiding of your merchants must have felt to you.

Now we hear of this ridiculous alliance. You will, for the first time, face the full force of Vanu-Serat and the Nannuk of the Vanukan Peninsula. No longer will you face minor raids, or conservation of troops for policing; for this action can be easily read by everyone. We will fight for honor, glory, and our right to live as ourselves.

(OOC: Sending cultural orders first, with military campaigns set up later.)

From Cayun To Vanuuka,

Renounce war. We will make no war upon you if you make no war upon us and the Ut.

Orders:

Spoiler :
Focus on containing our expanding neighbors. Go to tribes that are victims of their expansionism and tell them the news of our glorious empire, to get them to pledge loyalty to us.

Station about 70% of our military along our border with Hiberia, be wary of a Hiberian attack.

About 10% will focus on expanding west and north. Do not expand with brute force, instead focus on using gifts and diplomacy, along with the military to show our power, to convince neighboring tribes to join us.

The remaining 20% will simply be based in the countryside and in cities, as a garrison and reserve force.
